This guy is a flat out dirt dog, he'd put that ball in play in the 7th, and score the run. Bellhorn strikes out way, way too much, and never comes up with a big hit. Bellhorn has no range, he only makes the routine plays.

Pedroia has walked 59 times, and has struck out 39 times. He's struck out 39 times in 120 minor league games. Bellhorn would probably reach that in 13 games.

Not to mention the fact that this guy is near flawless with the glove, he's got great range, and makes all the plays.

This guy walks more than Bellhorn, he strikes out far fewer times then Blowhorn, and he's better with the glove. We can ease Pedroia into the lineup batting him 9th (though he'll be a great #2 hitter).

I agree....he is good enough to hold his own in the majors no question. The team around him is good enough to pick him up when they need to. His bat would be well served at the end of the lineup and a gutsy tough player is exactly what this team needs to get going.....he can hustle and make a defensive play that would pump up the team. He would need to jump right in though because I wouldnt want him sitting on the bench not getting any at bats

very so, plus like stern he gives the sox another "dave roberts" type of speedster--tito did last night what he shoudlve been doin a lot this season, callin in a pinch hitter for bellhorn, too bad tho gordon got olerud to ground out though

Yeah too bad for that.

I don't know that Pedroia is ready at all. I can see him self-imploding in the majors. But I do know that Bellhorn needs to step up 'cause even I'm getting tired of it.

hahaha if you are getting tired you know he is struggling. IMO he did have the biggest at bat last night where he just needed to get the ball to the outfield....and didn't....you could see Torre knew it was a big out as well.

I don't see Pedroia coming in and self-imploding simply on the fact he works hard...if you do that you won't get too caught up....obviously you can expect errors but EVERYONE on the Sox makes errors

I would expect him to struggle at first, but I don't see this kid imploding. He's handled every level with professionalism so far. Like Crespo said, he puts the ball in play. He's walked more than he's struck out everywhere in the minor leagues, and good strike zone judgement is something you can't teach. That usually bodes well for future success.

This guy's a David Eckstein type player, and honestly I'd welcome his energy. Like I said in another thread, perhaps what these Dead Sox need is a little youthful enthusiasm.

Soxie-- any chance you find this guy attractive?

I decided to look at Bellhorn's last 3 AB's in late games, I only looked at losses, cause I can't fault wins.

5. 6th inning Mussina (NYY) strikes out Bellhorn with two on, and one out. 7/14

4. 8th inning Benoit (TEX) strikes out Bellhorn with two on (1st and 3rd) with two out. 7/4

3. 9th inning Batistia (TOR) gets Bellhorn to pop out with the bases loaded, and 1 out. 7/3

I'd say Mark Loretta, because he has much more pop in his bat than Eckstein, but yes his energy is almost an Eckstein clone

Bellhorn is hitting .218. Now that is a definate problem. hes not scoring runs or driving them in. I really hope they do something soon. No matter what pedroia would do better

Honestly, can offensive production out of the 2B position be any worse for this team? Even if the kid struggles for bit, and I don't see him doing it because he has performed quickly at every level, he's not going to be worse than Bellhorn at the plate. Plus he's a better fielder. Easy decision in my opinion.

Stat from ESPN's coverage of last nights game. Bellhorn is hitting .171 with RISP, worst in the AL with a minimum of 40 AB.

Jon Valentin is on the Dale & Holley show, and both him and Dale Arnold project him to be our starting 2nd basemen on Aug. 15. I agree with this predictions.

Aug. 15 is too long, call up Pedroia now, how about Pedroia up and Schilling down.

In all seriousness, we could be out of the playoff hunt by then.

I say give Schilling some time to get accustomed to his new role, because there's PLENTY of other players that could be sent packing to make room for the kid: Bellhorn, Millar, Halama, Millar, Embree, Millar......Jeremi Gonzalez perhaps.

Tito has too much of a love affair with Millar or Embree to send them down, I do like the sound of sending Halama down now that we have Bradford.

Don't knock Schilling. It was one outing.

I said it was a bad idea from the start, and what happened, the guy comes out faces two batters in a tie game and gives up two runs, I would have rather had Foulke in that situation at least there is that slim chance that he can get a guy out.

This team is way too talented to fall that flat. They won't fall out of the playoff race at all.

Schilling got effing hammered last night, but in all fairness, he came in to his first MLB action since April against 2 of the best hitters in the game. He wasn't on his game last night and anytime you're not on your game those 2 guys are going to hit you hard.

I supported the Curt move to the bullpen at first, but the more I thought about it the more I realized we need him as a starter real bad.... I would not be opposed to sending him back to Pawtucket to get himself stretched out and ready to be our ace again.

That being said, 80% of Schilling is still better than Embree or Halama.

How 'slim' we talking? Anything thicker than saran-wrap, and I'd say you need to check your meds.

i say give schilling a chance. you have to give him at least a week to adjust to the new role. besides who the hell else is going to be out there right now? embree?-joke. timlin has not been good lately. i dont see any other alternatives right now. i agree. 80-90% schilling is the best we have for now. he will adjust, he is too good not to.

A 100% Schilling has mid-90's heat with location and a deadly splitter. An 80-90% Schilling has at most low-90's/high-80's FB without much movement. In other words, an Embree meatball.

Can't be worse than what happened last night.

for those getting on Schilling....

I can understand where you come from....the guy makes his first appearance in the majors for months....goes into a role he hasn't been in for a long time...tied ball game with the biggest rivals and there best two hitters are at the plate....how the hell would you do???? give it a rest you s*** heads and lay off Schilling
