Bryce Cox has signed according to Theo on his Boston.com chat today

So is he heading out to Lowell? How about Clay?

I would say for Cox would be 1 of 3 locations. He could start in the GCL to get pitching again and then either moved to Lowell or Greenville. Clay is already signed and is in Fort Myers with the GCL Red Sox but has not pitched yet. Likely won't pitch too much this summer much like Michael Bowden last summer but will likely participate in the instructional league in the fall.

any info on Laporta being signed at all ?

nothing yet but LaPorta is starting to heat up on the Cape League and I wouldn't be shocked to see an offer close to the end of the summer.

Where is Bard? I really want them to sign Bard.

Bard will sign....He is definitely not going back to school. I have heard he told teammates and coaches he was not going back. Now its just about what money it will take. He wants a hansen type deal but the red sox will not give him that since he is not as polished and advanced as hansen was.

I'll have to check out Giardina at UCF next year. Any word on Anderson signing yet? I've heard speculation that he was going to sign -- due to him working out with the team in Wells' simulated start. There's also a guy at NYYFans that claims to have inside info about him being a sure bet to sign.

I think it speaks alot that the Red Sox have significant interest in signing him if they brought him in to take cuts during wells simulated game. still the price tag likely to be 1 million to get him away from Cal.

Today Ryan Kalish officially became a member of the Red Sox. He signed a contract. He'll play in three or four days and he will be at the instructional league in FLA. beginning Sept. 18

When is Daniel Bard going to sign?

Don't know when he will sign but he is not going back to North Carolina. He has already told coaches that. Plus I don't think the Red Sox wanted him to pitch much this summer anyways and basically shut it down until instructional league.

Out of the pitchers the Red Sox drafted the last couple seasons....do any of them have that "one" nasty pitch. Brandon Webb developed his sinker into something nasty and built around that pitch. Johan Santana refined his changeup and became dominant. Mariano Rivera found his career when he got a cutter. Jonathan Papelbon developed a practically unhittable splitter. Does Bowden, Buchholz, Bryce Cox, Masterson, Kris Johnson, or Daniel Bard have that??

I have a more important question. Do we have any major league pitchers for the 3rd, 4th and 5th slots in the rotation? I am too tired to do the research, but what is the combined W-L record of our 3rd, 4th and 5th pitchers? Wakefield was 7-8, and I don't think it gets much better from there.

Cox and Masterson are both relievers though I would like to see if they can stretch out Masterson to start. Cox has a filthy slider that was on display at the CWS. Masterson throws a heavy sinker to get hitters out. Bowden is obviously the best of the bunch as he has 4 major league pitches. His 12/6 curve is very good and his circle change is becoming a plus pitch. The scouting report has buchholz throwing 5 different pitches but I have no reports on what he has been throwing in Greenville this year. His scouting report has him at a 2 and 4 seam fastball, slider, circle change and a curveball. Bard is a 2 pitch pitcher in my mind and its good he hasn't pitched this summer. His mechanics need to be broken down once he signs and goes to instructional league because he has shown to be too reliant on his fastball. He has a slider which at times can be good but his changeup is average at best. He has an intriguing arm and can throw hard and the UNC didn't do that great of a coaching job with him because his talent is very good and he showed average results. Johnson is coming off TJS but could be a solid pitcher. Don't know that much about him but he was very good before TJS throwing in the mid 90's at Wichita State.
