Manny is not in the lineup because of all the stuff that is whirling around, it was Terry's desicon, and a guy on espn news said that Danny baez and Huff have are going to different teams, so it appears the trade is dead

I highly highly HIGHLY doubt that's why he's not in the lineup. If you're not trading him he should be in the lineup.

My old man just informed me that he was watching ESPNEWS and reportedly the Mets and Red Sox have now worked out a deal and it is close to being done. No D-Rays involved, and I'm pretty sure Boston would also send $15M in addition to the Mets for some reason. He heard it, not me, but ESPN is a valuable source.

heard it on espn radio...might not be too bad... floyd is .272, 23 homers, 62 RBIs, not the same pop in the lineup but it save money to resign damon and muller...not too bad :dunno:

Ramirez to Mets deal 'hanging by a thread'

Manny Ramirez may still become a Met, but he won't have to get there via Tampa Bay.

The Red Sox and Mets have agreed to stop working on an intricate three-team deal with the Devil Rays, and now have begun talking only with each other, according to an official of one of the three teams.

The current deal being proposed would send Ramirez and about $15 million in cash to the Mets, in exchange for Mike Cameron and the Mets' top prospect, Lastings Milledge. But the Red Sox are believed to have told the Mets they would need more talent back to sign off on the deal. In the meantime, however, Boston is calling other teams to see if it can move either Milledge, or Cameron, or even both, in deals that could help the Red Sox address multiple needs.

With all those details yet to be worked out, and the clock still ticking toward the deadline, the official said that while there was "still a chance" of Ramirez being traded, the trade was "hanging by a thread. I wouldn't say by a noose. I would say it's hanging by a thread."

As the Mets and Red Sox talked with each other, the Devil Rays turned their attention to other deals. According to executives of two teams that spoke with the Devil Rays and White Sox, those two teams were talking about a major deal that would send both Danys Baez and Aubrey Huff to Chicago in exchange for a package of three or four top prospects.

According to three baseball men familiar with the three-way conversations, the original three-team involving Manny broke down over a dispute between Boston and Tampa Bay. The Devil Rays were insisting that Boston trade both its top offensive prospect, Hanley Ramirez, and its top pitching prospect, Jon Lester, to the Rays. The Red Sox were balking at including both, and they were unable to bridge that gap.

The Red Sox, Mets and Devil Rays had managed to revive a proposed three-team blockbuster, at least temporarily, by early Saturday. But by 2 p.m. ET, an official of one of the three teams was describing the trade as "close to dead."

Under the proposed deal, the Red Sox would have acquired Mets outfielder Mike Cameron and pitcher Aaron Heilman, and Devil Rays outfielder/designated hitter Aubrey Huff; the Mets would have received Ramirez, Devil Rays reliever Danys Baez and shortstop Julio Lugo; and Tampa Bay would get four prospects.

In fact, the official several times referred to the deal in the past tense, also said at one point that the teams were "out of time" and, at another point, that "I just think it's not going to work."

Hasn't this been so for a while?

Good. I'm all for trading him for equal value, but there is none right now. Get pitching if anything.

Manny is a man full of mood swings. He gets whatever he wants in boston. Now all of a sudden he decides he doesnt want to play until the after the trade deadline? What is he afraid of more boos? I think him getting out of boston would be the best thing for that team in the aspect of who wants to deal with his bull crap for the rest of the year? Im sure the whole team including Francona are sick of hearing his complaining. Although without Manny, ortiz has absolutely no cushion and all he will see for the rest of the year is intetional walks and he will be absolutely USELESS to the red sux. I for one would love to see this because it would show just how stupid Boston would be for letting him go.

Even you boston fans cant deny that Manny is one HUGE complainer and he gets everything handed to him on a platter. Pedro Martinez was the same way! They let him get an extras days rest, leave during away games to go god knows where! Francona and the whole entire Red Sox staff let their own players walk all over them.

All I know is he did the same thing last year and won a World Chamionship, so I'm not complaining. Different things work with different teams, having a players manager though frustrating for fans at times appears to work with this team.

I can already tell I hate you, go away.

I am glad to hear that there won't be any deal at all involving Ramirez, mainly because I think that Chuck LaMarr (Devil Rays) and Omar Minaya (Mets) are a couple of sheisters - which is putting it nicely. Manny Ramirez is far more talented than anybody mentioned in the group and these guys are trying to get both Ramirez and the Red Sox top prospects for relatively little in return, because they think they have the Red Sox stuck in a bad situation where they "have" to trade Manny. I'm glad if Theo doesn't give in.

If the Red Sox really want to trade Manny, do it in the off season when there is no pressing need, but leave the Red Sox top prospects out of it. The Red Sox should be getting a lot just for Manny or he can just keep playing right in Boston. He has cried every year about being traded and he still will hit, because of his own pride. The Red Sox need to deal from strength, not desperation.

We're getting by alright as is and will only get better when Foulke and Nixon return, Schilling gets healthier, Bradford and Gonzalez shake off the rust and these young guys for the bullpen (Delcarmen, maybe Hansen) get some work. The current bullpen of Gonzalez, Delcarmen, Timlin, Schilling, Myers and maybe one of these released guys out there will work for now. The present Sox still have as good a chance as anyone to win it all. If they have to trade someone, how about Shoppach & Millar for a decent hitting/fielding 1st baseman/outfielder like Huff or whoever. If they don't trade and don't win this year, they are in a lot better shape than a lot of other teams for next year - would you rather have the Yankees problems?

David Wells on postgame show: "I love Manny a lot, hes my boy and I just think the world of him. Its just that in some games as the last game we played against Tampa and with him refusing to Tito not to play even though we were losing Trot to the DL, that was just really selfish of him. Hes gotta know that puts us in a big bind him going onto the bench when we really need him."

Johnny Damon "Yeah, that Tampa series was a whirlwind of events. The boos hear at Fenway for Manny, well most of them really are deserved. We wont get that far without Manny on same team, the stats he pulls in four team is trememndous, but at same time he has got to realize he needs to step up for his team. This whole privacy issue is another thing I dont understand, whether you are in New York or Kansas City, people will know who you are, everyone by now knows who the Red Sox players are after winning the World Series. Still thru and Thru, we will have Manny's back.
