Ok, I'm going to try again. Damn Yankees. Wake's had a pretty good track record of success against the Yanks, so I'm feeling good about this game. The Sox can also tee off against Chacon. And Papi, well, 'nuff said. Go Sox!

Chacon tries to remain stellar against Red Sox

Boston (20-13) at NY Yankees (19-12) 7:05 pm EDT

BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- After a shaky beginning, Shawn Chacon has re-emerged as an important figure in the New York Yankees' rotation.

Chacon will make his biggest start of the season when the Yankees look to claim the rubber game of a three-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Thursday.

Acquired from the Colorado Rockies on July 28, Chacon (4-1, 3.94 ERA) went 7-3 in 14 appearances down the stretch last season as New York edged Boston to capture its eighth straight American League East Division title.

After a rough start where he was taken out of rotation in early April, Chacon came back on April 22 and has yielded just one run in each of his last three outings. The latest occurred in a 6-1 win at the Texas Rangers on Saturday, when the righthander yielded five hits and struck out four without a walk in 6 1/3 innings.

Chacon has made one previous start against the Red Sox, giving up five runs in three innings in a 10-5 loss last September 10.

He will be opposed by Tim Wakefield (2-4, 3.97), who will be making his 41st career appearances against the Bronx Bombers.

The veteran knuckleballer has already face New York once this season, allowing three runs and four hits in seven innings but did not figure in the decision of 7-3 win on May 1.

The Yankees pulled even in the series on Wednesday as a two-run homer by Jason Giambi in the third inning helped lead to a 7-3 win. It was the second homer in as many games for Giambi, who appears to be back to his form in 2002 when he hit .314 with 41 home runs and 122 RBI in 155 games, his first campaign with New York.

Alex Rodriguez added a homer in the fifth. The All-Star third baseman drew the ire of owner George Steinbrenner after committing two costly errors and going hitless in three at-bats in Tuesday's 14-3 loss.

should be a good game. This will be a battle of the bullpens, one of those fun 6-5, 7-6 type games....

What?? Wake is pitching tonight. He has the best chance to go deep into a game, especially if he's on tonight!

Posted
Start the game early if need be, I just don't want another rained out game.

I know that this would be tough to do logisticaly---but it certainly makes the most sense!

I found this funny in last night's thread

Rivernator: Go ahead and eventual game winning hit last night, cannot dispute that.

Key word is eventual. Papi's heroics come when the game is really on the line, he is teh definition of clutch. He's still a clown to me, the "Peyton Manning" of baseball is what he reminds me of. Arod piles up the stats in the regular season, then rests his bat on his shoulder in the curcial moments of the playoffs.

Pumped about the Game! The sox need to work the count and not let chacon slip out of trouble like he normally does. Hopefully wakefield will be on his game tonight Go SOX!

Please. He doesn't 'rest his bat on his shoulder' during the playoffs (you can't do that and have a .300+ AVG, like he does.) His downfall is that he tries too hard.

A-Rod's a clown? Please. This guy is one of the greatest to play in a long time (if not in all of baseball's history.) He's a better all around player than Ortiz likely ever will be (I don't think anyone would deny this, unless you're drowing in the kool aid) and his ticket to the HOF was punched awhile ago. Hardly laughable (unless he's on your team.)

Did you just call A-Rod the greatest player in baseball history??....someone is high tonight

No.

You read way too much into how I used "clown". Clown as in not referring to his career stats, it's that persona he gives off to not just sox fans.

His playoff stats are skewed. Since Game 4 against the Sox to game 5 against the Angels, his avg is below .200. Heck he didnt even hav an RBI in last year's playoffs, I still have flashbacks of him just grounding into a double play in the 9th inning of game 5 as they were trying to make a comeback.

Hardly laughable (unless he's on your team.)

And what does this pertain to?

Posted
I think A-rod is very very good and when all is said and done, he might shake out to be one of the top 10 hitters of all time. Right now though, we don't know. If things stay as they are now though, when they are both retired, I can say for sure that A-rod will sit in second place for this era to a guy named Albert.

Nice comparison considering papi is a DH:rolleyes: I don't think you can deny that if you ask a manager in the bigs who he would rather have on his team---they would take papi 9 out of 10 times!

Easy there. Let's not get carried away.

Whatever you say.:dunno:

But, yeah, I'm sure if you asked 10 managers if they'd rather have a runner up MVP or a 2 time MVP, 9 would go with the former. Sure.

Perhaps his number was somewhat inaccurate. $19 million cheaper and he actually shows up for the playoffs... I think you'd be lucky to find one manager that'd take A-Rod over Papi.

Oh yeah, a manager would definitely take a full time DH over someone who can play two of the most difficult positions on the field (3B, SS) with gold glove quality and can hit. Yup, definitely.

$19 million cheaper. You can get Manny with him for that amount of money.
