if we pitch him in situations that are not stressful, we have a small chance at building him back up to past form, but he probly still won't be as good as Paps , but you know, it might be worth a shot, depending on what the want, anything involving Lester Hasnen or Pedroia has got to be a no
We absolutely DON'T give up any prospecs. Ramirez was bad enough to shallow.

Concerning Zito, its all but obvious that Billy Beane will not trade him

-- They are in a pennant race, the title is for the taking in the weak AL West

-- Zito has hired Scott Boras as his new agent, oh yeah he's intent on getting a big payday.

The top 3 suitors for Zito will be Yankees, Mets and Cardinals

Everyone has two chances to get Barry Zito via trade:

1. Slim.

2. None.

I wouldn't be suprised if King George throws a mountain of cash his way in the offseason either.

Just once I’d like to see the A’s shell out some deserved $$ to a player that’s been a mainstay of the team when their contract is up. Watching all of their top talent go the way of free agency, just because they can always do better elsewhere, is a crime.

this is also why they havent won anything significant since canseco was a stud and mcguire didnt have the 3rd arm growing out of his chest

Zito has no grip on reality so trading for him would mean we'd just be renting him for half a season. When you're 28 with with 96 wins and you actually think you're going to get to 300 .. I doubt you're going to be very realistic in contract talks ... add to that Scott Boras.

Oh yeah ... and the fact that Zito would get eaten alive in fenway.

Here it says that according to Buster Olney, the Sox are talking about a large trade involving I believe the Mets and the Athletics where we acquire Zito. Unfourtantly I do not have Insider. Anyone here who does could you please post the part of the article that talks about hte sox and zito?

No mention of Zito but this is the quote from Insider:

Buster Olney's ESPN Insider Blog: "Anybody who has struck rock while using a shovel could relate to the next trade tidbit. Heard from two talent evaluators yesterday that Boston is very active in trying to come up with a large and creative deal, involving more than two teams. Smart thinking, one of them said, if it all works. Crazy stuff you wouldn't normally think of, said another. An executive with an AL team reports that he's heard that a scout was rushed off his area coverage to go scout Boston minor leaguers.

"But here's where the rock-striking part comes into play. I don't know if this is just a pebble of thought on the part of the Red Sox, or if this is a larger trade boulder, like the huge Nomar Garciaparra trade Boston hit on a couple of years ago, with all those moving parts. The Red Sox are looking for pitching, and they've talked about Julio Lugo in the past.

"Red Sox executives are mum; execs from other teams say they are very active.

"Take it for what it's worth." -- 7.27.06, Buster Olney, ESPN Insider Blog

I think this isnt just a three team deal, but possibly a four or even five team deal. If this really does down I think we're going to see some major moves. Maybe saying goodbye to Coco, Trot, Lowell. And I know I'll get s*** for this, but maybe even Manny.

Manny for who? David ortiz?

FWIW, there’s a thread on ESPN Boards where a poster adds more insight to Olney’s speculation:

Buster Olney was just on WFAN in NY, and they were all asking him about Barry Zito and Dontrelle Willis and Abreu and Lee and Soriano and all those regular names this trade deadline. Finally, at the end, they asked him, who is the one player that is most likely to get dealt by monday and to whom?

His answer:Miguel Cabrera to the Red Sox.

So i guess this was part of the creative 3-team deal that they are supposedly working on. Personally, as a sox fan, i would love to see that happen, as our #5 hitter has thus far produced a whopping 7 home runs.

An idea:

BOS gets: Miguel Cabrera

SD gets: Mike Lowell, David Murphy

FLA gets: Caesar Carillo and another prospect

yes and the marlins will trade cabrera and get nothing in return. these trade proposals all are foolish

Posted
We would trade Mike Lowell and Trot Nixon and some prospects in a package where we would get Cabrera and a pitcher?

EDIT: Meant to quote RoyNHSox.

It’s all so fuzzy I can’t figure out what Olney means exactly, and more who the 3rd team involved is. The Yahoo Sports article thinks it might be the Mets…

It might take trading someone like Manny to the 3rd team in order to get them to part with any prospects appealing enough for the Marlins to part with MC. Maybe it would take something like Nixon, Lowell, and Coco to another team, along with a propsect or 2 from the Sox. The $ involved would probably be eaten mostly by the Sox.

Just to put some perspective to all of this, wasn’t it about a week ago that Olney threw out the Lowell to SD idea in his blog, only to have it refuted to the point where Sox management actually met with Lowell to assure him it was all false?

There are very few players whom I would be willing to part with our top minor league talent for. Miguel Cabrera is one of them. ANYTHING we could do to get him would be fine with me.

That said, this is purely speculation. However, when other teams say the Red Sox are being active, I believe them.

The sox finally have their s*** together it seems, as all the leaks are coming from other sources, not someone close to the sox front office. Thank you larrry luchino for hushing up!
