MLB is afraid of Sheffield

I am convinced that the league is afraid to punish Sheffield. First off, he gets two games for taking an absolute tantrum for being called out at 1rst base against the Mets last week, while other players are given 4-6 games for tirades much less aggressive than that. Second of all I don't care what anyone says, the big baby over reacted totally when the fan at Fenway reached over and grazed his hat. Sheffield leaned in to the stands and threw a shot at the fan and the league applauded him for his restraint?????!!!!!

 

Meanwhile as usual MLB not giving a damn about it's fans who support the game were very happy when the Red Sox brass kicked the guy out of the stadium for a season and revoked his season tickets. as a matter of fact the league encouraged the Sox to ban the guy from the park. There most defnitely seems to be a bias from the leauge when it comes to discipling the Carl Everett of the Yankees. It will make it that much better when he really does have a total meltdown and then the league will realize the mistakes they made by never giving him a stern punishment in the past.

Well I agree with you about the fact that he clearly tried to swipe at Sheffield. Everyone else was bending over for the ball and his arm was towards the top of the wall. Arroyo hitting the D-Ray was probably on purpose too.

 

But him hitting A-Rod was not. That was a total overreaction on A-Rod's part. Bronson is known to be wild which is why he leads the league in HBP, there was no history between the 2 so why did A-Rod start jawing at Bronson?

You're talking about a different subject here. We were talking about restraint, and you go and start playing the blame game. Anyway, I too agree he shouldn't have even TOUCHED Sheffield. I went on in my post about how Sheffield overreacted, NOT that every single fan thinks that dude was innocent. You need a poll to figure out that people hate Sheffield? Do you think the Brewers pitchers, whom he criticized for not protecting him, liked him? Or Bill Spiers after Sheff said he only got the SS job because of race? And while it's not teammate related, do you think the guy that grazed him with a bullet liked him? Hell, I bet Kevin Brown, whom he crticized in LA hates him -- but fortunately, I don't believe Brown throws his teammates under the bus like Sheff did by calling Giambi a crybaby.

 

And you know the fans hate him -- or did you turn a deaf ear to his being booed louder than everybody but Kenny Rogers (And really, it only took assaulting cameramen to steal the crown of 'Most Hated: ASG 2005' away from Sheffield)? I'll give you this one. As for you, BrentD22 -- stupid question. Why on earth would you think a Yankees fan would care about a players character and off-field issues so long as he produces on the field? As for him 'playing to win the game' -- every man on the Red Sox 'plays to win the game' -- it's needed to overcome seemingly impossible odds as they did last year -- and they didn't have one guy in that lockerroom that carried the type of baggage that Sheff does.
