Josh Byrnes to AZ, hidden meaning?

For those who missed it....Josh Byrnes was the assistant GM to Theo Epstein and has now been hired by Arizona to be there new GM. It sounds more and more like Theo will be staying so could this possibly be the table setting for a deal??

great for the Red Sox. Now maybe they can trade Wells to the DBacks for the closer tha they need in Brandon Lyon and complete the fleecing from the Schilling deal. Meanwhile the Yankees will offer Robinson Cano and Chien Ming Wang and the DBacks will still turn down the deal

Let's hope this means we are keeping Theo. We need him back next year. There is no other GM that is as good as he is in my opinion.

No hidden meaning. Joe Garagiola left the job and they need one. Who better than an assistant to one of the best out there? This could make a trade EASIER but who knows.

 

Oh and to the Lyon comment, I personally hope that NEVER EVER happens. He was overworked by the worst manager in the NL, Bob Melvin and was hurt for basically the rest of the season after May. If the Red Sox wanted anyone to close for them from the D'Backs it should be Valverde. Dominant stuff, FIERY demeanor on the mound and has experience closing. Another possibility would be Greg Aquino, but I would take Valverde over him anyday because Aquino is inconsistent and we wouldn't need that from a reliever/closer. I think everyone is sick of that.

And the ideas have already started. Today an arcticle came out about Chad Tracy possibly being available and the Red Sox being interested. We already have the upper hand because of the connection between Byrnes and Theo. Unfortunatly the D-Backs need a bullpen worse than we do so that presents a trade problem. Still, this is a good start.

True about the BP in Arizona. We could really use a corner IF/OF type of guy though, and pitching is where our farm system is deepest. MDC + PTBNL for Tracy? Who knows. Byrnes will definitely have some favorites from our system since he knows it so well.
