id go with Lester, especially if Wells is going to be out for a while, but it looks like it will be either Ginter or Alvarez. Theres also the slim chance that Wells isnt hurt that bad and may not have to skip his start. With an off day on Thursday, Schilling could possibly pitch on short rest. That seems unlikely to. The only other guy i could see possibly getting a shot is David Pauley, but highly unlikely.

Alvarez, like Lenny Dinardo would get killed by the Jays. This series is hugly important, we cant just send some one out there who we know is going to get bombed. I say Jon Lester

Craig Hansen - jk but he actually would be a better option than Ginter or Alvarez. The Jays will absolutely kill a soft tossing lefty like Alvarez and I'm a huge Alvarez fan.

ya it is wednesday, not tuesday. My only problem with Alvarez is that he would give up a lot of HR's against a good hitting team like the Jays at their park. I dont know much about Ginter other than he hasn't been a successful MLB pitcher in his career.

Right now the Red Sox official site has Wells as the starter for that game going up against Ted Lilly.

As far as Lester goes, he's 3-4 with a 3.13 ERA for the Paw Sox through 37.1 IP.

ya for wednesday's game it says

Wells attempts to come back from a scary injury in his last start. The 43-year-old veteran left-hander took a line drive off his right knee, the same knee that kept him out of action since April 12. Before the liner off the bat of Travis Lee in the fifth, Wells was in command, allowing just one run, coming on a Carl Crawford solo shot to right. Wells faced Toronto in his first and only other start of the season, allowing 10 hits and seven runs over four innings.

rotoworld.com is saying David Pauley will come up for Boston to pitch in place of David Wells.

....perhaps they are not as worried about him failing for the Red Sox as opposed to Jon Lester or Craig Hansen. At 22 years old he is having a great season in Portland but thats quite a jump for him.

id almost consider having Van Buren, Foulke, Delcarmen and Papelbon pitch the whole game. Get a couple innings out of each and see what happens.

I feel bad for Pauley that he has to face the Jays who have been hitting real well in the first 2 games.

what are pauley's numbers this yr

2006--- 2-3 record (10 starts), 2.39 ERA

In 60.1 innings he has given up 54 hits (6 Hrs) while striking out 47 & walking 17
