Wow everyone is so accepting of this year's miserable failures. Why don't we just throw the Red Sox a rolling rally for making the playoffs!! We can all march down Yawkey way holding hands and singing "Kumbaya" and thanking the Red Sox players for their valiant effort in being DESTROYED in the playoffs.

You people are far too forgiving. This is a team who has the 2nd highest payroll in the majors. Epstein dropped the ball completely in the offseason. When you get rid of guys like Derek Lowe and Pedro and your grand replacement is Matt Clement you deserve an F for a report card.

As for what the Yankees are doing, I really don't care!!! It's the Red Sox im angry and disappointed at. The Yankees could have a 600 million dollar payroll and end up 30 games out of last place and I would not care. This year's Red Sox team was a total DISGRACE to the fans of New England who put so much faith in to them.

And you can lead that parade!!

dude whatever, you're a disgrace of being a red sox fan. Ive been a die hard fan since birth in 83, and i have seen much worse losses than what happened in Chicago, I could list them if you want. A loyal fan is one who has faith in their team even in their darkest days, you on the other hand start buying white sox apparel.

2004 made you people complacent. Unless you start wanting it again, it's going to be a helluva long time before you win it again. Just my opinion.

The best part was going through the year as World Champs. It was tough to watch Schilling and Foulke break down and then seeing Pedro being Pedro with the Mets. It was a miracle this team did so well with inconsistent starting pitching and no help from the bullpen. Big Papi had a season to remember.

ok, so if us fans take losses more devastatingly, it will be another 86 years or so? laughing my ass off here, dude arod2212 shut up that doesnt make any sense. As I said before yes it sucked that they lost and I was hoping for another world series title, but hey what can I do? sit around and gloat about it?

Ok then so the reason yankees havent won the world series in 5 years is because the yankee fans as well have been complacent and "not wanted a world series win"?

get off your high horse, ass

No, he means the team needs to want it. I will agree with arod2212 here. Too many times this season did I feel like I was watching a team who didn't care if they won or lost. It seemed like they were thinking, "Okay, we won in 2004 so we can take a year or two of relaxation..."

Honestly, this postseason and the final stretch of the regular season seemed like they just wanted the season to be over and go be lazy during the offseason. I didn't see a team that wanted another set of rings, they had NO spark when it counted most.

yeaaa but he said "2004 made you people complacent", meaning he was talking to us sox fans. the quote wasnt directed to the team itself, it was towards us sox fans because we arent pissing and moaning about the loss, what all cocky yankee fans want to see.

I think the bold part was meant for the fans, but the second part meant for the players. How the f*** does us wanting it make an impact on how the team does? The team needs to want it...I think that's what he meant, but I could be wrong..whatever.

I was starting to gain a lot of respect for your posts. Most of them have been rooted in reason and rationality. That is not the case here. Not committing hari-kari when the season ends doesn't mean we want it any less, and our degree of desire as fans will not make the pitchers pitch better nor the hitters hit better. Seems to be a bit of muckraking to me.

I'm just incredibly surprised with how easily you are taking this. Boston has always been a bottom line, win or be villified all winter kind of city. It seemed like the players played without the resiliency they showed last year, not the same drive. They did their job, got the Series there. And you guys seem to be cool with that. It's just weird to me. And that kind of atmosphere is not the kind that becomes a dynasty.

I'm not saying you should go ape s*** over the team, but you are rationalizing it awfully quick. Boston doesn't win the World Series last year, and the attitude is different is all I'm saying. And you can't rationalize this year's failure with the success of the year before. You don't play up to your potential like that, and you don't win multiple championships like that. It seems to be that's what the players did this year, and as a fan that would piss me off.

Haha, the sad truth is:

For 86 years we only knew how to explain losing. Nothing more. We have no idea how to explain winning, LET ALONE the fact of coming off of a World Series run. It's all different because we have finally won, so the atmosphere is going to be COMPLETELY different.

Riverside,

The Great Irish Jay realizes that your just a high school student so he is not going to get in to an argument with you because you may resort to calling Jay a "Doo Doo head". I think Red Sox fans need to be more demanding of this team. I mean my fault lies with guys like Johnny Damon and Curt Schilling I can forgive Graffanino for he had a very solid year at 2nd and he's a heart and soul player.

How bad is it that our best pitcher down the stretch was 42 year old vastly overweight David Wells......(HEARS GROUND SHAKE) Guys like Arroyo and Schilling failed to step up as did Varitek at the bat.

Last year has nothing to do with this year, so I'm not trying to excuse this years loss just because the Sox have allowed so many to say "Now I can die in peace". Am I upset the team's season is over? Absolutely. Am I surprised? Not really.

This team lacked pitching; it did all year.

Ortiz and Ramirez carried the load in September and played well in the 3 postseason games, but nobody else was doing anything at the plate with any consistency. Was this due to a lack of desire? I highly doubt it. If anything I would say they were pressing because they had the lead down the stretch instead of chasing (this would be an interesting study as they seemed less patient at the plate coming down the stretch, I'd wager money their pitches seen per PA is lower than the first 5 months).

Rationalizing is making excuses. These aren't excuses; they are the reality of why the season is over.

Actually, Riverside claims to be a 22 year old. Is he still in high school? You make the decision...
