Jay Payton was amazing. He was just playing behind Johnny, Manny, and Trot. And he was supposably an assclown in the clubhouse.

I was glad to see Payton gone!

I was one of Bronson's biggest fans, in fact I argued (maybe here maybe somewhere else) that he'd likely have just as good a season (if not better) than David Wells in 2006. He did seem to struggle in spring training. When the trade went down, I was saying the same thing as Boomer: "Wrong guy."

Sticking with the not arguing about the trade theme, I hope Wily Mo becomes the next Ortiz, and Bronson wins 20! (not that it's going to help the Reds much anyway).

Good luck Bronson, you will be missed.

Former Sox fan favorite, Bronson Arroyo finally won his 10th game after a long drought. He's right on target to be what he is a steady but unspectacular starter that takes the ball every 5 days and gives his team between 10 and 15 wins each year.

Bronson Arroyos ERA has been about 5.27 over the last 2 months of the season.....which translates to about 7.00 in the AL.

Boston has not played "great" over the last 2 months.

What does this mean? It means Bronson Arroyo would have contributed NOTHING better than what the sox have gotten over the last two months.

I like the Wily Mo trade, but to be fair and accurate, we only have 2 pitchers with 10 wins, and unless Wakefield comes back and wins a couple of games, no one else has a chance to win 10.

In the interest of said "fairness":

Willie Harris, or someone of his ilk, is the CF for 40 or so games. Dustan Mohr is the RF for Trot's annual 30+ days on the DL. Think Bronson gets those 10 wins without run support in the AL East?

The Red Sox are a much better team than the Reds and he had won 10 or more games for the Red Sox in the past two seasons. There is no reason to believe that he would n't have done so again. That being said, I would still have done the Wily Mo trade.

I love the trade too, but whos to say he would have 10 wins in the AL? He struggled to get that 10th win. Who knows.......he may have been a complete disappointment, and i dont think that is completely out of question.

What we do know is that WMP is a monster and getting better every day.

The upside at this point is very clear.

He did have a track record of two years as a full time starter in the AL and he got better in his second year. His stuff is the same as it was then. With the improved infield defense, there's no reason to believe that he would not put up 10-15 wins for the 2006 club.

Well, everyone uses this so often, so I will too:

If Arroyo is this bad in the NL, just IMAGINE how bloated his ERA would be in th AL East. Upwards of 19?

What is your definition of bad?

His stats in the NL:

ERA @3.45

2nd in innings pitched

12th in Wins in the NL

8th in Strikeouts

Not sure how he can be labelled as "bad". He is what he is...a 12-15 game winner who'll eat innings and help save the bullpen, he'll compete hard, for near bargain $$.

Would any sane Red Sox fan be crying to get him out of the Sox rotation if he was a #4 starter for them right now?

Nope. I'm sure everyone would want him here.

I'm not sure everyone would like to have him pitching with 70+ games of Willie Harris, Dustan Mohr, and Gabe Kapler patrolling the OF.

You're ignoring the fact that hes sucked over his last 8-10 starts, i don't have time to look up the exact numbers now but hes doing significantly worse lately. He did worse in the AL as teams saw him more and that trend seems to be continuing. I'd be surprised if his ERA is under 4 next year in the NL, and it will probably be closer to 4.5.

Edit:

ERA in July: 5.45

ERA in Aug: 4.91

over a stretch of 8 starts total.

I may be ignoring that, but I am NOT ignoring the fact that some of the guys the Sox have tried to get by with in the rotation are significantly worse than Arroyo.

I'm not touting him to be Cy young. I am lloking at him realistically and liek I've said he is what he is and I'd be much more optimistic about the stretch run with Arroyo manning the end of the rotation than some of the assclowns I'm seeing there.

arroyo is just as bad as the assclowns we have been having and he is pitching in the national league
