good news about Kap. I think he'll give us a RF'der when LHP's are on the mound and he'll give us some speed off the bench. I'm not sure, but his speed might be affected by his injury. Snyder was drafted by the Royals in the 1st round (7th overall). Hasn't really pitched well at all in the Majors (121.3 IP, 58 K's, 31 BB's, 2-9, 76 ER). Hopefully he'll be a cheap pluck of the cheap heap. Good low risk move by Theo.

He may be really bad, but Red Ruffing was 39-93 with the Red Sox (the Royals of their day) and he went on to a HOF career with the Yankees winning almost 300 games over his career.

I don't think we should be using Snyder in the same sentence as Ruffing, yet.
Not making any predictions or comparisons. I haven't seen the guy throw a single pitch, so I'm not going to bury him because of his prior affiliation with KC. I'll wait to see what he can do, but I am not at all hopeful that he can fill the void.

I'm not saying make a huge difference, but who would you try harder for? The Red Sox or Royals. Maybe being on a winning team will have this guy saying, "Well I can give up a few runs and still win. I don't have to be perfect." Or as people would say, he won't get in the of himself.

Rotoworld’s take on Snyder isn’t exactly positive:

Red Sox claimed RHP Kyle Snyder off waivers from the Royals.

How badly are things going for Boston that they want a pitcher the Royals had no use for? Snyder is basically hopeless at this point. Shoulder problems have left him with below average stuff, and it's not like he makes up for it was exceptional command. He's Triple-A roster filler and a waste of a 40-man roster spot.

Rotoworld also reportng Snyder likely to get the start on Monday...

Kyle Snyder will likely start Monday's game against Washington.

Snyder was claimed off waivers by the Red Sox this week. He was dumped by the Royals and it is doubtful he will have any fantasy value even in the deepest AL-only leagues.

well so far the rotation has been better with Lester Beckett Schill and Wawke pitching solid at the very least, lets see how Snyder does over Clement

The only positive thing about pitching Snyder is that it can't be any worse than a Clement start.

I live in Kansas City, if the Royals can't use Snyder....well that is really all I need to say.

I don't think this is the last waiver pickup you'll see start for the Sox over the next 6 weeks.

Like I've said before, the way the market for pitchers is right now I think the Red Sox are looking for a bit of luck on some of these guys they can pick up cheaply. Red Ruffing may be a bad example, but the Yankees last year got 10 wins from Aaron Small for crying out loud. I haven't seen Kyle Snyder pitch either, so I'm not saying that Snyder can duplicate Small's numbers from last year, but at this point the Red Sox are very badly injured and looking for lighting in a bottle.

At 7:25 when the Nationals go up 8-0 in the top of the first inning. I will have already been doing this for the past two hours because this piece of s*** is actually starting a game in a Red Sox uniform.

His alma matter is Riverview High School out of Sarasota, FL (where I attend.)

This guy has sucked ever since he started his pitching career. Sarasota High, (our rivals) sent out one of those permanment bench players to be nice. You know, one of those guys who has a lot of heart. Well, this kid was about 5'2 95 lbs, and he roped a double off Snyder. This game is over before it began. Hopefully, the Yankees lose tonight.

Bruce Chen?

Ryan Rupe? Jeremi Gonzalez? Jon Halama?

or the most random one ever

Steve Ontiveros, started one game in 2000 for the Sox. That was the first MLB game he had pitched in since 1995.

An important fact to keep in mind with Snyder is that he’s got a 10 day window with the Sox. Either they trade him or put him on waivers. So his start tonight is probably the only chance to throw him into a game situation and see how he performs.
