I like that somewhat, but I'm wondering about the salaries, would we have to give some money to the braves? I also think we should get more than Jones and Johnson for a future HOF and a very good closer(he's only had 1 bad year). I think Wilson Benemit or Blaine Boyler should also be included. Maybe both.

It makes sense in a way. The braves need a closer (Foulke) and a LF (manny). They have no room in the future OF for Johnson because of Francoeur and Langerhans. I could see them dealing Jones since his contract is up after next season. They also have a solid CF in Josh Burrus to replace Jones.

Jones=$13,000,000

VS.

Foulke=$7,500,000

Manny=$19,806,820

------------------------------------

difference of 14,306,820

so there is an issue with salaries

looks like manny for tejada might still be possible

In other news, the club remains in talks with a couple of teams about a trade involving disgruntled shortstop Miguel Tejada, but the Orioles appear to be no closer to trading the All-Star than they were several weeks ago after Tejada publicly called for a change of scenery.

All along, the Orioles have maintained that they'd need to be overwhelmed to deal Tejada, and no team has come close to accomplishing that, according to industry sources. The Boston Red Sox, according to one source, have made one of the most intriguing offers -- outfielder Manny Ramirez and starting pitcher Matt Clement for Tejada -- but several high-ranking Orioles officials remain opposed to trading the team's best player within the American League East.

The Cubs, who are offering a package anchored by ace right- hander Mark Prior, are believed to be the most aggressive suitor for Tejada at this point, but the two teams still haven't come close to reaching an agreement on any deal, according to sources. The Orioles are believed to prefer Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano over Prior, and they also are reluctant to part with left-hander Erik Bedard in the deal.

There were also some reports that Oakland could be part of a three-team deal, and the Orioles could get a package back that includes Prior and Athletics left- hander Barry Zito, but those talks have died. The Orioles, according to industry sources, talked with Arn Tellem, Zito's agent, and were told Zito, who is a free agent after this season, would not a sign a long-term deal with the Orioles. That would be a prerequisite for the Orioles to acquire Zito in any deal.

that sounds more of a speculative trade idea than an actual legit trade proposal. don't get me wrong, it could help both teams tremendously but since atlanta is operating as small market team with a fixed budget (since the team is for sale) i find it hard to believe they are willing to spend that kind of money for both manny and foulke instead of keeping the younger andruw jones who really was their mvp since chipper went on the DL multiple times last season. they would have to be really desperate to think they had no shot to resign him and taking a 20 mil. a year player + foulke is a better alternative.

Patterson is terrible. His career OPS is 700. His 2005 season was amazingly bad (OPS of 600). We would basically be trading away 1/4 of our offense for a (albeit talented) pitcher with health concerns. We would be better off keeping Manny and playing Adam Stern in CF.

The only Manny trade that makes sense now is one that fills a position of serious need ( SS or CF) with a top notch player.

I don't think you can write off Patterson, granted you can't compare him to the potential of Reed, Crisp, but Patterson like them is still young, He could turn out to reach his potential for all we know.

Although Patterson could have a miraculous turnaround (he did put up decent numbers in about 100 AB in AAA last year) we already have a slick defensive CF with good offensive ml numbers in Adam Stern. Why would we trade for another who has already failed in 2000 ML AB?

From espn.coms rumor mill:

The Orioles are seriously weighing a proposal from the Red Sox of Manny Ramirez and Matt Clement for Miguel Tejada, ESPN's Peter Gammons reports.

Baltimore will weigh other discussions --Philadelphia, the White Sox and Houston are also in on Tejada -- and decide early next week which way to go.

They want a star in return for Tejada. Ramirez is better suited for Camden Yards. Tejada's agents are pushing for Boston so he can be united with good friend David Ortiz.

There is also an AP report that "the Orioles are on the brink of abandoning their effort to trade disgruntled shortstop Miguel Tejada, who has expressed a desire to leave Baltimore because the team has not done enough to improve itself during the offseason." (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Arfg8J4NJV4m7L1R_nvU4mA5nYcB?slug=ap-orioles-burnitz&prov=ap&type=lgns)

I would tend to agree, however, that of all the rumors out there the one that makes the most sense (from the O's pov) would be Manny + SP. The O's really do need to improve their SP.

I would much rather have the 4 way deal than this, but if it is done I wouldn't mind. It's a lot better than what the O's origionally wanted (Papelbon/Lester along with Arroyo) but would give us 2 holes in the Of, with whom idk who we'd fill it with. Only decent options I see are Hidalgo and Wilson FA wise, one of them combined with Reed/Crisp would serve okay for one season I guess, but still doesn't look good to me.

i have never been the biggest JD Drew fan but when healthy he can be a productive player. he showed it at times with the cardinals and had a really good season in 2004 with the braves. its not a question of talent its if he can stay healthy.

I found this over at S.o.S.H. Apparently, in an interview with ESPN Deportes, Manny has said he's willing to stay in Boston now. No surprise, if you ask me.

ESPN Deportes - I can't translate it, perhaps someone here can.

"There is no change. I am going to remain in Boston, where I know the system and I have my friendships, specially my companion David Ortiz," said to Ramirez Thursday to ESPNdeportes.com.

"I know the Red Sox and the American League. That is a reason not to move me to National League", said Ramirez. "In addition, I want to play for a contending team and Boston assures that."

yea i think that this should put forth a rule for the Sox FO

When Manny asks for a trade, dont take him literally. Because he will later spin a 180 on that request.

what the hell is wrong with this guy. One day he needs to be traded the next he wants to stay. In 2 weeks he'll ask for a trade again. Whatever im fine with his bat in the lineup

This is great news - if it pans out...

I feel like we just upgraded and we didn't actually do anything!

Now lets get Tejada. ;)

In the last part of the articles, Manny says something and I'll try to translate.

"Alex es norteamericano. Hay que entenderlo y apoyar su decisión", dijo Ramírez."

"Alex is North American. He is really gay but I respect his decision", said Ramirez."

Is that correct?????

Rotoworld: One source close to negotiations told the Boston Globe that the Red Sox have instructed the Orioles to work out a restructured contract for Manny Ram?rez and that they would then settle on the players to make a deal for Miguel Tejada. Seems unlikely to us. Agent Greg Genske said last night he has not been authorized by the commissioner's office to talk with the Orioles about a new deal for Ram?rez, who is owed $57 million over the next three years. The Red Sox have reportedly offered Ram?rez and Matt Clement for Tejada and Jay Gibbons, but that's negotiable. They're also still considering Julio Lugo, with the Globe suggesting that Lugo could play center field if the Red Sox acquire both. Obviously, that's another huge long shot.
Posted

Would they seriously put Lugo in CF?? He doesnt at all seem like a CF, let alone hes played only 14 games in the OF before.

Also, since when are the Sox asking for Gibbons with Tejada?? If they O's wont trade tejada for manny and clement, why would accept Tejada and Gibbons for Manny and Clement
