hahahah this is priceless.....

Sports Illustrated surveyed 450 MLB players asking if they'd rather play for the Red Sox or Yankees. Nearly half - 47 percent - said the Sox, 40 percent chose the Bronx Bombers, 8 percent said neither and 5 percent said they didn't know. They didn't know? Obviously the Sox don't have an exclusive on the Idiot thing.

The 5% might know once the two teams start a bidding war on them?

Actually on a general note, I think STL's the best place to play. The atmosphere is just great (any Sox fans here go to Busch for the WS?)...they don't boo players when he strikes out; they don't even boo their opposition - will even throw in applause if they make a good play. Most knowledgable, polite fans in baseball, IMO. :)

Leave some players for the teams west of the Mississippi, will ya? I think even some star players like Edmonds and Pujols (he's not leaving!) have taken pay-cuts just to stay there. In that sea of red...one half chants "PU", the other "JOLS".

There's that Cubs-Cardinals rivalry, too, with the Cardinals having a pretty illustrious [winning] history. OH WELL! :harhar:

^ Yeah, I'm amnesiac about 2004 WS, mmkay?

haha....i dont know which 1 id play for if i were them...cuz the yanks have gorgeous players...but the sox have manny and hes adorable...so idk

^ Oh, ok, you're speaking for yourself. I was gonna say that I don't think a player care about how handsome his teammate is...

High-maintanence vs. low-maintanence; how far will you compromise?

Hey, fans in Seattle don't boo. Oh, they have to be knowledgable also? Well then I guess STL would be better!

It's the little things too; applauding when a batter fouls off five pitches in a row, laying down a nice sac bunt, etc. Wherever there's credit, they'll give it its due!

Aww, tough to be fans of the only AL West team that figures not to contend for a postseason bid. They actually booed their own pitcher when he walked Palmeiro in search of his 3,000th hit...cameras flashing, and than a walk!

If you play for the Sox, especially if you're an outfielder, you can hide in the Green Monster when it gots hot. ;)

A-Rod story (he sure does get it from his old teams): I heard that some Mariners fans would hold out fishing poles, with a dollar bill through the hook whenever he came back...

who cares

HEY! The Yankees can't get behind in the free-agent market! What else can Steinney do to lure players to the Big Apple?

Grass is sometimes greener on the side that doesn't include Yanks-Sox; it's certainly more pleasant. :)

SI polls are not scientifically-valid, I presume. Greatest Player, according to 450 players surveyed.

Carlos Beltran? One NLCS and that's it? At least Jeter has the intangible rings here! <_>

What is with this infactuation with Yankee fans believeing that Jeter is the greatest player in the game?

Jeter isn't even the best at his position on his own team, he shouldn't even be considered to be the best player.

Heh, at least we don't boo good players. I remember you Yankee fans booing Mo. Hmm...

Sizzlin: I was joking! :D I sarcastically meant if postseason only need apply, then Jeter trumps Beltran in that department.

I was referring to Cards fans not booing anyone. Those weren't Yankee fans who booed Rivera. Get it? At worst, you can say that he blew one World Series, cost us the opportunity of winning another one - but that's still what, 2-4. I'll take it.

Other way of looking at it - they booed Jeter too when he was in that slump - it's NY, it's just tough love.

STL's still the place to play! They even gave Renteria an ovation upon his return. "Should we boo...should we...nah, let's be classy about it!" :)

Although Boston would by far be the only place I'd play I do agree that STL has wonderful fans. My dad first pointed this out to me when we visited this summer. Kinda sad to see Busch go because It is a very fun stadium and they have the most respectful fans.

Then again, what would baseball be without a little rowdiness :)

But as for NY..I couldn't hate going to Yank stadium more. My few experiences have involved some pretty jerky people and in particular, this one really loud drunk guy that acted surprised as hell that I actually booed A-Rod.

PSYCH! :D Doubtful he'll pitch in Fenway...unless he returns in pinstripes, which most likely will not happen - and I don't *want* that to happen. Stay in Texas for some credibility. Steinbrenner could've used that Hummer money to get another lightening-in-a-bottle pitcher, though. ;)

Oh we know you love your baseball, not trying to insinuate that all Red Sox fans are jerks. However, this is just the ultimate sign of respect from BaseballOutsider.com :

Where else would you see the extraordinary devotion shown to hometown hero Willie McGee? After becoming a Cardinal legend with his performance in the ’82 World Series, McGee was traded in ’90 only to return in ’96. The Cardinals’ fans proceeded to give Willie the ultimate sendoff…honoring him with a standing ovation for every at bat from the time he returned until his eventual retirement…four years later. They may not be as loud or long suffering as some, but make no mistake about it….these are baseball fans, in the purest sense of the word.

Cards-Sox fans speak out in SI Forum.

Hey, I'm all up for fun...however, when safety is jeopardized and there's desecration of public property, there's just no excuse. :thumbdown

As a college basketball fan - Maryland fans need to get a life, as does Michigan State.

You probably wouldn't think I'm not much fun to go to a rock concert with...but I'd like all my limbs in tact, thank you very much. :D

Now, if I said I was a Cameron Crazie...it might contradict my stance on nonviolence, but I don't mind a VERBAL jab or two. ;)

One day, I shall be more creative in choosing which sports teams to root for...

Is that a shot at Duke fans??? :thumbdown

'Cause that aint right, loudest fans in college basketball. Cameron Crazies, wild bunch that know their basketball and fun to watch a game there (never been in person), but on TV it gives the game another element that nobody else has (and every one else tries to copy :harhar: )

^ No, I alluded that I am a Duke fan. Nvm. They have the most interesting, witty chants. Definitely more original than, "Yankees suck", that's for sure. <_ it quite funny how terp fans will do just about anything to be taken seriously by duke. not our rivals.>

Hey, I want JJ's number! Apparently Dick Vitale says that Redick sure can "stroke it" - go figure.

Oh UNC, this is our year!

My bad we had one Yankee fan come here and say that and he got slaughtered.

Actually -- there was a good article sometime last year about the downfall of the Cameron Crazy's and how lame their chants have gotten. It also mentions how the Cameron Crazy's are considered nerdy, even by duke standards.

But that's neither here nor there. Back to the topic at hand -- and my two cents on what Canseco said. While Jeter is not the most overrated SS ever... he's very overrated.

Last time I checked, he has the most rings of any active shortstop.

Isn't it even a more remarkable thing, then, to be a "bad" player and play on championship teams? Leon Lett made some of the most ridiculous blunders, and he yet he still won Super Bowls. Rather an enigma isn't it? :dunno:

Oh please. Team accomplishments don't make a good player. So that argument means absolutely nothing. By that theory, we could conclude that Dan Marino is a poor player for having never won. Some players are put into good situations, Jeter was one of them.

Yes, Leon Lett was a "bad player" -- he was only a two time pro bowler (In a league in which such an honor is decided more-so by players and coaches, than by fans) and was a cornerstone on those Championship winning Dallas Cowboys defenses.

In reference to his blunders -- the Super Bowl one took place in a 52-17 game. Boy, he really put the game in jeopardy with that mistake.

I'm not saying he's a bad player -- but ESPN over reacts to everything he does. Like every single one of his defensive plays which are constantly blown out of proportion.

*sarcasm filter off*

CHILL, will ya? B) Doesn't it benefit you if Jeter's not that great of a player? He's the shortstop of Yankees, I'll live. Watching Manny in the outfield certainly is entertaining.

Lett also touched that "dead" ball...lol, not knowing the rules on special teams. Btw, don't you Bostonians just love to dangle those rings in front of Peyton Manning?
