Mt, I think you are right on that. I would hope you were wrong, though, and we could see this team mesh a lot sooner than that, but as be both know the Red Sox never do anything the easy way, do they?

I still haven't decided if I hate Damon, hate Damon but respect him, or still like Damon. My mom got me this sort of Damon plaque thing for my birthday (she bought it before he signed) and when I opened it I was like...errrr.....

I really don't have a problem with Damon. I still really like him. I know he plays for the enemy and blah blah blah, and some of the s*** he says pisses me off...but some of the s*** my girlfriend says pisses me off too, and I gotta keep liking her haha Fact of the matter is, Damon went where the money was good and where the team showed the greatest desire to sign him. And I don't think you can fault a guy for that. I'm not big on swearing, but the Boston front office f***ed this up. Not Damon. I would have let him sign with NY if the Yankees gave him the 7 year deal that Boras was originally looking for, but it came down to a few million difference, and the Sox let the wheels fall off. I still like Damon, and hope he puts up a solid .330, 20, and 95 for a sub .500 Yankees squad. Haha, Wishful Thinking.

I don't even know if the money was that off? I mean i know what JD says now, ect... but even reports from players that i have read say that he says that--but really it boiled down to the fact that boston didn't want to sign him for whatever reason.

Every report that i read stated that the sox only put that one offer on the table (4/40) and that when the yankers make their play they only gave him a 4 hour window to accept the deal. Boras tried to call the sox FO, and couldn't get through to anyone. Then JD tried several ways to get a hold of the sox FO and couldn't get anyone to talk to him---in fact the sox FO called Boras, but it was about a different client. So here' JD: the yankers offer him a lot of cash, he wants to stay in boston, but the sox FO won't even return his phone calls (not to mention the fact that half the team he played with last year is now gone, so he thinks they don't want him either)--------so he does what anyone would do and accepts the deal from the yankers.

If the sox had offered him 4/44 (which is what Theo was set to do during the winter meetings, before his departure) i think he would have stayed! It's over now though, and he is the enemy--------thanks for the memories JD, enjoy your time in the toilet!

MTB, I have no beef with any of my Red Sox colleagues here who want to still like Johnny Damon; it is their right to do so if they wish. I also don't want to hear any s*** from those who like him directed at me who thinks of him as a lowdown scurrilous lieing bastard. He did say he would never play for the Yankees, loved the Boston fans, loved the town. He could have given us a home town discount and if he would have been patient for a few more days it could have gotten done. I will attend games at Angels Stadium this year and boo the living hell out of him and wish him a rotten four years with the Yankees. I guess I'm one of the old fashioned fools who still thinks a man's word ought to count for something. Over and out.

I completely understand your point; everyone has a right to their opionion! In a lot of ways i feel the same way as you do. However I just think that if the sox FO would have done their job correctly, he would still be here and not in the toilet.

He said he would give a hometown discount: even in a recent interview he said that $46mil would have gotten him to stay. (i think if the sox had gone with their max offer earlier of 4/44 then he would still be here, but that's my opinion) He couldn't wait a few more days though as the yanks had given him a 4 hour window before they withdrew their offer.

From his point of view: the team you want to play for (and have played for) won't return your phone calls (they think you are bluffing--but that comes out later), they are cutting a lot of other guys from the previous year's team, and you don't know if they even want you back. A new team gives you a couple hours to decide if you want to play for them at a rediculous amount of cash. He took the only option he thought he had out there! I hate the fact that he's in the toilet, and he is now the enemy-----a lot of people will boo him, but i won't becuase i still believe, given what i have read, that he really wanted to come back. If i boo anyone it's going to be Lucky, but that's just me!

I believe it was the Yankees who were bluffing. They were desperate for a CF because they knew that Bernie Williams was deteriorating by the day and Crosby was a journeyman at best and a flop at worst. No, no one is going to convince me that Damon didn't really want to leave. His wife is a social climber and a real bitch from everything I've heard from people who know something about her, and they have repeatedly said she wanted to be in New York where she could mix with the big mucky mucks. I would love to see that marriage hit the rocks just like Damon's career will in one or two years.

Please, Damon's wife will beg for him to stay with her 24/7 because she knows the type of person he really is. When she catches him partying late at night and having sex with 41298571847 women, she'll realize that she made a dumbass move. Besides, his current wife is one of the women that he was cheating on his ex-wife with...WHILE HIS EX-WIFE WAS PREGNANT.

Anyway, yeah, I do believe Damon wanted to come back, and I don't blame him for taking the money that he did receive. But because he's a Yankee now (also mixed in with the fact that he said he'd never play for them), I have to boo him. This isn't like Roger Clemens, I never really thought booing him was right anyway...Roger didn't go straight from Boston to New York, and the management here wasn't good to him.

