Are we picking out a different player each day this week to bash, or what? First Rents who completely doesn't deserve a bashing. Then Manny who also totally doesn't deserve it. And now Tek ... of all people ... TEK! Maybe we can try going more than 24 without bashing a player ... or would that be impossible?

I think what thir trying to say is on like 0-2;2-2 such pitches that are homers or extra base hits is because while their in the batters box, they can tell what pitch he likes to call where. That happens to EVERY catcher in the MLB

and more times than less its on the Pitchng coach than the catcher

there are few players in this world who are above reproach--excpet varitek.

he might very well be the greatest catcher the redsox have ever had and that includes fisk.

He also happens to be the best catcher inbaseball...amd oh by the way he can hit.

dont mess with Tek..

That's a criminal offense.

I have said some ridiculous things in my time, but questioning Tek's pitch calling ranks up there as the dumbest thing that has ever been said on this web site.

Congratulations.

All around, yes, but just catching I don't think so. He can't throw runners out as well as a guy like molina or even not-so-pudge.

I agree, as a sox fan I admit that we overrate our players, farm system etc... Tek is a good catcher but he's not the best, lets all be for real. And I stand by what I said, Tek's an average to horrible pitch calling catcher, I don't blame Beane for wanting to trade him ...

Can you name a catcher with better defense and offense?

Well, when you combine his offense and defense, he's the best catcher in baseball.

okkk here we go... your comment that the reason this season's bullpen ERA is high is because of Jason Varitek, is just so assinine. I remember countless times on replays on NESN and ESPN, the announcers would be saying Varitek has his glove where he wants the ball thrown and instead the reliever would throw it way off from that location. like take foulke's grand slam he gave up to travis haffner, from Jerry Remy "you see Varitek had his glove positioned in the top right corner, instead foulke left a hanging fastball thru the middle of the strike zone" the biggest problem this year in relieving this season has been their location, not the captain behind the plate!!

Jason Varitek is 11th since 1992 in catcher ERA, he is the teams captain, excellent defensive catcher, and below details his stats this season in terms of league rank amongst catchers.

Runs - 3rd

Hits 6th

2B - 2nd

3B - T-3rd

HR - 1st

RBI - 2nd

BB - 5th

Avg. 3rd

OPS - 2nd

Bash TEK... WHAT AN *******!

Dude,Tek would ask pitchers like halama for high FB's to put hitters away, HEAT THEY DON'T HAVE! He's to predictable, he asks for the heater way to much ....

Yeah I strongly doubt he gave a s*** about the Sox until after the ALCS, maybe even the WS. Clearly he knows nothing about anyone on the team so that's the only conclusion I can come to.

Not for nothing, but he never said "Veratek is an Overall sucky player" he said that hes too predictable on calls, and your giving stats about his home run tally?? Who cares if he had 10 career Homers or 600, it doesn't change how he is as a catcher, it changes how he is as a batter, the only stat thats import to back up, prove wrong is pitching ones. But I still understand what hes trying to say, everyone else is just either misreading it, or ignoring it in all.

"Veritek is a very predictable catcher" "Oh yea, well he hit .237 with 21 Homers and had a .355 OB% last year"......Who cares, its irrelivant to the situation

First of all learn how to spell the guys name before you say anything about him. I'm sure you'd be upset if I spelled Jetar, Sheffeld, and that Alan Rodriguez's name wrong. Like schillingout said click on page 3, and scroll to the bottom.

On an 0-2 count, 95% percent of pitches are out of the strikezone. Some are off the plate, but most are out of the zone up or out of the zone down, leaving you and the hitter a 50% chance of guessing correct.

Tek calls a good game. And CS% is a function of more than just his ability. The pitcher on the mound is a variable in that equation too. When Arroyo is pitching, runners have a lower success rate because Bronson does a good job holding them and is quick to the plate. When its Wake, most of the pitches are coming in around 67-74 mph, and he has a slow move to home.

lol, its a tough name, and I type fast, but I think you knew what I meant, Jeter you should get, but if you spell like Felix Escalonas name wrong, thats ok
