This is really starting to bother me. I dont understand how a fomer Gold Glove Short Stop is now making a least one costly error every series, i mean 23 we all use to get on Nomar for his D, but i believe the most errors he had was about 25. The way things are going Renteria is going to have 32 errors and cost the sox a few games, like today. It bogels my brain how you go from 12 to 30 in one year, maybe Tony Larusa was right Edgar should have stayed in a smaller market. By the way O.C. only has 4 errors

O.C. is also hitting .253...

I agree though I think Renteria should have probably stayed in a smaller market where the fans' expectations aren't as high.

His error today was bothersome, but it didn't totally cost us the game today...we lost by 2, not 1. Johnny Damon had the error that gave them the two run lead. Renteria's wasn't the whole reason we lost. We should have scored more too.

I disgaree. OC is hitting a measly 253..or so.

renteria is hitting, and his defense while error prone hasnt really hurt us.

i think nostalgia is making OC seem better than he is...

renty is the man, and will be for three more years.

i think I saw everyone's hero hanely has 20 some errors and yet you all fawn all over him...it doesnt cost us games so really what is the big friggin deal...the hitting is consistent..

I like him.

But the fact is that it DOES cost us games. If not for his errors last night the score would've been 2-0 and we could've tied it. But as it turned out, it was 4-0. And his errors tend to cost runs a lot of the time.

Both runs were earned runs, which didn't cost us the game. You could argue that Renteria's error allowed Figgins to score on the wild pitch, but another run had been put on the board before the error. We still lose the game 3-2.

hardly unlikely in the same offseason would the Sox try to unload Manny's and Edgar's high priced contracts--they're main goals should be new first baseman, a starting pitcher as in AJ Burnett According to Gordon Edes a betting war between Bos and NY will happen, and some looks into improving the bullpen

Renteria's error did not cost us the game yesterday and I can not remember when any of his errors have cost us games.

People's gloves don't jsut get crappy over one off season, he's just having an off season, it happens to everyone. Expect his next 3 years with Sox to be much better as far as the glove goes.

noonanberg, you're a dumbass.

Edgar proved again today why we got him, and if you want a shortstop with only 6 erriors and a 255 batting average you are more than welcome to root for the angels. But here in redsox nation, our shortstop is edgar....

clutch home run..

sizzlin I agree wholeheartedly with your post about the bullpen even remy is baffled sometimes, and for the most part guys like jerry can at least make something up--but there are times where he is scratching his head as much as any of us.

Beating down on Edgar is getting old. He is having a tough year with the glove but his bat has also saved games. Come playoff time, I'm glad he's at short and hitting second in the lineup.

NO KIDDING!!! So if he's costing us SOOOOOOOO many games  I guess we are leading the league in un-earned runs. OH wait...WERE NOT!!! Stop complaining, if he is actually costing us any games, it isn't that many. SO QUIT BASHING EDGAR!!! <_ src="//d1mqtyoopj0gsc.cloudfront.net/emoticons/default_angry.png" alt=""> :thumbdown

I think its the situation. Certain players come to Boston and just fit well and perform above everyones expectations. Renteria is a disaster or a signing this year. Clearly a waste of money and I'm suprised the Red Sox front office got this one wrong. Normally I think Theo is excellent at bringing in everyday players that fit well with the team. When I first saw Edgar get signed I was excited but something was telling me it doesnt look right. There is something about Renteria that doesnt seem to fit and its obvious from his play that he doesnt. I'm not sure what can be done about it but there were better options and I really feel the best way to deal with Edgar at a time like this is to put him in the dog house. He is doing more harm than good and some other guys should see the field. Edgar should move down to the #9 hole and I think Cora should see more time at SS since he plays solid defense and has shown he can put up some good at bats and work the count unlike Edgar who looks lost. Hanley should be able to jump in and get some at bats when the time is right but I don't know if I trust him right now.
