hey ill take this in 2006: 1st base- Paul Konerko/Aubrey Huff 2nd base- Tony Graffanino 3rd base- Kevin Youkilis Shortstop- yes- unfortunately, I will be forced to accept- Edgar Renteria The jury is stillout on Graff, if you look at his career numbers he's not been a steady and good player. So far he's been great with the Sox, but how long until he turns into the same Graff who's been kicking around the league from team to team since '96 with a career .266 avg? He hasn't played more than 100 games since 1998. I like most of the rest of the infield. I hope Graff has turned his career around and this is the beginning of a great thing.

You lose. Millar plays only 3 position, LF, RF, and 1b, and he sucks at all of them. He is a liablity in any defensive area. Hell, he is a liabity at DH. Edgar Renteria can play 3b or maybe even 2nd if he was asked. He was even offering to move positions of Hanley Ramirez in the future. Even the hitting stats make you look like an idiot, Millar has a lower average, less home runs, less runs, less RBI's, maybe even a lowe SLG% too. Wrong again dumbass. Millar has played 3 positions, only has a handful of errors, Renteria plays only one position (he has only played one position) and can't play that position for s*** with 22 errors- Millar is a much better fielder this year. You can't say Millar is a liability at 1st when you can't back it up you f***ing fool. As for hitting, besides runs, it's really too close to call, but that's because Renteria is batting in the 2 hole. This is countered by Millar hitting into half the double plays. Millar owns in OBP and errors. Everyone's argument that Millar's glove is worse than Renteria is delusional and clearly not watching the same clusterf*** SS I am.

Too early to tell with Graff. Playing in Boston is not like playing anywhere else and only time will tell if Graff can handle it long term. As for Hanley, it really depends on how he does when Sept call ups are announced and how he does then (assuming they give him a shot).

There is no replacement for the best leadoff man in baseball, only plugs to shove in CF. I hope Caveman doesn't wear pinstripes next year because I know Georgie boy is salivating at the thought of covering his OF woes with Damon

Griffey won't stay healthy. The worst thing you can do for your team is to bring in a guy who will spend half the season on the DL. Of course I support Millar and slam on Renteria. Millar in 2005 is a better player. Don't coment here, take it to the Millar vs. Renteria thread in the Fights & Crap forum I'll be posting in a minute.

What amazes me with this thread- in fact this entire board- is that everyone is so quick to slam Millar, a member of the World Series Championship team, a member of the team which broke the curse and gave us 2 of the most exciting seasons any baseball fan has ever been treated to. Yet, everyone is so quick to defend others players who weren't with the club during the last 2 years and do much less OVERALL for the team. It's puzzling at best. I really hope Millar stays with us, he is a terrific player because of what he does for the entire team on & off the field. 2004 stats- avg. .297, OBP .383!, 74 RBI from the middle/bottom of the order, 18 HR. He did K a lot. He only commited 9 errors with a good FLD% (in the .980s or so among 3 positions). But what is even more important and something most guys cannot bring to a team is what he provides as a clubhouse guy and a great team player. In a team sport a good team player is valuable. Stop slamming on Millar, you all who have been slamming him just don't know what we have in Millar. There is a reason the Sox won a World Series, it comes down to the players- all of them.

Upside on Konerko- a ton of power and a terrific glove at 1B. Downside- he is not a big RBI guy and IMHO he's not a clutch hitter. He has 30 jacks, but only 77 RBI with Podsednick hitting ahead of him stealing bases left & right. 16/30 of his HRs are of the solo variety. RISP he's hitting .240, his average overall is .271. He has a great OBP at .368. He's Ks a lot too, with 77. Also, he;s going to want to get paid like a premier 1B, when he can hit for power, but not avg. Can the Sox afford his contract? Personally I hope Millar comes back because of all that he does for the team.

Though not from the YES network, one of my favorite lines from a Yankee fan was during game 4 of the ALCS last year when that idiot McCarver said that "this game is a testament the machine that is the New York Yankees" just before the most historic comeback in the history of sport. He had the Sox dead and buried and was performing last rites and the patient was still at bat...

Clemens was a Yankee- it's pretty well known that the Yankees do WHATEVER it takes to win, including cheat- so it's very possible he picked up the needle while in the Bronx. So far the team with the most admitted and known roid boys is the New Roid Yankees. This past year has been the worst in Yankees history with the true nature of the Yankees being exposed. It's about goddamned time too.

Oh you mean they already are- at 12???? Or are you just that young? I was rooting for Maine all the way since I live just a few miles from Westbrook. There was one kid from that team who was 5'9" and weighed in at 210 lbs! He could have beat me up and I am almost 3 times his age. That pitcher was awesome- hitting in the 60's and pitched a CG 3 hitter (IIRC). If this is the future of the Red Sox then we are in for a few more World Series titles in the upcoming decades.

I hope Millar stays. He's a great team guy, he's versatile and fields questions from the media when no one else wants to (which is necessary since reporters are going to ask questions and not all players want to talk to them). While not a stellar ball player, he has the intangibles that make a winning team.
