You forgot Bernie.

oops

Like I said, it's more than likely this is just a case of the Yankees being overcautious to avoid a serious injury. Pavano wants to get out there and pitch.

Yeah, I agree. If he was hurt really bad he wouldnt have pitched the other day.

Scott Proctor has gone home to be with his wife and their seriously ill infant daughter, GM Brian Cashman said.

Proctor will stay with his family as long as necessary, and no decision has been made on whether to replace him temporarily on the roster. If he needs to be placed on the DL or the bereavement list, Ramiro Mendoza could be a candidate to take his place.

When I read that the other day I felt terrible for him and his family. My prayers are with them.

So he likely won't make the opening day roster. I think it would be a bad idea to replace him with, as much as I love him, Ramiro Mendoza. Since he is a non-roster invitee we would have to DFA somebody to make room on the roster, and then when the injured guys are healthy and are ready to be activated we would have to DFA Ramiro, and take the risk of losing him. Now i'm sure that he would agree to go to AAA if he isnt claimed off of waivers, but there is a good chance that he IS claimed. Maybe Matt Smith or DeSalvo would be a better option.

The Yankees just pulled off a suicide squeeze; not something you see very often with this club.

yea. This spring we've seen a lot of small ball and manufacturing runs. Great to see. Thats how we played during the championship run, and hopefully playing that way this year will translate to number 27 :D

But this was an exciting game, despite ending in a 3-3 tie. So we finish the spring 14-15-1 (or maybe its 15-16-1, not positive lol)

On to Oakland!!

I hope A-Rod, Jeter, Moose, and Chacon have huge years, the rest of them can rot in hell.

You're a Red Sox fan, right?

That is the best thing a Red Sox fan has EVER said. :D

You rule in my book.

Damon can have a huge year too. He's the man and a lot of Sox fans are just jealous that the Yankees now have a better CF.

The Championship teams were built on pitching and defense. It made sense for those teams to play small ball. This Yankee team is an offensive juggernaut with very little pitching. The Yankees are going to win games like the 2005 Sox by bludgeoning their opponents. They will not be winning 2-1 or 3-2. They are going to rely on big innings. For a team constructed like the Yanks to play small ball would not make sense. It would be like bringing a knife to a gunfight.

OK, so you're calling me a liar, and saying that all of the "small ball" played by the Yankees this spring is a fantasy? I mean seriously, your post doesnt make sense, I wasnt predicting something, I was analyzing something that has already begun to happen.

Now obviously they wont be a "small ball" team, its just that they'll play small ball more often than they have in recent years.

I'm not calling you a liar. I am just commenting that the way Torre plays ST games is different from the way he will manage in the regular season. He might play small ball during ST to teach fundamentals to some kids, but those kids will not be in the lineup when the season starts. It's my opinion that playing small ball with this team would be a very bad mistake. I hope you are right and he hits and runs, bunts, squeezes etc, because his pitching staff is going to need more than a run or two.

Pray tell, who will be laying down these squeeze bunts? Giambi? Sheffield? ARod? Matsui? Posada? Jeter with Sheffield and Arod up after him? Damon is not much for bunting. Cano has not shown much of a proficiency at bunting. Who will be asked to play small ball? I think Torre will play very, very little small ball. It won't help this team and no one in the lineup (with the possible exception of PD) does it well.

Jeter is a good bunter and has had no problem bunting in the past despite big bats behind him. A-Rod can bunt, but that would be a ridiculous move to have him bunt. But bench players, such as Crosby and Phillips, when in the lineup can bunt, and sacrifice and whatnot. What I was saying is that this team wont rely solely on the big Home Run like last year, we're going to mix it up a little bit this year. This team will be better at moving runners over, driving guys in, sac flying, sac bunting, etc.

I don't see that happening, and this team like last year's team is going to need to rely on the big inning. They will play for the big bombs.

OK.

You'll see.

per rotoworld

Yankees manager Joe Torre said he'd open the season with Gary Sheffield hitting third followed by Alex Rodriguez, Jason Giambi and Hideki Matsui. Torre experimented with combinations throughout the spring and figures to keep trying new things during the regular season. This is what he plans to use on Opening Day, though. Matsui would have less value if there were any certainty that he'd hit sixth on a permanent basis.

Not related to Spring Training, but still an 'important' pre-season topic...

2 for 4 isn't bad...

Yeah, it was good to see the old guys from last year before the season started.

Road Trip wont be the same without them :(

I agree, I dont understand it myself. So basically 1 thru 6 would be: L, R, R, R, L, L

Right. I mean, I can understand last night against Zito, I just hope thats not what's done every night.

That girl Maria, IMO looks like a whore. I think the other girl came off as kind of snobby. I like KJ, however I couldnt help but laugh when he walked up with his jersey tucked in, and that guy Jose seems cool.

However that was just first impressions. Plenty of time for me to change my opinions.

Is that supposed to be a criticism?

It's not supposed to be anything. I watched the show, and seeing her on it, she looked like a whore IMO. IDK what you want me to say. I dont know how to explain my statement any better than that.

I like Maria; she's a die-hard fan and that's what the show needs. From what I've seen so far, YES made a mistake with Tiffany (or whatever her name is.) She's told she's going to 162 games and she can't show a bit of excitement?

Fine because there is nothing wrong with looking like a whore.
