Jermaine Van Buren pitches 3 innings in a game giving up one run (optioned to Pawtucket). Yesturday Manny Delcarmen pitches a scoreless 9th inning and looked sharp (optioned to Pawtucket). I don't know who is coming up but you gotta love the depth.

 

I was just reading Mike Holtz could be the one called up as a lefty specialist. Not a bad idea against Giambi and Matsui. He has struck out 24 in 16 innings thus far at AAA. I liked what I saw from the guy in spring training.

Red Sox optioned RHP Manny Delcarmen to Triple-A Pawtucket.

David Riske isn't quite ready to return, so maybe the Red Sox have decided they want lefty specialist Mike Holtz on the roster for the series against the Yankees. Riske could then take Holtz's spot this weekend.

 

Holtz would be a good call up, IF the yankee LH hitters cannot hit lefties. Matsui is struggling vs lefties thus far this yr, but he did hit .350 against them last yr. Damon and Cano are holding their own against lefties so far. The onlylefty who has historically struggled against lefties is Giambi who hits about 50-80 points lower vs lefties depending on the season....

EDIT: Speculations are that it could be Jermaine Van Buren, or lefty specialist Mike Holtz.

Michael Silverman is reporting it is Holtz up to Boston.
