I'm going to give Mark Bellhorn a lot of props for what he has said since being on the DL.

http://www.redsox.com has the story and quotes of what he mentioned...

I like his attitude of trying to clear his head and get back on track. Those strikeouts and "boos" really built up and he needed to get away from everything. I still have hope for Mark Bellhorn and he plans to fight for his job. That means whoever is playing 2B is going to give it there all which is everything you could ask for. I always liked the idea of players fighting to stay alive on a team.....really shows who has the most character and can rise to the occassion, kinda like the playoffs last year when Bell and Damon went into a funk. Mark Bellhorn appears like he wants to do it and is ready for the challenge...now he just needs to get it done. As horrible as he's been this year, I would take Mark Bellhorn of 2004 over Tony Graffanino/Alex Cora anyday.

....I would love to see this attitude come from Keith Foulke as well

dude im just trying to make the point he has been getting on base, 6 times now in his first 3 games with 4 hits, RBI, a Run scored, and getting on base by being hit by pitcher and fielder's choice--just 1 strikeout in his first 11 at bats

if bellhorn can come back and play like he did at the end of last season, he should start. thats a big IF though. But the one thing i like about TONY G is that he doesnt strike out nearly as much as bellhorn. He gets on base and thats important for a number 9 hitter.

Bellhorn-109 K's in 84 games (48 walks) BA-.216

Graffanino- 28 K's in 59 games (23 walks) BA-.302

id like to see a platoon with tony g starting against rightys and bellhorn against lefties. cora would be a good late inning defensive replacement

Fielder's choice plays don't count as getting on base since you replace the previous baserunner.

besides he was still considered a baserunner in the game, bar none if it doesnt go on his stats on paper--and from previous post I wasnt excusing Schilling for his outing, he is doing a great job as in the closer role, in 5 games his ERA as relief pitcher is just 1.80

even if its a fielders choice, at least hes making contact and putting the ball in play unlike bellhorn who is almost guranteed 1-2 strikouts per game

Don't get me wrong, I've been calling for Bellhorn's head in favor of someone who defends well and puts the ball in play, aka Tony G. I love the upgrade. I was just pointing out that from a statistical standpoint, he's been on base 5 times.

exactly, yes if bellhorn comes out of the gate he was like in 2004, I'll course welcome him back. But really the stats are bearing down on him as well as the games I go to, fans seein him this season slouch over in their seats because they know whats gonna happen, and hes got to change thir minds about him. Good that he had went on the DL, so get away from the boos and recollect himself, for July his stats dont lie compared to Tony G's

July

Mark Bellhorn, 13 games

5 hits for 43 at bats, double, HR, 2 RBIs, SB, 6 walks, 23 strikeouts

Tony G, 11 games

9 hits for 33 at bats, double, HR, 5 RBIs, 5 walks, just 5 strikeouts

The only thing I really like about Tony G over Bellhorn, because Bellhorn does get on base, is that Tony G puts the ball in play more often than not, which Bellhorn had trouble with.

i totally agree with you about Bell. and i fully appreciate what he did last post season. BUT this year, over a hundred strikeouts. and his batting average is poor. Graffy will fill his spot nicely, with a high .200 average he'll move the runners.

If Tony G can avoid striking out every other AB then I'll be just tickled pink with him. I think that just taking out the frustration of watching Horny strike out twice a game will be enough.

You know, it's really nice not worrying if someone in your lineup will strike out now. Can Bellhorn stay on the DL for the rest of the year now? Because if Terry takes Bellhorn and his (insert batting average here) plus 1215402431619 K's over Tony G's .300 BA and twenty-three (I believe) strikeouts I might go crazy.

bellhorn will probably get his spot ack when he gets off the dl just because. but tony aint doing too bad in that position. so even if they switch off it would be cool.

then good thing we don't have to understand him. he gets paid the big bux to make decisions for the team. honestly tho, if bellhorn didnt strike out as much he would be fine. defensively i can't really complain about him. when he actually hits the ball i really cant complain either, just getting him to hit the damn thing is like pulling teeth. he said he didnt want to swing at bad pitches. so for some reason he doesnt liek to swing at the good pitches too.... so sad....

I have no further complaints about Mark Bellhorn.

Good stuff but here is the thing...you cannot compare Derek Jeter to Mark Bellhorn (please!). Was Bellhorn big for us in the playoffs..YES!. He came out of slump to help us win a few games with big HRs. I've focused on Kevin Millar and Alan Embree most of the year but will always remember Embree for his game 7 fist pump. I will remember Millar as Millar obviously. I loved the team last year and what they all did....however.....this is not the team from last year

Pedro, Roberts, Lowe, Meintkewicz, Reese, Leskanic, Cabrera, Embree...will all be remembered from that team along with the rest who are present....

There will be another hero, there will be more victories, the Boston Red Sox will move on with or without players and where Mark Bellhorn left off last season....someone new will crush one another day. I will still cheer for them and hope they come out of it and play well....im cheering for Pedro to win the Cy Young and if Arroyo was traded I would cheer for him to lead the Marlins or whoever.

I hope Bellhorn snaps out of it again but if he doesn't....how long can you wait before you need to move along??

People don't even give him a chance. Booing someone on your own team is just rude. I had a huge problem with Yankee fans booing Derek Jeter. After all he did for them, just 'cause he was slumping? I have the same problem whenever someone here is booed.
