If that was to happen, he could always Ruben Sierra or Frank Thomas it, move to DH/Spot Fielder, I'm sure Bernie and Giambi will have well passed on their playing days by then

Bernie will prob retire after this year or next year. Either way he wont be around when Jeter is 37ish. Giambi only has 3 years left on his deal counting this year so the same goes for him.

If Jeter gets 150 a year till hes 38, he'll be like 75 short, but(and not that its relavant at all), I read somewhere once that Posada started out as a 2B, and that once he can't handle catching anymore(knees), he'd move to backup 2B for the Yankees, anyone else hear about that? I only say it becuase your talking about moving

Thats the first I have heard that. I doubt Posada has the range for 2B anymore(if he ever had it). If Posada is going to move anywhere it will prob be 1st base. Then again we have seen how that works (see Mike Piazza).

Based on his career thus far, it would seem that 150 hits per year for 6 or 7 years should not be a problem. Unfortunately, even if he remains healthy, performances often fall off dramatically in the mid-30's. 3,500 hits would be very tough, but not impossible. It would take about 9 or 10 more years. By age 40, Jeter would obviously not be an economically viable player at anything close to his current salary. Jeter, unlike Bernie, may not want to play for small $. He also might have too much ego not to be "the man." Bernie obviously has very little ego. I don't see Jeter accepting a diminished role. Forget about him moving to 3rd and swapping SS with ARod. He'd never stand for that.

That would be the cruelest blow of all. Nothing sadder than an aging matinee idol.

idk, Bernie is(kinda) holding the fort even now, at 37, hes on track for maybe 130-150(?) Hits, and his lifetime average is 185, so with Jeters being 206, even a quarter of a fall off would still on register for a nessisary, say, 6,7 more years. Health Pending

Hmm good point, I'm not saying it's outside the limits of possiblity, I'm just saying as of right now I think it's doubtful.

There are 239 players with 2,000 hits. It's not an exclusive club.

that isnt the point yeszir, he has a ton of games left and he is already at 2K. He'll be mid 3K's by the time he's done. Call him meaninless then, but he probably wont hear you because he'll have those 4+ rings in his ears....

Posada did start out as a second baseman and transferred in the minors. However, when he used to play winter ball (even after he had come up to the bigs) he played first base. So his secondary position is furst, and i'm sure he could still play some second in case of an emergency. But if he were to move anywhere it would be first.

He still can sure, but I doubt he'll get 1000 more hits in his career. Even if he plays like 10 more years, he'd just barely miss because you have to think he only have a limited number of truly productive years left in him.

are you kidding me? if he plays 10 more years he will be way past 3000 , more like 3500 like empirestrikesback said , his average for hits per season is 192 , f*** if he keeps his current pace up he will be at 3000 in 5 years , if he plays 10 more season he only needs 100 a season , and you know as well as me he is gonna have a few more 200 hit season ahead of him too , now if he can average 150 hits for the next 10 years he would be at 3500 like i said and he has a good shot reaching that , its just the matter of staying healthy at this point, i hate the yankee's as much as anyone does on this board but you have to admit at this point he is gonna reach it farely easily

also he has over 1900 hits in his last 10 years ,so i think 1000 in the next 10 years is a piece of cake , actually make it 900 for the next 10 years ,cause he will be over 2100 by the time the year is over as he is on pace to hit 220 hits this season. a few sports writter have him breaking pete rose's record , i wouldnt go that far but id say when his career is over he will be in the top ten as far as hits

sounds minor, he said he could have played but joe pulled him. He said he is starting tomorrow...

what gives?

no in-depth analysis of the injury?

no diagnosis and detailed prognosis?

you're letting some folks down, "Doc"

true not likely he'll reach that level, not to take away from Jeter. oh, by the way....Rose was better than Jetes will ever be.

Ron Neyer on ESPNNEWS said Jeter could get to 3700 hits.

Wow. Did anyone tell Jeter that Ron said he could get 3700 hits? This kind of journalism is so wonderful.
