I was at the game tonight. You saw what happens when you have a deep bullpen. Mike Socica called on Scott Shields in the 5th inning because he knew he has guys left in the pen that can get him to K-Rod. The Yankees nor any other team out there can call on their 2nd best reliever in the 5th inning and still feel they can get it to their closer.

Angels are favored for this one

Jarrod Washburn in 6 games vs NYY, 3-2 record with a 2.72 ERA

Shawn Chacon in 2 games vs LAA, 0-1 record with a 9.00 ERA

errors aside, its been a great series. pitching has made all the difference, and if LAA meets CHW, I guarantee they are going to find runs harder to come by than the batting practice our pitchers were throwing them.

If NYY meets CHW, well, they might have to rely on outscoring them with that pitching. Unlike us, NYY actually have more than 2 guys who can hit it out for them and have a better shot to outscore them. Outside of Rivera and Moose (who's still not 100%) rotation is shaky...we'll see...should be interesting!

I'm feeling pretty bummed about the series, my only consolation is that the Red Sox got swept. The Angels made it look like batting practice against us tonight. I had visions of 2002, it's not even funny. If they had some decent starting pitching, I would actually be afraid of them (not to say I aint already)

washburn isn't what i consider a dominant consistent pitcher and chacon has been arguable the most reliable yankee pitcher since joining the team. can't see angels sweeping ny at home, but thats why they play the games eh?

I think we'll come back strong tomorrow, I havent seen Randy lit up liike that before, not even during his worse stretches this season. I got a feeling he was tipping his pitches. The Angles must have the best reader of those type of things, I remember in 2002 hearing quite a few rumors that the Angels were eithe rstealing signs or really good at reading the opposing pitchers.

Even if we're eliminated in the first round this year, this will probably go down (at least for me) as one of the better seasons in recent memory.

It was a fun regular season but if we lose today it will certainly be a bitter end. The bottomline is Sheff and A-Rod NEED to come alive today. You cant win the series when your 2 best hitters have a combined 3 hits. Chacon needs to put up some zeros also. CHACON TO RIVERA TODAY!!!

if yankees lose today it will surely prove yankees and red sox have had a carbon copy season. finished season with same record, both dont make it to ALCS, they both had serious injuries to their pitching staff, theyd lose on the same days, win on the same days, number of other things, etc.

boo I was hoping to see a good game tonight :( There is Padres vs Cards but... (1) its at 11:35 pm (2) padres vs cards is the least exciting playoffs matchup of 2005

Game 4 of Angels-Yankees postponed

October 8, 2005

NEW YORK (AP) -- Game 4 of the AL playoffs between the Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees was rained out Saturday and rescheduled for Sunday night. The game was to have been played Saturday afternoon, but rain all morning resulted in the postponement about three hours before the start. Game 4 is to begin at 8:15 p.m. EDT.

Los Angeles won 11-7 Friday night in a game played through light but steady rain. The Angels can eliminate the Yankees for the second time in four seasons and face the Chicago White Sox in the AL Championship Series. The pitching matchups remain unchanged for Game 4: Angels left-hander Jarrod Washburn will start against Shawn Chacon of the Yankees. The Yankees left Game 1 winner Mike Mussina in California to pitch a possible Game 5.

Helps the Angels I think. The dropoff from the start to end of there rotation is much more severe for them than us. I wish last night was rained out, that was pathetic.

I got goosebumps because it reminded me of 2003 ALCS Game 7. Down big early with the ace on the mound, starter comes in with 2 on and nobody out, gets the strikeout and doubles up the leadoff hitter to shut down the rally and keep it close. Then the Yankees made their run and got ahead 6-5.

Damn you Randy Johnson.
