He keeps the ball on the ground. That's the only postive thing about him. Maybe, the Red Sox defense can shave off 20-30 hits that Cleveland's atrocious defense couldn't stop. He doesn't strike a whole lot of batters out, but he doesn't walk a whole lot either.

I like this move. With only money and a PTBNL the Sox give up next to nothing and possibly get some needed pitching help for the rest of the season .

Johnson hasn't pitched entirely horrible this year. Hes also had pretty good career stats

14 G

77 IP

5.96 ERA

22 BB

32 K

10 HR

2.41 GO/AO ratio

1.69 WHIP

the WHIP is obviously bad, but that could be helped out by the fact that he now will be pitching for the best infield in baseball.

Just cash, no PTBNL.

Theo seems to be doing the same thing Cashman did last year. Picking up other teams’ castoffs of the waivers and maybe you get a 2005 Small or Chacon.

The only downside I can see is that Johnson is out of options, so there won’t be that same flexibility as Snyder has with making changes in the roster.

Has Johnson been immediately placed on the 25 man roster? IMO, they should wait and get an extra arm in the bullpen with the 2 offdays, then when they need a 5 man rotation, call him up.

Yes. Snyder was optioned back to Pawtucket to make room for Johnson.

Red Sox acquired RHP Jason Johnson and cash considerations from the Guardians for a player to be named or cash.

The Red Sox will reportedly take on most of the approx. $2.2 million left on Johnson's deal. There's also a mutual option for 2007, but it's highly unlikely the Red Sox will want any part of that. Johnson was designated for asssignment by the Guardians on Tuesday after going 3-8 with a 5.96 ERA. He had a 3.41 ERA during April, a 9.13 ERA in May and a 6.35 ERA in four starts during June. Making the odds of a rebound even longer are that he's going to a much better ballpark for hitters and that he's always been a first-half pitcher. Entering 2006, he had a career ERA of 4.43 in the first half and 5.48 after the break. The Red Sox don't need a fifth starter until July 1, so Johnson might work out of the pen until then. so we pretty much paid 2.2 million for him

I called that we were either goin to trade for him or pick him up a couple weeks back.

Damn, I'm good.

Great job.

I should really congratulate you, and the other thousands of people who saw this coming when Kyle Snyder was pitching for the Red Sox.

Not really, considering Kyle Snyder only gave up 3 runs in 5 innings whil ebeing economical at the same time.

The Red Sox didn't believe that Snyder could be their fifth starter, no one did. Snyder looked OK, but he wasn't going to be able to sustain that. The Red Sox needed to make a move, Johnson was available.

Why you think you're the only one is beyond me. A little conceited, no?
