Ok lets take a look at what Renteria has done in his career.

4 All Star Games

2 Gold Gloves

3 Silver Sluggers

Can people get off Renteria's ass, it's tought to come to a place like Boston and just immediatly pick up like you have been going. Sometimes you have to give him a year to get used to playing there.

It's like A-Rod last year with the Yankees. I'm not going to say he had a bad year but he struggled compared to what he ususally does. Give Rent some time.

Nobody will take Renterria at 10 mill over 3 years (after this season is completed) especially with the numbers he is putting up this year. Renterria is a fine ballplayer, but not at 10 million dollars. Comparing Renterria to Arod is an unfair comparison, Arod is the best player in the game, Renterria is maybe the fourth or fifth best SS in baseball. And dont be so fast to say "we shoulda signed Cabrera over Renterria" because Renterria is putting up better offensive numbers thus far. I wouldn't say Renterria is worth it, first of all because no baseball player is "worth" 10 million dollars or 25 (Arod) but I think that the sox will not be able to deal him unless they are willing to eat a huge part of his salary.

he doesnt need time, he's doing just fine..

he won the game last night for christ friggin sake and he's been hitting. the fielding, you know who cares--until it really costs us a game I dont.

He is starting to hit-pretty consistently, he has been clutch and he is a tough, gritty and stoic kinda of guy. I like him.

The guy may make alot of errors but who says Hanley won't do the exact same thing. I'd rather go with Renteria who I know is ready for the Major Leagues then with a guy who has been playing AA ball all year and may not be ready for the big leagues just yet.

Good post, thanks for ending the Renteria bash.

Cry me a river. That's just it, Boston is a pressure city if you can't handle it don't come. The same goes for NY. Many careers have ended because guys can't handle the pressures here. Well you know what, those are the guys who don't produce in the playoffs too.

Renteria...he's doing fine now. Does he look affected by the "pressure" here? NO. He's not the worst shotstop in the league, and he's being very productive here.

Now, answer me this, noonanberg and guybo:

1) The only thing you seem to have on him is the number of errors he makes. Other than that, I don't hear anything else. What else is against him?

2) Who would you rather have playing shortstop?

Heh, know it's a different league and don't have his stats here, but the Cardinals acquiring Eckstein in the SS three-way definitely worked out for them. Seems like one out of every three games, Ecks is makes a huge contribution either with a squeeze at the end, a big hit, or something. Good to see. :)

Renteria isn't horrible. He'll adjust to the "pressure", but I don't even see that being a factor now.

That's why it's called *gasp* a four year contract. Stop talking you spoiled rotten bandwagon fan. You look at a player and see im not hitting over .300 without 30 home runs and all of the sudden "Oh my god he f***ing sucks, why did you sign him Theo". Listen to this, just because bostondirtdogs.com crucified him, and for whatever reason made Cabby out to be God does not mean it's true.

EDIT: By the way Renteria is 3-5 with two singles, a double, an RBI, and 2 runs scored. Bitch.

23 errors is most in the MLB

10th most Ks in the league among SS

3rd most GIDP among all SS

Larussa called this one right on the money:

"I think it takes a special type to play in Boston. Somebody who really likes the attention, Not being able to hide will really bother Edgar."

Whenever Renteria does something good, you can't be happy for him, you always have to find something negative about him and be pessimistic. How can you still say he sucks, when everything he's done with the bat recently has been anything but sucking? Go away, you're ignorant, and make Johnny Damon's brains look good.
Posted
Ok I'll admit he sucked early on in the season but he's really hiting his groove in the past few months. He's 20th in Runs scored, a huge jump from where he was before. Runs scored is the goal for a number two hitter.

A nice stat in the world series for the marlins, one of the games had him hitting the walkoff win. By the way I was at the game today and everyone went crazy when he stepped up to bat because they all knew he can connect the ball with that bat and um yeah he didnt disappoint with RBIs in the game, and f***in 4 for 5

Ramirez isn't ready yet and Renteria is a clutch hitter. All of those who doubt him and want him to be traded will change their mind in October. Renteria is the man

I think you would say the same thing if the team your SS went to swept you in the World Series. Larussa was just being a suck ass because Renteria wanted to win.

Well, Renteria could have easily won in St. Louis as well. Going into this season the Red Sox had more questions than the Cards, I believe. We were wondering how Wells and Clement would fare, and Miller when he returned healthy. Would Tek still be a solid catcher? Were Payton/Vazquez suitable replacements for Roberts? How much would the loss of Kapler affect us? The only real question that the Cards had was: How well would Eckstein cover Rent's tracks? They added Mulder to their rotation and obviously with that offense, they can make any pitcher that's pitching for them look good. I think Renteria left because he wanted a better deal on a team that had the potential of winning. Obviously, all these questions paid off for both teams, but imagine if they hadn't? Edgahhhh would have been better of in St. Louis.

This has never been a question for the Sox. He is now and continues to be the finest catcher in baseball. Maybe the best of all time- he's making a statement every game.

He left to get paid. St. Louis has the potential to win- after all they went to the Big Show last year. He came to Boston with dollar signs in his eyes.

I love Tek, but I hesitate to put him in the best ever catagory ( Bench, Fisk, etc. ). Renteria did get a good contract ( as well as he should ), but I'm sure there were other considerations. Like going to a team that could win it all, the Red Sox fans, etc.

Posted
Yeah, he did get a good contract, $40 million over 4 years -- but St. Louis was offering him $36 million over 4 years. So it's not like he wouldn't have gotten a big contract elsewhere. There had to be other considerations.

I understand that STL has the potential to win. My point was that he left to cash-in, while at the SAME time looking for a place to continue to win. He left STL because he wanted to get paid, but still wanted to win, and Boston's a perfect fit. I don't mean that he left STL because he didn't think they had the potential to win, obviously they do. I meant he wanted this combination: more $$$ + winning (boston) = Rent's new home.

That statement proves to me that you have to be 11 years old. Best of all time? Carlton Fisk, Mike Piazza, Johnny Bench, Yogi Berra, Gary Carter, the list goes on and on. Varitek has had himself a good career, and is by far the best catcher this year. But best of all time? Not even close, he won't even be considered for the Hall of Fame, let alone the best catcher of all time.

Yes detroit was offering him in the same vacinity as the red sox, not as much though.
