The Official Positive Sox Thread

With all the struggles we are having, and every thread being about something we've done wrong, I thought I should start one of these. We all know that the bullpen is dreadful, Manny and Ortiz are in a slump and we still have Millar and Bellhorn on the field so here's a look at some positives that I could find:

 

• Renteria is starting to hit again on the road
  
• Tomorrow's starter Matt Clement is 5-0 with a 3.34 ERA
  
• In Mantei's 20 appearances this year, he's given up 16 hits on just 4 runs
  
• V-tek, Damon and Nixon are all hitting over .300 (.329/.340.310)
  
• We have a very good future looking at our minor league system
  
• In 14 starts, Myers have given up only 2 runs (both in G2 at OAK)
  
• Arroyo's 3.19 ERA is astounding
  
• We're not Yankees fans... we WON'T quit on this team
  

 

If anyone has any more to add that I missed, please do so.

I take offense to that the Yankee fans give up on our team. The true hardcore fans do not and never will. Its these young bandwagon jumpers that have never even been to new York that do.

Yeah that's true, but a typical Yankee fan doesn't care as much. Loyal fans are hard to come by, therefore not making them "typical."

Sorry if you take any offense to that, but please go post on another thread that involves the Yankees while us Sox fans try to find something good when we've just played about 13 games of crap.

These new Sox always suck in May and June. We'll pick it up, we just need a fight in July.

 

Damn, I remember when we used to be that team that was always so hot at the middle of the season and the wheels just came off in August and September. After last year, everything just changed... Wow.

It seems that most players in our lineup have been in slumps so far. They are all coming at different times and once Renteria comes out of his....Manny jumps into one. Once Mueller starts hitting....Ortiz falls into a little slump. Eventually it will all come together.

 

Pitching....we do have three young starters who are looking good. Forget that game Miller just pitched because he will get it figured out. So Clement, Arroyo, and Miller. Plus someday we will get our ace back. If we can just scrap for some wins and stay in the mix....by the later part of the season I think we can make a big run.

Yes I post on the Yes boards, But I love baseball. I have 4 loves in my life, My Family, My Girlfriend, Film and Baseball (Yankees). This is the greatest rivarly in all of sports and its so damn fun. we have Sox,Mets, and O's fans on our boards. That's why I post to stick up for my team and make sure you guys arn't getting out of hand. I admit Me and Sox fan in Tex have had our arguments in the past and I wish I could take back some of the stuff I've said. I love Baseball and that's why I'm here.

I guess to me, I don't mind it because it kind of adds some more rivalry for us. When we win, we let him know, and when the Yankees are winning he'll tell us. I guess if you live in Jersey like him, you want some other view points besides the ones out of New York, so I guess naturally you find a Red Sox fan board (just a guess).

• We have stretches like this every year. Last year, you recall, we were swept in Yankee Stadium around the All-Star break and were 8 games behind them.
  
• The offense is in a terrible slump yet we still knocked around RJ last night pretty good. He is to us what Pedro was to the Yankees - the ace you can beat.

• I'm blacked out for this afternoon's game and you are not. - last time that happened was the Arod/Tek fight last year. hmmm

I think the Red Sox should trade Manny and Ortiz. They are both getting old and tired looking so why not get some youth out there while you still can. Damon is a FA next year and the yankees are going to sign him so u might as well trade him too. The only thing positive I see out of the Red Sox is that they still have something worth trading.

Ortiz is 29 and Manny is 33 in 2 days. They aren't old, they're just semi-struggling like much of the team. The answer isn't to always trade our best players, like some yankee fans would have you believe. We have a lot of quality youth (fine, a moderate amount of quality youth) coming up from the minors in the next few years. A mix of vets and younglings (sorry, I just saw star wars yesterday) is what we need.

But back to trading Manny and Ortiz.......

 

First, Ortiz as mentioned earlier is only 29. He's also locked up on the cheap for the next few years. Are you nuts?

 

Second, trade Manny? If I'm not mistaken, the Sox tried to give him away two years ago and nobody could take the contract. So a trade, unless it's another bad Cashman trade by the Yankees, is not going to happen.

 

And Damon has already stated he will not go to the Yankees because it would hurt his image in and outside of baseball. He's just playing the Boras card.

Here's a positive - the Sox just got 27 hits today, scoring 17 runs. The Yankees scored one, and Clement was dominant. Olerud is going to be an awesome addition to the team. There's a couple for ya.
