I have been doing some thinking, and if given the choice (saying if Wade comes back healthy), i would rather have Jon pitch. In both starts he has just shown more that Miller has all season. I hope Paps keeps it up, hes going to need his A-game against the Angels on Sunday

Yeah, Papelbon is better then Miller so far, but Miller is still dealing with last years arm problem i think. He should of taken the whole season off. But Paplelbon is something to hold on to, and i like the way he is.

I had Wade Miller pegged for a big second half but the injury has taken its toll. He looked real good against the White Sox a little while back but since has been slowed again with the arm issue. Having Papelbon up is just a bonus cause it gives Miller more time to heal without having to rush.

The nice thing with Papelbon is he doesnt run into trouble until the 5th inning as opposed to Miller who still struggles with the 1st inning. That allows Tito to make the move to Gonzalez....which yesturday proved to be a great move. The other nice thing with Papelbon is we have a flame throwing pitcher now. Considering the rest of the starters can't throw much past 90 if they can hit 90 at all.

Wade Miller has #2 pitcher to Ace pitcher some teams when he's healthy , he's just not healthy. Not to mention we're putting Papelbon in the pen.

Papelbon looks like the real deal. He has that look in his eyes that he belongs there which a lot of current big league pitchers still do not possess. He reminds me a lot of Roger Clemens. He can BLOW guys away with 96 MPH fastballs and he also has the same build and height as Clemens. Imagine how good this guy will be when he hones in on a couple more off speed pitchers. Wade Miller to me is just a guy whose arm just won't recover from the beating it's taken. He had great potential but due to injuries he will never be that great pitcher we all hoped for.

I still believe Papelbon helps this team better in the bullpen. He has good stuff, but he's still trying to work on a splitter, and he seems to walk hitters after a few innings. His hard stuff is more suited right now for one or two innings. And the pen is just a car wreck.

If he would have taken the whole year off then he would have been even worse next year. I must have posted this same statement 50 times now on this board, with the type of injury he had, it will take an entire season of throwing for his arm to be back to 100%

How any of you can say Paps is better after 2 big league starts is beyond me. You've seen the guy pitch what ... 13 Innings? Yes Wade had injury problems but I'd much rather stand behind the vet who has experience, than jump on the back of a rook with 2 big league starts. Now, I'm not saying that Paps isn't going to be great, I'm just saying that jumping off Wade's bandwagon is a bad idea. I want Paps to succeed in this league, but I don't think proclaiming him as a regular starter on a first place team is a good idea right now. Maybe give him a few more starts and if he pitches well then you can name him as the 5th starter, but by no means should we be doing this after 2 starts. What if Tito names him a starter and he goes out and fails miserably? Then we have to send him back down, which will completely ruin any confidence he had.

We all want to jump to conclusions so quickly. How many of you wanted Rents gone after the first 2 weeks of the season? Happy he's not now?

Again, I want Paps to succeed and I really hope he goes out for his next start and tosses a Gem. I just don't want to see the Sox to put too much faith in this kid too soon, and then have to take it away.

The decision you guys want Tito to make is a decision that a team like the Pirates, or Drays would make. Great teams don't make kids starters after 2 good games.

You did hear that Pap is already confirmed for 2 more starts, right? game 4 against the Angels and the Game 2 against Detroit in Fenway

No, actually I didn't hear that. I guess they'll be using the next 2 starts to figure out if he's ready or not so basically they're doing what I said. Good stuff, like I said earlier, hopefully he's able to throw 2 gems and win a spot in the rotation.

Seems like a good idea to give Papelbon a couple more starts to see what he's made of. Of course, considering they're supposed to be keeping tabs on his innings, he'll probably not go deep into either game, which makes Jeremi Gonzalez that much more important in the long relief role. Also, it forces the starters around him to pitch deeper into games because you'll probably need 4 innings on the day Papelbon pitches.

Unfortunately I've missed both of his starts so far this season, but the numbers look good. He had a bunch of walks in his first start but seemed to keep that under control in start #2.

He's in good hands with Tek. I believe he'll do well.

I just can't give up on Wade Miller though. He was so good in Houston and he's still recovering from his arm injury. Like others have said, he just may need some pitching to get it back to where it was, so we may not see the real Wade Miller until next season (I think we've got an option on him).

In a must win game, if I had to pick either Wade Miller or Jon Papelbon, I'd have to go with Miller (assuming he's healthy). He's got more experience in games like that and also just more experience getting Major League hitters out. But Papelbon's got a very bright future and should be able to help this team out down the stretch whether it's starting or in the bullpen.
