How to own YANKEESRULE:

Statement: "We swept the Cubs who destroyed you."

Response: Kansas City Royals

Statement: "We swept the Pirates, you won 2 of 3."

Response: Tampa Bay Devil Rays

Statement: "We play the Rays which are a different team than when we played them last while you go play the hottest team in baseball in Cleveland."

Response: Red Sox sweep in four games in Ohio while Yanks allow the Devil Rays to put up 21 runs in 3 games at the "almighty" (snicker) Yankee Stadium. It makes it even greater that today's starter is a guy named Wang, as well.[/quote

How to own you: just stick c cow out in field and let you loose on it. Hey we are still only 5 games back.

hey yankee fan quit filming your gay porn and come to rescue your yankers from the mighty devil dogs. they are getting killed...............that being said. i still believe it will come down to the last month in the east between the sox and yanks. although if schill gets rolling in the next couple weeks...schill, clement, miller, arroyo, and wells/wakefield could get scary for the rest of the league if they all stay healthy. and that was some clutch hitting and pitching (from foulke) last night. hell of a win. keep it rollin boys!!!!!!

Hey I stopped the gay porn a while ago. LOL. We didn't lose a ny ground from first. Don't worry we still have plenty of time.

Yea the game when Henn pitches may be the lost. You guys have a really tough series coming up too. The phils are tough at home. I hope the Phils win that division this year.

"i think yanks and redsox will both pass o's in 2nd half and will gun it out for divsion."

The Yankees are done. They're set to face a few competitive teams over the next week (yes, I do mean Tampa Bay), so they're going to slide further into their pit of quicksand.

Maybe next year.

Don't count them out... don't forget the Astros last year... sounds like they are looking to aquire Kotsay... I think that would help 'em out quite a bit - if for no other reason than to get some energy/youth/speed/defense on the team. Certainly no Beltran deal, but I think it could be a big help.

I'm with Matt. As fun as it is to witness the Yankees struggling mightily, they are still only 5 games out of first place despite their struggles. With the talent and resources they have available to them, it is not unreasonable to think they could get back in it. Of course, Johnson and Pavano HAVE to pitch better, and they need solid contributions from their #4 and #5 starters (Wang has been decent so far) to do it. They can still score runs despite the declines of Williams, and Giambi.

Keep in mind that last year's World Champs played .500 ball for over two months last year. All they've got to do is put it all together and they can take off.

Do you guys honestly believe that they have the team to make the playoffs?

Pitching: Their #1 starter is in his 40's, has no cartilage in his left knee, back troubles and has lost velocity and bite. Their big offseason free agent signing was very league, park and defensively lucky in '04, leading to a decieving ERA while his DIPS was really around 4.00. Mussina has become a nice #3 starter. On this team, he's their best (not good). Kevin Brown is back on the DL and sucked when he was off it. Wright hasn't come off it yet. Wang walks more guys than he strikes out, which is an indicator of future shellings. Mo, while being dominant against the other 28 teams in the league, cannot pitch against us any longer. Flash Gordon has been good, but after that, any one of those guys can be touched up for multiple runs in an inning at any time. Sturtze, Quantrill, Groom, Stanton? Give me a break.

Offensively: They have the American League's best hitter in A-Rod. I won't deny that. Jeter is a very good leadoff hitter. Sheffield is playing very well and deserving of an All-Star spot. Matsui is heating back up of late. Posada has been steady, but not very good. So, they have five above average hitters and then four gaping holes, no matter which platoon combo they have fill it. Cano? He's no savior with his sub-.300 OBP. Giambi? 'Roids screwed him up bad. Bernie? Been done since '02. Tino? He had that ridiculous homer streak for two weeks and hasn't hit since (he's done). Womack? Worst everyday player in the last century (Tom Verducci of SI backed me up on that one).

Defense: Posada is well below average at throwing out runners and blocking the plate. Tino is below average at first -3 FRAA. Cano is a train-wreck at second. Jeter, despite winning the Gold Glove last season, Jeter is -1 FRAA (Fielding Runs Above Average). A-Rod? -11 FRAA. Again, trainwreck. Whether it's Matsui or Bernie, they are both well below average. Womack is a second baseman playing the outfield. Sheff also is -3 FRAA.

This team is an absolute $200 million dollar disaster. There's no denying it. They are horrendous.

