Just heard on WEEI that according to Jerry Remy (9:30 am ET) there will be other BIG names revealed who have tested positive for steroids. Im guessing that Remy may have mentioned this in his Remy Report. Is anyone else concerned that maybe a few of our beloved RedSox players may have been on the juice? Do the other Big names maybe involve Jason Giambi? (Who has been on a tear)

Looking at current Sox players I would say that none of them appear to be on steroids. Johny Damon is a pretty cut guy but reports indicate that he has been tested three times this season, so I guess he is safe. Other than that I guess you could speculate Kevin Millar may have been on them at one point a few years back. Millar has gotten bigger, more out of shape, and his production has dropped off the face of the planet since the new steroid policy was introduced.

Here are his stats breakdown:

2003 25 HR 96 RBI .820 OPS

2004 18 HR 74 RBI .857 OPS

2005 4 HR 40 RBI .736 OPS

Not to mention his physique changed from a Baseball player to a Beer League softball player.

What do you think? Who do you think may be on them, who do you think these Big Names are? Concerned about anyone from the SOX appearing on the list?

Discuss.

The worst part of this whole steroid thing is that everything ultimately leads to suspiscion. I'm not going to accuse anyone of steroid use (except Jason Giambi, that bastard) until they test positive. We can no longer accept a slump as a slump, or a streak as a streak. Everything is now either because of steroids of a lack thereof.

The more I think of it, the more I think MLB should implement a no-tolerance policy. You test positive once, you're banned for life. There's no way this would stand if Kenny Rogers can successfully have his suspension reduced, but its still a better idea.

I dont think any of the Sox are on them. If you look at them you would be able to tell rite away. Some of them are just good players naturally, and others might be big, but its not like they are big because of muscle. So i dont think they are.

It would be funny is Sheffield was on them after what he said on Quite Frankly with Steven A. Smith. Red Sox players that could be on steroids...

Wells, Varitek, Ortiz, Schilling.....oh wait no....they are just fat

Varitek Fat? You may want to get your glasses checked. Varitek is pretty lean. I am actually shocked you would put him in the same category as wells. :dunno:

Who do you speculate may or may not be on the juice? It always seems like it is the unlikely people, but Remy did say that rumor is that BIG names are announced and have already tested positive.

I would like to think that none of them are on it...i want to say that they are all just THAT GOOD ;) ....but you never really know, people can surprise you when you least expect it.

And for the record...Veritek is NOT FAT.

I don't think anyone on our team is to be honest. They're all very good, but they're streaky and they're not extraordinarily good. Guys like Manny have a natural talent and don't need steroids and they're always good.

And for the record...Veritek is NOT FAT.

He weighs the same as Ortiz...and is 2 inches shorter haha.

Hey I like having a fat team...better then a steroid injected clean shaved bunch of homos....zzzing

...speaking of homos....Embree gave up another HR yesturday hahahaha

ok, ok, you got me there, but he's nowhere near the catagory of wells....

Barry Bonds had more natural talent than most players would ever dream to have, and he felt the need to cheat. Good players, bad players (manny alexander comes to mind a few years back), it doesnt matter. Big league baseball players cheat plain and simple. I have to admit, i would be extremely pissed if someone on our team is caught cheating, but Remys interview on EEI mande me nervous.

Everyone on the Sox seems so happy, no steroid mood swings. Ortiz is too cheerful, Manny wouldn't even know how to take steroids, Schilling is a warrior, Arroyo weighs less than my finger, Varitek is the least likely of anyone in the league, Mueller again weighs less than my finger, Wells lasted one day on the subway diet....

The only person I could really point to MIGHT be Gabe Kapler but he has always looked like that for as long as I remember him being in the league.

Why do we even want to mention our Sox. Nobody here , myself included, has any inside information. So starting rumors about our guys is foolish. It can only be a distraction and for that matter a potential defamation of his character.

