I am glad to hear that there won't be any deal at all involving Ramirez, mainly because I think that Chuck LaMarr (Devil Rays) and Omar Minaya (Mets) are a couple of sheisters - which is putting it nicely. Manny Ramirez is far more talented than anybody mentioned in the group and these guys are trying to get both Ramirez and the Red Sox top prospects for relatively little in return, because they think they have the Red Sox stuck in a bad situation where they "have" to trade Manny. I'm glad if Theo doesn't give in.
If the Red Sox really want to trade Manny, do it in the off season when there is no pressing need, but leave the Red Sox top prospects out of it. The Red Sox should be getting a lot just for Manny or he can just keep playing right in Boston. He has cried every year about being traded and he still will hit, because of his own pride. The Red Sox need to deal from strength, not desperation.
We're getting by alright as is and will only get better when Foulke and Nixon return, Schilling gets healthier, Bradford and Gonzalez shake off the rust and these young guys for the bullpen (Delcarmen, maybe Hansen) get some work. The current bullpen of Gonzalez, Delcarmen, Timlin, Schilling, Myers and maybe one of these released guys out there will work for now. The present Sox still have as good a chance as anyone to win it all. If they have to trade someone, how about Shoppach & Millar for a decent hitting/fielding 1st baseman/outfielder like Huff or whoever. If they don't trade and don't win this year, they are in a lot better shape than a lot of other teams for next year - would you rather have the Yankees problems?