Well, I know that Jeter will have fun cutting off Damon's throws from deep CF at Yankee Stadium off of 6 hops.

True, the toilet has a huge centerfield------i guess the glass is half-full!:D

Schill and MTB, glad to know I'm not along in all this. Didn't know Damjudas was playing around while his then wife was expecting---another reason to despise that dirty bum. Thirty-five years+ with my Linda and such a thought never even entered my sometimes alleged mind. Anyway, I think things will be looking up for us this season with a better defense, deeper and better pitching, and still a pretty solid attack. What's your take guys?

Trouble deciding if you hate Damon? It's a no brainer for me.

I hate all Yankees players. Damon plays for the Yankees. I hate Damon. Simple.

Agreed. The day you dawn the pinstripes is the day I begin hating you.

"Asked about whether he felt he would be booed, "I'm going to hear from some fans and there are other fans who are very educated who have an idea of how things went down and how the Red Sox flat out disrespected me," Damon said. "I'm going to go out and do my thing so I'm not going to worry too much about that. All I can say it I gave it my all for four years. If it wasn't good enough I can't concern myself with that."

I hate damon for all the reasons you guys have talked about and now this. He should shut the f*** up and just play. These overpaid pricks, nowadays $40 million is disrespectful? What a terd. I now know why people in Oakland and Kansas City hated the guy, he is phony, big mouthed selfish prick..BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I saw this in the globe:

Johnny Damon T-shirt seen in Florida: ''Looks like Jesus, acts like Judas, throws like Mary."

Damn...that's funny s***. I was waiting for some original Sox fan to just tag on Damon somehow to the "Jeter Sucks, ARod Swallows" thing...which I think is utterly classless and not funny at all. It's good to see someone put some thought into this one :)

I want one, and I actually still like Damon haha!

Looking and reading an article on ESPN, i see that Boston only has 10 players left from the 2004 WS champs. ONLY 10 Does that seem like a good move to you??? Is picking up all these players, and dropping ours, a good move??

When i read a lot of your guys post, you are always talking about team chemistry, and how manny isn't really gonna have that much if he's gone, but look, only 10 of the players know each other, so with that said, is this a championship team, or is this like a Miami Heat team, and you just get a bunch of talent, and no team chemistry??

I believe it's been said already, but the team was aging. They were starting to show their age, and in a year or two they'd be washed out.

Gordon Edes in his mailbag, believes that Clement will get traded. For what I dont know. But I will be relieved, because it would give Paps the spot he deserves.

Hey, Larry, thanks for the good word, but I hope you were reading Chris Snow, myself, Nick Cafardo and our columnists on Boston.com over the winter -- we try to keep people up to date. Here's my guess on the staff. I think they'll take 11 to open the season, with two off-days right off the bat. Starters (5): Curt Schilling, David Wells, Josh Beckett, Tim Wakefield, Jonathan Papelbon. Bullpen (6): Keith Foulke, Mike Timlin, Julian Tavarez, Rudy Seanez, Bronson Arroyo, David Riske. Traded: Matt Clement. There are things that could cause this to change in the next couple of weeks. If Foulke doesn't reclaim his closer role, Arroyo slips back into the No. 5 hole and Papelbon becomes closer. The Sox could deal either Arroyo or Wells, too, depending on the offers they get. But I definitely think they'll deal a starter.

Hey Keep the Faith, if you really believed that young ******* was really a Red Sox fan, please make an appointment with your doctor because you need help. I know in my gut that you think that kid had to be an ******* from the word go. How in hell can anyone be a Red Sox fan and say A-Fraud is their second favorite player. Look, I may be old fashioned in a lot of ways but I think I have enough of a brain to understand this: If you are a diehard Red Sox fan, you despise the Yankees and can never place one of them in your pantheon of heroes. Hammer said it best. Read his post; it says it all.

I agree; how can anyone be a sox fan and have a-hole as their 2nd favorite player. The only way i could comprehend something like that (rooting for a yankee) is if it was Damon. I understand the whole "respect" thing for guys like Jeter, but it ends there---at least for me!

Ohh and I really like Clement, but I think that our team would benefit from having paps get that spot other than Clement. It will make Shill happy too:D

mtb, it is a brand new day and yet I'm still spinning around trying to make heads or tails about that young buck's saying A-Rod is his second favorite player. Wow!!!! I don't know whether to laugh out loud or scream. And A-Rod of all people! Well, all I can say is that the rest of us at least know what's going on. Someone has to counsel that youngster before it's too late. I suggest you. Have a great day my friend.
