White Sox hope to snap skid at seven

New York (67-54) at Chicago (74-46), 2:05 p.m. CT

A slump is something that no team ever wants to experience, but for manager Ozzie Guillen, he's glad that his team decided to get their losing streak out of the way now. The White Sox have lost seven in a row, their longest losing streak of the season, but Guillen knew that his team would have a stretch. "I'd rather be here in that situation right now than be in it in September," Guillen said. "We can go through this right now. A lot of teams have gone through it. Minnesota lost 10 of 11 games two weeks ago and so did Cleveland.

"I think we will come out of here, I think our pitching staff is going to get back, and hopefully our offense helps them. It's 162 games, even the best teams are going to lose." The streak has cost the White Sox their hold on the best record in the Major Leagues, but Chicago would just be happy to add another win to their record. Jose Contreras is the Sox's next hope to get them back to their winning ways. Contreras had success against the Yankees in his last start, shutting out New York for seven innings and giving up only three hits while striking out six.

The Yankees will send Randy Johnson to the mound in hopes of picking up the sweep. Johnson has not faced the White Sox since 1998.

Pitching matchup:

NYY: LHP Randy Johnson

• 11-7, 4.22 ERA in 2005

• Has not faced CWS since 1998

CWS: RHP Jose Contreras

• 7-7, 4.24 ERA in 2005

• 1-0, 1.00 ERA vs. NYY in 2005

Numbers not in the Yankees favor. But I hope RJ can get his act together, on a consistent basis. Been waiting for it the entire season, and just can't lie down now and give up and declare him a bust. I really hope not, anyways.

"We have no fight right now," Pierzynski said after the 5-0 loss. "Maybe we need to get in a fight or something. Do something to get us going."

NY Daily News Full Stoy

Either the NY media has nothing better to do (most likely) or we are going to see some fireworks. Should be a good game. Whats with catchers wanting a piece of Arod?? :dunno:

The all-encompassing explanation as to why players in general want a piece of Rodriguez:

Wilbon: What is it specifically about A-Rod that guys like Schill and Trot Nixon just can't stand?

Kornheiser: He's better looking, he's cooler, he's got all the money. That's what they can't stand.

 Expect some of the humor to get lost here, though. I don't just say this because of this quote, but Wilbon and Kornheiser are pretty much the only sportswriters that are tolerable, to me anyways.

Ozuna picked off trying to steal 3rd, 2-down. Aggressive Ozzie manages himself out of another potential run.

Man, 4 homers in one inning off the Big Unit! I never thought I'd see that. This is not good news for the Yankees going down the stretch. I wonder if this will shake RJ's confidence. I cannot even remember a pitcher giving up 4 in one inning before!

Uhh, I think Brown's probably done that. Well, he keeps 'em in the park alright, but it SEEMS like the inning drags on and on.

We could've kept Javy. He could've served 'em up. For a fraction of the price we paid for RJ.