For comparison's sake, the only Yankee with a positive FRAA was Womack in LF. Red Sox with positive FRAA's: Varitek, Millar (who's surprisingly good), Olerud, Bellhorn, Mueller, Trot, Youkilis. Surprisingly, Damon has been slightly below average; it has looked like he's lost a step or two and he's never had much of an arm. Renteria's been horrendous, though. He's an A-Rod-esque -11 FRAA.

Here's a quick and dirty explanation of the stat. It's based off of FRAR (fielding runs above replacement), meaning how many runs per season better a guy is than a fringe major leaguer. So, a number for an average, not fringe, major leaguer is determined based off of that. A 0 FRAA is an average major league fielder, meaning he didn't cost or gain his team any runs defensively. Anything above zero means that the team saved runs when he was in the field and anything below zero means that player gave up runs defensively.

I'll use Varitek as an example. He's 12 FRAR and 2 FRAA. That means that based off of that number determined by the math geniuses at Baseball Prospectus, Varitek is 12 runs better than a fringe major leaguer and 2 runs better than the average everyday so far this season.

Beleive me they will make the playoffs. I'm sick and tired of Sox fans saying our team has no heart and chemistry. How do you know ? Do you work in there clubhouse? Your team was going through this the same time last year and you guys won the whole show, so don't even think for a second that the Yankees are finished. That's just hope thinking that the Yankees are done with still more than half the season left and only 5 games off the pace.

I just gave you statistics as to why the Yankees are finished and you come back with the same old tired "yeah, we do have chemistry" ********. I don't doubt the Yankees have chemistry; I've seen the looks that A-Rod and Jeter pass back and forth as they stare longingly at each other's buttocks. We've all also seen Sheffield try to finger Jeter's ******* in a picture. I don't doubt the chemistry. What I do doubt is their ability to play above average baseball statistically.

How can you even talk after what Zenny just wrote. Hell, even I thought the Yankees weren't dead, but after reading that their cooked.

Once again - don't count them out. I don't think they'll make the playoffs as is right now, but I don't doubt for one minute that they'll make a couple moves here and there to potentially strengthen the team.

I won't believe they are truly out of it until I see E on the standings.

Don't forget, we were what 9 games back of the yankees quite late in the year and had a real shot at winning the division last year. Baseball is a crazy sport... don't count anyone out until they are eliminated.

I don't think he's really gay actually.

Yankees are different than the Sox. They don't make comebacks.

You know, its funny you mention that... that was part of the reason the Yankees had such a good record last year (I think better than the team they had). They set a record for come from behind wins.

This year, they aren't coming from behind like they did last year - and I think that is a major reason they are in the doldrums right now. They are coming back in games on par with everyone else, where as last year they were coming back WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than any other team.

You also think Posada is a great catcher.

P.S. How's this years team working out for you? Playing teams like the Devil Rays pretty often, I'm sure it's going great.

Not sure if that's a question or statement. how many rings does Posada have that should answer your question right there. oh how many does your catcher have...hmm one and ours has 4 and 2 American League rings. Sorry competition is over, thanks for playing Tex!

Idiot.

Varitek 2005:

G	AB	R	H	2B	3B	HR	RBI	TB	BB	SO	SB	CS	OBP	SLG	AVG
2005	61	216	35	67	13	1	12	30	118	21	52	0	0	.378	.546	.310

Don't make arguments based on how much jewelry someone has. Posada's last one reads "2000."

Rings = great team, not great catcher. Check the last 100 WS winners and tell me how many have had GREAT catchers (hint: not that many). Having a ring doesn't make Posada a great catcher... christ, the backup catcher gets a ring too... does that make him great if he has 4 rings?

You're going to have to come up with something OTHER than "rings" if you want to talk about how great a player is. If you want to talk about how great a team is/was - fine, we can have a chat about rings... but not individual players.

wow, 4? So that makes Andy Dominique 25% as good as posada.

How many rings a player has doesnt mean s***. Rings=Teams.

all I hear on the radio is Yankees this, Yankees that.....meanwhile you chowderheads have forgotten the Orioles...they have a fine team, better than the Sox or Yanks this year. So keep distressing about the Yankess, it shows an inferiority complex toward them...meanwhile watch the Orioles kick your ass... :harhar:

I'm not really nervous about either of those teams at this point.
