Big f***ing deal. Bret Favre's dad dies and he went out and threw for like 400 yards that next day.

399 and 4 TD's QB rating 154.9, I think every Packer fan knows those stats

Clemens and Favre are gamers, im not insulting A-Rod here. Im saying these guys seem to be able to channel the greif or whatever to motivate themselves. Maybe A-rod cant do that.

That's the reaction I was expecting from most of you.

Thank you everybody else.

Way to quote half of my post jackass. If you continue to read the post I said I'm sorry about what happened but it's still a bull s*** excuse for poor performance.

I hate when people take stuff out of context.

So his performance only counts if his team loses.

No... but in the games where one big hit would've sent his team to the World Series -- he couldn't get it done -- in any of them.

If I were a Red Sox fan, I would hate to be lumped in with a comment as insensitive as that. He didnt use it as an excuse, nor did he tell anyone about it. Thank you though for adding in your comments. I'm sure all of us who have lost loved ones will be glad to know that we should ALWAYS respond by going back to our daily routine even though we didn't have a chance to bury them. well done.

and BTW, if the guy was like a father to him, then I highly doubt he WASN'T thinking of him all day. Most people in that situation would be thinking about them for avery long time. Unlike you, I won't come out and asusme anything about you by saying that you probably have never lost a loved one (not relative, loved one), but you sure sound like it.

Ok I dont know where you step off saying s*** like that. You don't know me or anything about me and you sure as hell don't know s*** about me losing a loved you don't know jack s*** about me.

I went to my Grandpa's wake, my very very close Grandpa's wake and then 2 hours later stepped on the football field for a game. My skills didn't diminsh, I didn't suddenly not know how to tackle, or not know how to throw a block. It was the same crap. When you're participating in an athletic event you focus on nothing but the game. Sure it got to me before and after the game but betwene the lines for 48 minutes the only thing on my mind was football. Using a death is a bullcrap excuse for diminished performance at any time.

Also, it was A-Rods MOM who said it, it wasn't like the press asked A-Rod why he did bad and he said my Uncle died, how could you ever expect me to go out there and preform.......... or anything like that... His mom said it..

And If my child was getting talked about the same way, I woulda done the same

And in some situations, it does mess you up physically and mentally

Once my dad got hurt in a car crash, and my mom told me during the 3rd inning of a baseball game, and for the next like 5 innings all I could think about was him, and wanted to get home to see him, and really did bad.....maybe theres a difference with deaths, I've never been put in that situation....but it can most definaly effect you

if you were smart enough to bold the last part of the sentence, then you should have bolded the whole thing and you woulda realized what I was really saying.

Let me commend you on your ability to emotionally detach your memories of your grandpa as a result of a game a mere 2 hours after seeing his coffin. Does it mean you're an emotionally detached, insensitive, cold-hearted guy who didn't give a rats ass about his grandpa's passing? Of course not, that would be the same approach you took to ARod in your judgement of the way he dealt with the passing of a loved one.

BTW, nice move using your grandpa's wake to make a point on a forum to an anonymous stranger over the net. Some might say it trivializes the event, but I won't go there (please remember to bold the whole sentence this time)

I would assume Sizzling's repsonse would that favorite phrase of many red Sox fans "sack up and get a pair". Only pussies allow outside emotions to get in the way of playing their athletic best.

Sports make you forget things when youre in the act of doing sometihng athletic you forget things. You focus on the task at hand such as hitting a baseball.

Don't get me wrong here I feel for the guy for losing his Uncle but that can't be used as an excuse for poor performance. I highly doubt that he was thinking about all the wonderful memories he had with his uncle as he was digging into the battters box. He didn't perform 'nuff said case closed.

wpaa...calm down there pal. Everybody handles things differently. I think that is pretty cold what you just said. Thats like if your mom dies and you go to work and you arent very productive at work and a co-worker says "get over it, jack's brother died and he met his deadline" or some s*** like that. It's insensitive.

well my friend, you are an amazing human being, because I know that if someone close to me died I could not go out on the field and play at my best. Its only natural to have emotions flowing.

and BTW, on the Clemens thing, he really didnt pitch that great the day his mom died. So if you are going to get on A-Rod then get on Roger too.

And also, like redRuffing said, Alex didnt use that as an excuse, his mom did.
