Everyone moans about the pen, but we're in some trouble with our rotation too. Outside of Schilling and Beckett, everyone is hurt. Even Beckett has been hit or miss. I hope lester can consistently eat innings and win games, but that still leaves question marks. I dont think any of our starting pitching prospects are ready (outside of Lester), so where do we turn. Trade? There just arent many options

they need more than one.

If they can get 1, then they would just need one of the guys thats on the team to step up.

4 good relievers is all you really need in the bullpen.

for now id have...

6th--Delcarmen

7th--Riske

7th--someone traded for

8th--Timlin

9th--Paps

and then have Seanez or Tavarez as the long relievers

what about zito or d-willis. both could probably be had for some prospects

i really dont like either of them and both teams would want ALOT in return for those 2 overrated pitchers

all they need is a 5th starter, to give them some innings and keep the Sox in games

It doesn't matter what order your bullpen is in. If your starting pitcher can't get into the 4th inning without walking six batters, it really doesn't matter.

Theo should do to Clement what the D-Backs did to Russ Ortiz, don't give me the whole $$$ talk, Ortiz was owed 22 million for the 3 remaining years on his contract.

The Diamondback have options (Dustin Nippert) the Red Sox, do not.

which is very true and why the Sox need to go out and get another starter.

right now we only have 3 consistent starting pitchers

Beckett

Schill

Wake

Lester (only has 1 start so far, lets see how he does)

TBA

Wells, and Clement. Lester isn't ready. He needs at least another month of AAA ball.

You honestly think Clement should be in the starting rotation?

I could see Wells getting another shot, but Clement should hopefully be on the DL for awhile

He may not be ready but he is going to get on the job training in boston.

Who else? The Red Sox have no other options. Maybe you give Alvarez a start, but what do you do when he has a bad start? Not worth rushing Lester, just because the Red Sox lost two games in a row. You guys make it look like we're 8 1/2 back of the Yankees.

The Red Sox have four decent starters in Wells, Schilling, Wakefield, and Beckett. Tread water until you're able to get your team back together. The Yankees aren't good enough to run away with this division.

I dont think its fair to say Wells is a decent starter, given the fact he has only pitched in 2 games this year and is 43. His knee is in really bad shape and I think we will be extremely lucky to get Wells back to being a decent starter

why are people against zito? i realize we probably would have to give up quite a bit, but zito is only 29 years old, 3.53 era this year

Wells isn't coming off surgery. Just a bruise. He shouldn't show any major complications from that.

i dont think he will be available anyway, with the A's only one game out of first place in the West

Beane will trade him, it's just a matter if he gets what he wants.

where else would we turn other than the trading block, and the only options seem to be zito and willis

Don't expect a big move and don't expect Theo to trade any of the sox top prospects.

This team needs a big bold move to bolster the rotation. After the Schilling. there is nothing but quesrtion marks, .500 pitchers, and dead wood. They need to get someone fast.

problem is the market is thin and the price for mediocre starters is likely high

They have to pay the price or they might as well flush this season down the toilet.

Theo has stated before that when he came back he wasn't going to go all out for one season. Don't expect anything big. I would be shocked if the sox made a huge move.

Gf*** that. Then don't spend $120+ million on a payroll if you are not going to do what it takes to win. You either go all out to win or you build for the future. Anything in between is half -assed losing BS. I don't want to watch a team that i know has no chance of winning the WS just because they can hang with the pack and be competitive. He's wasting our time. Win or rebuild. This team can't win jack s*** the way it is currently constructed-- bad rotation, bad bullpen, no bench. Make up your mind if you can win with this team, Theo. Stop jerking us off.

Thats very true. No need to get nervous at the moment considering its still June. The ideal situation would have been for Jon Lester to come up in August...same time Papelbon did. That way teams don't get a real read on the kid and he has a better chance for success. Currently its not looking good but David Wells is not declared dead just yet. If he can come back that fixes a lot of problems with our rotation. That way Matt Clement can be given a short time to get his head straight and if not...then Lester can take his spot.

As for the bullpen I'm actually happy the Red Sox sent Craig Hansen back to AAA to get more work out of the bullpen. When he comes back up later in the year he would be a big figure in the bullpen. Its frustrating at the moment but we are still doing alright. I think these young kids will get better as the season moves along. The veterans on the other hand (Foulke, Tavarez, Seanez) need to figure something out quick or thats the place I could see the Red Sox making a move by midseason.
