Will Francona return

I would have a hard time seeing the first sox manager in 86 years to win a series, get fired because they lost in the first round. I know he is not the smartest manager, but he makes gutsy moves and I hope he stays around a couple more years. I also think that it was remarkable that this team one 95 games considering they lost their Ace due to injury, the closer was hurt all year, and they had inconsistant offense the whole last month of the season

No way Francona is blamed for this year's "loss". We made the playoffs 3 years in a row, tied with the Yankees for the AL East lead (not crown), and held the lead for most of the season with a patchwork pitching staff and no (I mean NO) bullpen support at all.

 

They didn't sign Francona to be a one or two year guy; I think Theo hand picked Francona to start a dynsasty. I don't agree with every move he makes, but he has had some pretty difficult players and situations between players and media. Its a tough market and a tough town, but I really doubt that management is doubting Francona's moves.

Ownership has yet to give him a formal endorsement, but back-to-back playoff appearances and a World Series title under his belt should earn him a raise from the Red Sox.

There's only one good manager (maybe two or three others who are decent) in baseball. That man is Bobby Cox. No he doesn't have a lot of rings, but Cox still gets the Braves in the playoffs every year, and that is impressive in its own right. I must say I was impressed with Guillen's managing skills, but other than that I could really care less who manages this team. This is a team with plenty of talent that almost anyone could manage. The more important coaching situation is Dale Sveum. Is his contract up yet? Because I can't wait for the day where I look down third base and actually have a little confidence in the guy deciding if we get runs.

Boston.com has reported that since Francona's first 2 seasons he has led the team to the playoffs, it is expected after Theo's deal is done that Tito will get a nice big raise in the form of an extension