I didnt start any rumors about anyone. I was simply reitterating what was said by Remy today on WEEI. Personally I think Millar may have been on something at one point, obviously not anymore. I am more nervous than anything that Remy said that BIG NAMES have tested positive and will be released in the upcoming weeks. I am just hopeful that nobody on the sox is cheating (and I really doubt they are, they seem more old school than anything).

AHHHHHHHHH Yeah Varitek weighs the same as Ortiz because Tek has tree trunk legs and a muscular physique, and we all know muscle weighs more than fat. I love Ortiz but hes a fat bastard. Again, I cant believe Tek can be mentioned as one of the Sox "fat" players. There is a difference between having muscle mass and being a fat ass.

schillingisthenatural that post made me laugh a lot.

tek aint fat...

I just a tape of the homo run alan gave up...wow..into the monuments..it was a classic embree shot.

Everyone is neglecting to mention a certain RF who beefed up substantially over the past few years (see pictures from 98-99) and who is extremely injury prone.

I love the guy, he's one of my favorite Sox, but I can't help but wonder...

I think we'd be naive to think that NOBODY on the Sox has EVER taken steroids (didn't we have Canseco for awhile there???). This is a plague and a cancer to our game, but one that makes a lot of sense. These guys will do anything to get that little extra edge (or, more accurately they would have done anything when it wasn't specifically illegal).

Sorry to spoil anyone's pristine picture of sox baseball, but I'd say we're lucky to get out of the steroid scandal without any sox being implicated. That aside, we'll be lucky if Manny Ortiz Nomar and Pedro all come away clean.

gabe has been a fitness freak and health food kind of guy forever and has dealt with the steroid question a million times--and he says no..I believe him.

from the globe: shaunessy

So what about it, Gabe? Ever use steroids?

"No," he said in a phone conversation Wednesday. "Of course, the suspicion is something that I've had to battle my whole career. There's been accusations and finger-pointing and whispering along the way.

"I've never been offended by the questions. But I'm offended when I'll say, `No,' and then someone will say, `C'mon, you don't have to lie to me,' or `Yeah, right.' That's when I get bothered."

He's not talking about reporters' questions. He's talking about conversations with teammates. Those of us who cover baseball have had our heads buried in the ground for years on this issue. Most of the steroid conversations have taken place between ballplayers, when the reporters are not around. Kapler knows.

"You'll hear from a player who heard from another player that you are a steroid user," he said. "That's what bothers me. I'm most concerned with my peers and their point of view.

"Because I've been accused so much, I never point a finger at somebody unless I know for sure. And the only way I know for sure is when someone tells me they're using steroids. Over the years, I'd say there's been a few guys who admitted it. There was a guy I played with in the minors. He told me that in college his best shots would never quite make it out of the park. Then he turned to the steroids and he said that within a month and a half, he was hitting balls 20-30 feet over the fence. When your strength is that far superior to other guys, you have a greater margin of error if you don't hit the sweet spot.

"There was another player who told me he was using and I asked him what it felt like and he said, `It makes you feel 10 feet tall and bulletproof.' That tells me a lot. This is a game of confidence and if you go up there feeling 10 feet tall and bulletproof, you are going to be a better hitter. I heard a lot of stories about guys who stopped taking steroids, started to stumble, then went back and before the steroids took effect, started doing well again. That's the confidence factor.

"I think every player in the league has been offered, or been told about a place where they can get steroids . . . I understand the human body pretty well. I know the human body doesn't do things that some of the human bodies we've seen are doing. Your bones don't grow. Muscles can grow, but when you see somebody whose facial features have grown, it opens some eyes."

What's a big name exactly? They were saying that Ryan Franklin was a "big name", and I seriously doubt the average fan knows anything about Ryan Franklin. It's most likely going to be someone in the major leagues, that is on an active roster, but doesn't do anything worth noticing.

I have always wondered as well about Trot Nixon. Hasn't anyone noticed where his injuries occur? In the legs, and when injuries happen down there it usually is a runny nose for steriods.

But right now? I would say no. Trot Nixon isn't that dumb.
