would anyone be shocked to see him put up 35-40 doubles while playing half his games in fenway. i know i wouldn't considering he has had 4 seasons of 30 plus doubles playing in a pitchers park. coming to fenway should only make him look better as a hitter.

BF, I can only hope that Gonzales does his job of playing sound defense for us, and isn't just an automatic out at the plate. In the field he should be quite an improvement over Renteria; at the bat I think he isn't going to be much of a hitter for us.

I'm sorry to ruin your party you have going for gonzo but Dustin should start over this guy. I would want my young talent to get experience so they can prolong a major league career. Even if Gonzo starts do you realy think he can sustain the pressure and if he does i'll admit I made a bad call, but I don't think he'll be anything special. He might have a coule clutch hits for us but everyone steps up a couple times a year, but no one does it like Papi

pedroia could still get some more AAA experience. he got hurt last yr and his stats suffered. more at-bats in pawtucket will not hurt him plus he needs to move back to shortstop. he played second last year so i would rather have him switch back in pawtucket unless he really tore it up in spring training.

Who compared Alex Gonzalez with David Ortiz? If they did first of all I missed it, second they're over optimistic.

I stand by my Alex Gonzalez in Boston predictions: 35 doubles, 10 homers, 60-70 RBI, .270 AVG. Nothing special no, but he'll be good enough in this lineup.

Krein, you are not ruining my party at all and you have it all wrong. I AM ONE OF DUSTIN PEDROIA'S BIGGEST FANS, AND I MEAN BIGGEST, AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM BEAT OUT GONZALES AND BE OUR SHORTSTOP. Get it? No, the problem is we don't know if they are going to switch Dustin back to short, which I wish they would, and if they do, they want him to get a little more experience in AAA. I would love nothing better than for Pedroia to have a blowout spring and relegate Gonzo to the bench.. I was never for this signing in the first place.

I think given the circumstances of this winter the Gonzo signing is best. Everyone wants to see Pedroia succeed, and he'll only improve his chances by starting in Pawtucket. Boston can be a pressure cooker for new free agents, but it is ten times worse for rookies (Cla Meredith). Gonzo is not expected to be a heavy offensive impact player. He has shown some cluthch hitting this week and if he can be more patient at the plate, I don't think we'll be disappointed. Plus he's money with the glove. I saw him turn a nice double play this week.

I think the right move is to keep Dustin at 2B. While we have Loretta this year, he's certainly getting older and so is Tony G. We only signed Gonzalez for one year but I assume we're hoping he pans out, which would leave Dustin with no spot next year. If we allow Dustin to develop at 2B then we can posible look to move Loretta in the offseason keeping Pedroria and Gonzo up the middle which improves our over all youth much more than letting gonzo walk and plugging Dustin in at SS.

I'm pretty sure Loretta's a free agent after this year.

Which gives Dustin Pedroia the starting job next year at second.

he has only once had an average as high as .270. You are looking more at a player with a .250-.260 average at his best, but his power remains a complete mystery....

Stop being stupid. He's moving from Pro Player to Fenway.

Mo, Pedroia is no Meredith; this guy is the real thing and a real future Red Sox star at heart. Take my word for it, this guy is going to be something and when he is ready he must be put in the lineup to stay.

I think you are.

But even if this guy sees it he's going to go Aristotle on us...

"People who play for the Red Sox suck.

Alex Gonzalez plays for the Red Sox.

Alex Gonzalez sucks."

They are figuring you out Riv.....LOL!!!!

One more thing. My prediction is that Loretta is going to look so good at bat, in the field, in the clubhouse and batting in the No. 2 position that the Red Sox are going to want to resign him. If that is the case and Pedroia is still stuck at second it is another wasted year for him. I think he should stay at SS and develop there. I think Gonzo is a one year rental at best and his lack of discipline at the plate and his weak hitting will not be missed after one year. I could be wrong but that is the way I see it.

Im with you there on that. If such a rebound of a season happens, why not resign him to 2 seasons to bridge the gap to another home grown Red Sox prospect Jed Lowrie

----------------------

hey "schillingouttheKs', I had found Gonzo's hitting chart, http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats/mlb_individual_player_hitting_chart.jsp?playerID=136460&statType=1

Just like Lowell & Loretta, he's a dead pull hitter and just about all of his doubles (2 Hrs indluded) in Pro Player Stadium went to left field. Some biased people dont like to hear the cold hard facts. The trio of Lowell, Loretta, & Gomzo will make their fair share of dents on the monster ;)
