He's a decent fill-in backup outfielder until Kapler comes back, which by the way should be sometime late June.

He is what he is and thats the 25th man and he has some use at times as he can play infield and outfield along with steal a base.

With Kapler back from the DL I’m wondering what kind of role Harris will have. A utility outfielder might be useful until we know for sure that Kapler is fully recovered, but I see him as nothing but a waste of a roster spot now. Without options it’s difficult to move him other than hoping he’ll clear waivers and accept a minor league assignment.

I second that. Willie is the most obvious choice to be sent back down to Pawtucket or DFA'd. With Gabe Kapler back, his role in Boston is basically just hovering over obsolete.

 

Kapler is a much better hitter, and defender with the glove and his arm throwing power. Harris might have an uptick of speed, but eh Id rather have Gabe coming out to be the pinch runner for now on.

The more I think about this I think you are correct. Over the next 10 days I think the Sox could get away without JVB, without stretching the pen too thin. Still only 11 pitchers…

 

The points about Harris' overall utility at many positions might make him a keeper, for now. However he and JT Snow are both vying for the "biggest waste of a roster spot".

whats all the negativity towards Harris?? He wasnt brought in to hit, he's on the roster as a 5th OF, pinch runner and a possible backup IF. He's done a good job doing all of these and we could really use him as a pinch runner. Kapler isnt a good enough pinch runner as hes been slowed down by injuries.

 

IMO, Snow is absolutely th "biggest waste of a roster space" as he does nothing but get an AB every once in the while, and usually K or ground out weakily. Harris has played great defense and is probably the fastest guy on the team. (he and Coco)

Completely agree, which is why I thought Jsinger was wrong about Harris being gone, he at least has some value...Snows body language while pinch hitting was like he didnt care, or was pissed off about the situation...he clearly wasnt happy.
