ya its official, WHY DO WE NEED ANOTHER YOUNG GOALIE PROSPECT??? Could have gotten more for Raycroft.

Is Mike Oconell still working behind the scene?

Raycroft's trade value has dipped big time but they should at least squeezed a pick or 2 of the Leafs as well.

well good that they took a d-man, solid pick, a little off the board but i like it.

From NHL Central Scouting - See the ice very well...finds his forwards with long first passes...good overall skill level...can carry the puck out of danger...a mature, solid player with good overall attitude...a good team player who works hard.

From ISS: Persson is a good skater with good offensive instincts. Has a very heavy, low point shot that he generally keeps on net, causing lots of rebounds and making him a valuable PP triggerman. He kept things simple and controlled the play but still lacked some of that fire that we like to see. He still has to become more physical but the ability is there and as such, a high pick but a slow road for this talented Swede.

he's tall, and will bulk up

exactly, well atleast this gives us good depth with having the 2 Finish goalies who are goad friends. From what ive been hearing, Rask is a better prospect than Toivenen.

Okay, I have a confession to make.

I love hockey. I was made a Red Wings fan by my aunt. I check the scores of every game in the NHL just like I do MLB, and I know whats going on day to day.

However...I have absolutely no idea how the rules work.

Demitra for 17th pick and Patrick Osullivan

Demitra is just a ploy for the Wild to convince Gaborik to stay. They paid I hefty price to get an aging star to just essencially keep their team's best player in Minnesota. It may work out, but Minnesota is years away from competing for a playoff spot and Demitra only has a few years left. Demitra and Gaborik are deadly together provided that Pavol stays healthy, but the rest of the team has more holes than Swiss cheese (AKA Martin Gerber). O'Sullivan will be a surprise impact player for LA in the coming years if not immediately. Overall Minnesota got burned.

Toronto dealing Tukka Rask for Andy Raycroft is all about praying he'll return to Calder form. With the Leafs defense in front of him that is not likely, but he is a step up from J.S. Aubin, a very small step up. With the impending buyout of Eddie the Pigeon the Leafs couldn't see going into the season with Aubin and Tellqvist splitting time, adding Raycroft at least most likely clarifies who is #1. Tukka Rask is a fabulous Finnish goaltender who Boston will love in the years to come, they will have the embarrassment of riches in goal that the Sabres have had for several years. Tim Thomas was the surprise of the year in goal last season for the Bruins, somehow he had Ottawa's number all season, and Hannu Toivonen is another strong Finn in the nets. The salary and headache dump of Raycroft alone makes this a Bruins steal, getting Tukka Rask out of it is causing Leafs fans to call for John Ferguson Jr's head once again. And I don't blame them.

what about thomas?

Thomas will be the back up for the next 2-3 years probably into Rask is ready.

Anyone hear anything else on the proposed Mara for Boynton trade?

What's the scouting report on Sanguenitti?

great pick for the rangers, an offenssive defensemen, maybe teh next sergei gonchar

From NHL Central Scouting - An offensive type of defenceman who moves the puck well and is able to move the puck through traffic...can make hard, accurate outlet passes...has the ability to go end-to-end and will jump to support the rush having the confidence to pinch, and has the mobility to recover quickly...will be more successful when he learns to use his size more.

From ISS - His trademark is his offensive sense and he has mastered the art of getting his shots through in both 5 on 5 situations as well as power play opportunities. Some have questioned his toughness and although he will never be the most physical player, he certainly proved that he would play through pain and compete against the biggest and the toughest in the OHL.

From TSN - Was a 4th round pick in the OHL draft...Fourth in regular season points for the Attack (14-51) in 68 games...Ranked 4th in league scoring for defencemen...Tied for second in OHL for playoff points by a defenceman with 15...Had 2 assists in 2006 CHL prospects game...Strange split - his plus/minus at home was +8; and -14 on the road.
