Sportscenter said we just got him for 2 minor leaguers. i have no clue which ones, but i hope they weren't good because Cruz sucks. What do we have like 4 backup OFs now??

Oh and by the way...poor poor Adam Hyzdu.

I can't find evidence of this anywhere so I'm assuming this is just a rumor.

Cruz Jr. isn't that bad BTW

It's not just a rumor. It's the REAL deal.

The minor leaguers actually do suck though.

We can't give up on Stern yet, he's a beast. And plus if we package Lastings Milledge and him we can get DUNN...OKAY!

Yep, saw that too on SportsCenter, Youk.... but ESPN pisses me off and I couldn't even focus on what they were saying. They saw PAWtucket every damn instance... do they not know that it's pronounced like P'tucket? C'mon ESPN, you're in Connecticut for crying out loud, you're not across the country.

They only care about New York.

Can someone please find some details if this is a real deal?

He would have been great in '01 as a backup OF if he stayed in Seattle....

No harm really in this deal. Unless Perez or Bono turn out to be something.

I think this is a pretty good deal. He had as much production last year as an average year from Trot Nixon. The only bad thing about this trade is that it's going to take ABs away from Gabe.

This guy is hitting .213, with 54 K's amd 42 walks in 202 AB's, an OBP pf .347. It looks to me like a Bellhorn clone.

But Jose Cruz is good, he got power, and it seems like alot of deals going down lately, we're getting better.

Cruz is a decent hitter...

The 31-year-old Cruz is a career .248 (999-for-4,028) hitter with 208 doubles, 30 triples, 187 homers, 563 RBIs and 102 stolen bases in nine Major League seasons with the Mariners (1997), Blue Jays (1997-2002), Giants (2003), Devil Rays (2004) and Diamondbacks (2005).

And a great fielder...

A Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner with the Giants in 2003, Cruz has topped 20 home runs five times, including four of the last five seasons. He registered consecutive 30-homer seasons in 2000 and 2001, and joined the 30-30 club with a career-best 34 homers and 32 steals for Toronto in 2001.

But why did we need him exactly? We're gonna have as many outfielders as second basemen pretty soon haha.

Who knows how long Nixon will be out for so this just adds some depth. Plus Cruz may be as good of an option if not better than Stern/Kapler. This also gives us the opportunity to give Millar more days off.

then wouldn't stern have to be offered back to the braves? what about gonzalez? and I couldn't see papelbon being here more than a week, since miller is scheduled for wednesday, and clement for either thursday or saturday.

Cruz is a decent hitter, he hits HR's against righties, and that's all the Red Sox will want him to do. Considering Kapler and Millar blow against righties, this is an ok pickup.

As for his fielding, Cruz's great fielding disappered last year, when he was exiled to play for the Devil Dogs, he's more opt to win an Iron Glove this year.

As for Bono and Perez, none were that good either. Bono was an 8th round pick, with 3rd round talent, he had a knack for throwing strikes, but he went all Rick Ankiel on the mound, and didn't throw as many strikes as he used to. He still may be something if he can throw strikes

Kenny Perez is a utilty infielder who does nothing good. He's Pokey Reese at the plate, and Mark Bellhorn in the field.
