Sox ban longtime "Yankees Suck" motto from shirts in Fenway Park. The Yankees no longer suck in Fenway Park. They just stink. Red Sox officials have quietly banned "Yankees Suck" T-shirts from the ballpark, forcing wearers to turn them inside-out. "Fans have told us loud and clear that, for families, such shirts are offensive," said Charles Steinberg, the team's executive vice president of public affairs. At least one fan was seen being thrown out of the park for refusing to remove a "Yankees Suck" shirt, though Steinberg couldn't confirm this.

 

"I don't know that an uncooperative person would be ejected, but the compliance rate is so high I haven't heard of it as an issue," Steinberg said. He said the ban of the popular slogan about the Red Sox rivals followed complaints from families who go to games. "Yankees Suck" chants are not prohibited, said Steinberg, "but I've noticed that over the last year [that] the singing of "Beat the Yankees" has become more prevalent."

 

He said T-shirts saying "Yankees Stink" also seemed to be increasingly popular. "There are riches to be earned by the creative entrepreneur who develops the ideal, tasteful slogan," Steinberg said. The Yankees did not respond to requests for comment.

Old news. I was in Boston a couple months ago and they already were coming out with Yankees stink shirts lol. I don't understand why you can't wear them though. I guess they would rather you root for your own team than root against another? I'm sure the last thing they want everyone watching ESPN to see on a recap of the game is a Fenway crowd more concerned with sporting a Yankees Suck shirt than promoting the team root for.

i dont understand that part haha--games ive been to, even when not playing the yankees always hear those chants--sox front office gotta realize that is what happens when in the biggest rivalry of sports

It will never happen. Yankees suck chants go on at games even when the Yanks aren't playing It's always going to be at Fenway.

My parents still go ripshit on me when I say "suck" because I guess it was a cuss word in my parents' childhood that slowly turned into a common word during our generation. But it's weird because they don't care if I say "ass" or "bastard" or "bitch"...yeah. People are weird sometimes.

I never really liked the Yankees Suck Chants or shirts.

 

I hate the Yankees only because of history. I really have nothing against most Yankee players (although I hate A-Rod).

 

Red Sox fans make so much more of this than Yankees fans do. It's imbarrissing somewhat ya know.

Yep, I'm guilty of having a BELIEVE IN BOSTON sticker and a YANKEES SUCK sticker on my car. Besides, when I was reading a handbook of things to do in Boston, when Fenway was described it said "chanting 'Yankees suck' at Fenway will make you a true Bostonian" or something of that sort.

Already have, started last year I believe, they tell you to turn them inside out (unless you're wearing them under a jersey or something), but obviously people just turn them back rightside out when they get in the stadium.

It just tells you things about Red Sox fans, of the hundreds of Yankee games ive been to not once have I heard a Boston Sucks chant when we werent playing Boston (once I heard a Mets suck chant in the bleachers, btu only because 3 Met fans walked in)

It's not always us chanting "Yankees Suck" either. If I remember correctly, the Angels fans all the way out there in Anaheim were chanting it too. It's not just the Sox fans that hate the Yanks many other teams' fans do as well.

 

And yes, I agree with Sizzlin and 26 to 6 about the amendment ordeal.
