The Providence Journal reported the Red Sox have interest in Roberto Hernandez. A 40-year-old pitcher with a 1.73 ERA in 41 2/3 innings this season, Hernandez could help bolster a woefully inconsistent Sox pen. The Journal reported that the Mets will not deal Hernandez unless they fall out of the National League wild-card hunt; they're currently five games back in that race.

They wont deal him unless they fall out? Are the Mets serious? Do they really still think they have a chance to win that division this year?

I don't really know much about this guy but if he's as good as his ERA is then he'll be a welcome addition to the sox bullpen.

Omar Minaya wont trade him, Omar loves this guy, he saw something in him in the winter and decided to sign him to a contract to pitch in his hometown despite the fact that hes been horrendous the last few years. Robby loves pitching for the Mets, his favorite team growing up, and loves pitching for Willie Randolph. And as I said, OMar loves him, so dont look for The Mets to trade him unless the deal obviously benefits them.

I know its ridiculous as he'll probably retire at the end of the year and isnt exactly a Tom Gordon/Mike Timlin/ Jeff Nelson(in his heyday)/Akinori Otuska kind of guy, but he is coveted by the Mets.

Billy Wagner -philly.com

But Wade is in a tough spot because his two best trade chips - Howard and Billy Wagner - are crucial to the success of the very team on which his job may ride.

Wagner would be attractive to teams because he's a top closer with the innards to handle big-game pressure. His contract is also up at the end of this season, which would make him a nice fit for a team like Boston, which still has a long-term commitment to Keith Foulke.

But what would happen to the Phillies' postseason chances if they dealt Wagner? Ugueth Urbina is a closer by trade, but the whole idea of getting him was to give the Phils a two-inning hammer at the end of games. Letting Wagner go would weaken the Phillies, even if they got a decent starting pitcher for him

I am not excited at all to hear this. When he was a Tampa Bay Devil Ray, I went to a few games just to catch some baseball (Yes I know I watched another team besides the Red Sox, I apologize), but the few times I did see him, he got lit up like a candle. He was awful and I hope we don't get him. He was put into pretty much every game I went to and I knew right away that the Rays would lose, which wasn’t a problem because I was a Red Sox fan. I feel bad for the Mets just for having him, even if he is pitching well right now.
