The point about Rose's defense is a valid one. I'd give the award to Dwight. Almost everyone would agree that he's the most valuable defensive player in the NBA' date=' and he's also extremely important (and dominant) on the offensive end.[/quote']

Rose has improved in all aspects of his game, including defense. His intensity on that side of the floor is much better this year. Just the other day he completely shut down Deron Williams. Held him to 2 points and 1 of 12 from the field. I watched the game. Williams was just outclassed.

Since when is 23 ppg from a center dominant? Shaq and The Dream were dominant. Howard is good. I'm not disputing his ability on the defensive end.

Williams was also playing with an injured wrist, an injury that has caused the Nets to considered shutting him down for the rest of the season. Williams had been struggling a lot with that wrist even before the match up against Rose. I think the poor shooting performance had more to do with the injury then Rose playing great defense.

Rose has improved defensively, but he remains the least valuable defensive player in their stating five ... which directly relates back to the talk of Most Valuable Player.

As is the case with most great players, what Dwight does on the offensive end doesn't just show up in his stats. He dominates games not just by scoring, but by drawing so many extra defenders into the paint that his teammates stare down wide open three after wide open three. But the same holds true with Rose, as his offensive value doesn't just show up in his stats either, and I agree that Rose holds more value on that end of the floor than Dwight.

But the gap separating Dwight's defensive value with Rose's is significantly bigger than the gap separating Rose's offensive value with Dwight's, which is why I think he deserves the award.

Defense simply does not compare to offense in players' value, though.

In most cases I'd agree, but in Dwight's case, he's the single most valuable defensive player in the NBA. Defense starts from the inside out. Most perimeter defenders are of equal value, and their effectiveness depends largely on how well the paint is defended by the bigs. The vast majority of perimeter defenders who have very good reputations would not be nearly as good on a team without strong interior defense (and vice-versa).

Dwight is so valuable defensively that, by himself, he could make a poor defensive team better than average. I firmly believe that if Dwight were on the Knicks right now, they'd be, at the very least, a decent defensive team. There are many things that go into team defense, but the single most important is quality interior defense.

Haha yeah' date=' my friend texted me. Who won and what caused it?[/quote']

Big Z was swinging elbows at the top of the key, he hit John Wall in the face with one of them, John Wall didn't like it and punched Big-Z, things got broken up before much else could happen. Then after that Javale McGee ran over and Juwan Howard was trying to get into a fight with him. Howard didn't really do anything though. It wasn't much of a fight but if things didn't get broken up Big-Z and Wall and McGee and Howard were both going to go at it.

From what it sounds like Wall and Big Z could get suspensions, Howard likely not. Mcgee also got a technical but wasn't ejected.

I don't think they blew it up, none of those guys will be stars. Gallinari's still an overrated volume chucker. Wilson's an okay third option, not much more. In any case, Melo's a bad fit, and it's pretty embarrassing that they could have had Deron Williams for, at most, the same package, possibly less.

I actually think one of Melo and Stoudemire will be gone by this time next year, maybe even this coming summer. It's a square-and-circle fit with them, it's obvious Stoudemire's unhappy, and it could get ugly.

Knicks getting blown out by the Nets. Nice job blowing up your roster for a player who isn't top ten.

you opened your mouth too early its a one point game going into the 4th and melo has 37 points going into the 4th
