It's in a bunch of papers

Manny to the Angels then prospects to Arizona and then Troy Glaus and prospects back to the Sox

This deal intrigues me depending on the Prospects the sox get back if they can get a2 or 3 out of this group conor jackson, carlos quintin, brandon wood, Howie Kendricks, Kendry Morales, and Santana. Then the deal might be worth it, you can either keep these guys and develop them or flip acouple of them to another team for bat. Lets say to the devil rays for carl crawford or Rocco baldelli, or to the reds for sean casey or adam dunn, or a number of other deals.

FROM-- Boston Globe

SOX-- a package of players including Troy Glaus (who will play first)

Angels-- Manny

D-Backs-- prospects from anaheim

i want to know who the package of players the sox are getting would be.

the source thinks this might be a done deal by the end of the meetings

I think that part of the problems the Red Sox had last year was that there offense relied to heavy on manny and ortiz. This may seem crazy but last year it seemed like we only scored runs when manny or ortiz were driving them in. The year before it seemed like the lineup was deeper and like everyone drove in 80+ runs. So I like the idea of trading manny and getting 2 or 3 extra bats to go in this lineup. This way we wont rely so heavily on manny and ortiz. In a way this would make the line up more formidable because a pitcher will have to deal with the entire line up and not just manny and ortiz.

I would throw in Casey Kotchman to that group who I am real high on but if they intend to place Troy Glaus at first then it negates the idea. I would be willing to take a gamble on Troy Glaus at 1st but we need another bat if Manny is leaving and it should be in the form of Garrett Anderson, Shawn Green, or Luis Gonzalez. I would take Darin Erstad to play CF if the Sox feel Johnny Damon is a dead end. I would want 1-2 prospects in return for this deal. Then I hope that David Wells-Mark Loretta deal goes down filling all positions with capable players:

C: Jason Varitek

1B: Troy Glaus

2B: Mark Loretta

3B: Mike Lowell

SS: Edgar Renteria

CF: Darin Erstad/Johnny Damon

RF: Shawn Green/Luis Gonzalez/Garrett Anderson

LF: Trot Nixon

DH: David Ortiz

...no matter who gets the spots it would give us a balanced offense with 4 LH 4 RH and 1S.

yeah, didn't manny and ortiz drive in like 300 of Boston's 950 runs or something?

personally from what i saw of kotchman this year, i think this guy could be a steal. the only problem previously mentioned is you can't keep both him and glaus...has glaus even played 1B before?
