Todays pitching matchup is Colon v Wakefield?

The way Colon has been pitching recently, gotta give the edge to the halos, but it we can get to their pen, I think we have an excellent chance of taking the series. I'm not gonna predict a sweep, but we'll see. I'm gonna go to the game tonight and maybe tomorrow too! Can't wait!

I'm gonna say we split, wake has been pitching really well lately (knock on wood) and I look for him to continue his stellar performance.

game 1- wake vs colon

game 2- clement vs lackey

game 3- arroyo vs santana

game 4- papelbon vs byrd

I like the pitching matchups in all of them, if we keep it close we have an excellent chance. And with no lefty's coming out of the bullpen for anaheim, how do you have a chance to get ortiz out, not that it would have mattered.

as for ALCS- I wanna say a battle of the soxes.

I think this could be a preview of the ALDS, with ALCS being against ChiSox/WildCard winner. Humidity right now in Anaheim is 47% at 79 degrees. Not good conditions for Wake's knuckler.

Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of that. I think there is no way we can end up with a better record than the White Sox unless they just blow the rest of the way.

If I'm Wakefield and 1st is open, I'm walking Vlady everytime. He could throw a pitch in the dirt and Vlad could hit it out of the park

definetely....

Vlad's Career vs T. Wakefield

4 HR, 6 RBI, .400 AVG (10 At Bats)

and in his last 7 games...

13-27 (.481 AVG), 8 RBI, 10 R, 4 HR, 3 SB

Seeing Red: Playoff Atmosphere In Anaheim

Two of the AL's hottest pitchers square off when Bartolo Colon and the Los Angeles Angels face Tim Wakefield and the Boston Red Sox to open a four-game series pitting division leaders.

Colon has emerged as a Cy Young candidate by going 4-0 over his last five starts, limiting the opposition to two earned runs or fewer in all but one of those outings. The right-hander surrendered a run and four hits over eight innings in Saturday's 9-1 victory at Seattle.

Colon struck out five and walked one, moving within one victory of Chicago's Jon Garland (16) for the AL lead in victories.

``The story of the game was Bartolo,'' Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said. ``We did a lot of things offensively, but the way he was locating his pitches and staying ahead in the count, he stayed away from trouble.''

Wakefield has been just as sharp, reeling off four victories in as many starts while allowing two earned runs or fewer three times during that stretch. On Saturday, the knuckleballer allowed two runs and seven hits over 6 2-3 innings, striking out five without a walk, in a 7-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

After winning seven in a row and extending their home win streak to 13, the Red Sox opened a 10-game road trip by dropping two of three in Detroit.

On Wednesday, David Ortiz grounded into a game-ending double play as Boston's ninth-inning rally fell short in a 6-5 defeat to the Tigers.

``We definitely had our opportunities,'' Red Sox center fielder Johnny Damon said. ``We had a good comeback win last night. We had a shot today. But we didn't quite finish out the job. The double plays killed us today.''

Ortiz, who hit two homers in Tuesday's come-from-behind 10-7 win, added a two-run single Wednesday to give him 107 RBIs -- one shy of teammate Manny Ramirez for the major league lead.

While Boston enters this series with a 4 1/2 -game lead over the second-place New York Yankees in the AL East, Los Angeles holds a two-game edge over Oakland in the West.

After winning four in a row, the Angels dropped the final two of their three-game series with Toronto, including Wednesday's 4-1 defeat.

The Red Sox took two of three from the Angels at Fenway Park from June 3-5. They also swept Los Angeles in three games during last year's AL division series.

I'd say it's gonna be a split. The Sox had a 5-4 record against them last year I believe, and went on to sweep them in the post-season. So even if the Sox get beat, I'm not going to get my hopes up that that would be the way it might turn out in the post-season.

game 1- wake vs colon ADV: Angels, and I expect them to win this one.

game 2- clement vs lackey ADV: Push, Clement hasnt been good lately, but Lackey is no stud either. I think the Sox will take this one though In a high scoring game.

game 3- arroyo vs santana ADV: Sox, theyll win it I hope.

game 4- papelbon vs byrd ADV: Sox, for the simple fact that Papelbon has been great, and the Angels have never faced him, so I think he will have another fine performance and the Sox will take 3 of 4

weee. Only 4+ hours till the game starts.

God I hate west coast game times, though tomorrow will be the last 10pm game of the season for the Sox .

I HATE it when we're playing on the west coast!

I live on the east coast. Sox night games typically start at 7:00 PM EST, which means 4:00 PM PST. Those are reasonable times for both coasts to catch a game, right? But when we're playing on the west coast, they start at 10:00 EST here. And that does not seem reasonable to me.

Why can't they start the west coast games at 4 or 5 o'clock PST so that we can see them at 7 or 8?

I agree. I want to watch the game tonight, but I have a tournament tomorrow, meaning I need sleep tonight, meaning I will only be able to watch about an hour of the game. I would say that 5:30 Western time would be reasonable, which would be 8:30 EST. Games would end around 11:00-11:30. I wouldnt mind that, but 10 start time is just ridiculous.

the game wasnt in our favor starting with the error on both parts of mirabelli throwing to tag out the runner on a ground ball throw had edgar misplay it and it went by him, then Manny in the outfield an error on his part. then it was gone when wake was out of the game, myers and remlinger had sealed the deal

We were throwing Wake, they were throwing Colon, that game was never in our favor to begin with.

Agreed. Colon is having his best year as a starter. He got off to a rocky start, but has been phenomenal the last couple of months. This is probably his Cy year. Mariano had a shot before Texas and Tampa came calling. Garland is looking like he will slip off a bit. Halladay has been hurt.

EDIT: Last year's winner, Santana, could give him a run if he has another 2nd half like he did when he won, but I still think Colon would have to slip a bit to lose it.
