Red Sox have just made their second deal by signing another pitcher off of waivers, correct me if Im wrong but wasnt I hearing a lot on here and WEEI that Yankees would try at least to prevent any such deals

Red Sox signed LHP Matt Perisho to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Pawtucket. Perisho held lefties to a .207 average last year, but that figure jumped to .346 before the Marlins sent him down two months into this season. If he pitches well for Pawtucket, he should be added to Boston's pen for the final month.

The Red Sox signed reliever Ricky Bottalico yesterday. The 35-year-old right-hander is expected to report to Pawtucket tonight. The Connecticut native was designated for assignment by the Milwaukee Brewers on July 27 after posting a 2-2 record with a 4.54 E.R.A. He has spent 12 seasons in the majors with Philadelphia, St. Louis, Kansas City, Arizona, the New York Mets and Milwaukee.

I think I heard something about, oh please let me be wrong, Terry Mullholland also coming to the Sox in the next day or so. I really hope thats not true. I don't want Theo to just go grab a Lefty reliever just for the sake of getting one.

Haven't heard anything like this. He certainly hasn't been released, he pitched for the Twins (against the Red Sox as a matter of fact) two days ago (on the 7th). This guy would absolutely have to pass through waivers unless the Twins DFA'd him too, and even then they'd have to wait 10 days I believe.

These pitchers suck, that's why.

lol I have to agree. I think Theo is just hoping someone pans out. We do need a lefty in a big way...hopefully Remlinger can take care of it but if not we need someone else. Perisho may be the answer but I don't know. We can't leave all the lefty duties to Mike Myers.

That reminds me of a certain other AL East team. Adding a bunch of veterans, hoping at least one pans out? eek. The thought terrifies me.

New York is too preoccupied with its own problems right now. Starting pitching might pan out if Small and Chacon keep it up, and Wright is fairly effective; still waiting on Leiter. Relief is an issue (Torre!), and CF is a huge hole. GAPING.

I think the yankees just gave up. :dunno:

nope, sorry

we didnt place a claim for Remlinger because as it is we already have WAY too many old, useless pitchers. And from how hes been there so far, not claiming him was the best thing we could have done.

you often complain about Torre and Mel. What would you like, do you want Joe to go out there and be a battery mate with Mel. Is that the relief tandem you're looking for. It is not Mel's fault that most of the pitching staff has been bad this year. A good percentage of players who have played under Mel say he is a fabulous pitching coach. Looj what he's done with Chacon and Small. Wheres the credit for that? Granted, Torre wore the pen down last year, but had no choice, he got burned every time he brought someone in other than Sturtze, Quantrill, Grodon, or Rivera. The same applies this year, he has gotten burned with everyone else. He's doing the best he can. And though I dont agree with him when he left Embree in, had Rodriguez, Gordon, Sturtze, or Rivera given up the home run he would have got burned and everyone would have said "It's because you're waring them down", "Why didnt you bring in a lefty, Konerko's numbers against lefties arent as good as against righties", etc. Hes in a no-win spot every time. No matter whose on the mound, if we lose, he is always going to be second guessed. So I am curious, since you are always criticizing Torre and Mel, how would you run the pitching staff?
