I hope not

Yankees GM Brian Cashman is telling friends he plans to leave after the season and hopes to land a job with another East Coast club. ... Red Sox GM Theo Epstein, whose contract expires at the season's conclusion, declined a two-year, $1.9 million extension. He is seeking a five-year deal that could make him the highest-paid general manager in the game.

Give Theo whatever he wants. After what the man did for us last year and is doing for us this year, he deserves that five-year deal. Is it not arguable, that he is THE BEST or one of the best general managers in all of baseball?

Trading Nomar and getting a WS ring out of it was lucky. I swear to God he even THINKS about trading Jeter if he does come to New York I'll kill him.

Yeah, I will be pissed off to the maximum if this happened. Cashman isnt even that great of a GM, he just has an unlimited money supply. Granted Theo pretty much does too, but hes been finding diamonds in the rough... see Ortiz, Graffanino, Mueller, etc.

lucky? Yeah, I can see it now.....Theo flipped a coin on whether to trade nomar or not, give credit where credit is due.

If Cashman leaves and wants to stay on the East Coast he can have the Orioles job since Beattie is expected to fired soon. If the Nationals get new ownership before the year is out, Cashman would be a major coup although their current GM has done an amazing job. Cashman going to Tampa would give the Big Stein heartburn. Sweet Lou and Cashman beating the Yanks. If the Phillies don't make the playoffs, Cashman would be attractive.

Theo deserves a nice contract. Yes he's made some bad decisions but the good and the great decisions seem to far outnumber his mediocre and bad decisions. He's unquestionably improved the farm system and he seems to well respected around the league (other than colorado)

If LL can get a 10 year contract (IIRC), I don't see any reason why Theo shouldn't get a 5 year contract

On a new contract for general manager Theo Epstein: ''We basically said we'll have our discussions and publicly comment on it when it's all done, and I'm going to stick to that approach. I'm confident we'll get it all done in a timely way." Is there no doubt that Epstein will be Sox GM in 2006? ''I think that's fair to say," he said.

I'm guessing the length of the deal is not an issue, but if he's asking to be the highest-paid GM in the game after 3 years on the job, that is quite a request.

If we don't get him to an exstension before the season ends we will have a problem resigning damon.

Damon is not re signing anyways so that doesn't matter.

see Jose Vizcaino, David Justice, Miguel Cairo, Tanyon Sturtze, Shawn Chacon, Tony Clark, etc..

I hate when people say that hes a bad GM because he has an unlimited supply of money, does everybody forget that during the dynasty we didnt have all of the top players in the game, and most of the big money guys (Giambi, Sheffield, Mondesi, Johnson, etc..) have been George deciscions. Im not going to say that hes the best GM in the game (I do think hes better than Theo, for christs sake he invites fans up to his box, drinks with them, and allows them to make suggestions on trades and stuff), I think that he could do well anywhere.

Inside Dish: Boston's Epstein in line for a big raise

By Ken Rosenthal - SportingNews

No one expects general manager Theo Epstein to leave the Red Sox when his contract expires at the end of the season, but some interesting dynamics are in play.

Epstein, who is completing a three-year contract with an annual salary believed to be in the $300,000 to $400,000 range, likely wants a deal close to the one Boston offered Billy Beane in November 2002 -- a reported $13 million over five years. The Red Sox would be more comfortable paying Epstein about $1 million per season, but Epstein possesses the ultimate leverage -- he could threaten to bolt for New York if GM Brian Cashman leaves the Yankees. ...

Where do the latest rumors have him going, Chicago??

I tihnk there are a lot of possiblities to where Damon could go. Great lead off hitters at the level that he is at are hard to come by, he would be a grea addition to almost any tem.

He would also help small market teams who need more people to come to games, the guy is publicity gold.

yes, but the small market teams might not be able to pay him like the big market teams.

Are you serious ? Where are they suddenly going to get the money and the motivation ?Especially when they couldn't do it before.
