Don't get me wrong, I know Bellhorn has had some huge clutch hits since he has been on the team but he remains too much of a weak link to be in the lineup every game. You can't have a player in your lineup who will automatically K 3 times a game if you expect to be a world series contender.

I would like to see Bellhorn stay with the Red Sox but only in a more limited role. He should come off the bench or play once every few games much the same as Millar should be used. Billy Mueller should move to 2nd and Youk should be the 3rd basemen. Youkalis would be an upgrade offensively to the struggling Bellhorn.

Once again. These kind of posts drive me CRAZY.

Bill Mueller is not a 2nd baseman. He will not play 2nd base. He does not like. It will result in injury for him. God. Get your facts straight before posting nonsense.

HAHA.....has Irish Jay gotten the internet geeks dander up? If A-rod can make the switch from shortstop to 3rd base after playing his whole career at short surely the Sox can work something out.

Mature. Call me names.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Bill CAN play 2nd but his knees can't take it. Do you know anything?

A guy who strikes out a lot is not necessarily the type of bench player you want. That makes him a liability as a pinch-hitter. Not fast enough to be a pinch-runner. And I don't think he has the range to play short as a middle infield bench player. I don't see him on the team by the begining of next year.

Why is everyone being so harsh on this guy? This is a good post. Sure, it may be a bit old hat but:

1. It's formatted with paragraphs

2. Spelling is correct

3. Punctuation is used

4. Things are capitalized

That is all. :)

But Yeszir, you just can't accept such shorthand as 'K' instead of 'strike out'.

If we want to get picky, World Series ought to be capitalized. And he misspells Youkilis. Unacceptable since they run that Youkilis/Announcer boy commercial where Youk spells it on camera on NESN twelve times a game.

And that's quite possibly the most original thing I can say on this well tread topic. As far as unoriginal thoughts go, I think that part of the problem with Bellhorn was alleviated when Cora came in. Not that Cora is good enough to split time with Bellhorn, but he's at least someone you can put at 2B if you need to pinch hit for Bellhorn in a situation where putting the ball in play is critical. (Not to suggest that Cora ought to be the pinch hitter either. Just that now someone else can pinch hit for Bellhorn and Cora has you covered as opposed to putting Mueller or someone else out of position and sacrificing defense.)

And for those looking for the glass half full approach here: you know your team is pretty productive when arguing over Mark Bellhorn is the most frequent complaint that you hear about your lineup.

Who do you consider a 'decent alternative?' Please don't say Kevin Millar.

Better safe than sorry. Who would you rather have pulling a groin extending for a ball Millar? or Ortiz?

Bellhorn's on base percentage is .330 for this season.

Which means he reaches base in 1 out of 3 at-bats.

Pay him 3 million and shut the f#ck up.

Oh and he has walked more times than any other player on the team.

More walks than David Ortiz or Manny Ramirez.

So shut the f#ck up.

When I was in the Marines I learned a saying, "You can't polish a turd". So try and spit shine Bellhorns image all you want, but it basically boils down to that concept. Put any spin you want on it, but a guy who leads the league in strikeouts while slugging only .353 is a turd.

Oh, and the reason Bellhorn leads the team in walks is because he can't the f***ing bat off of his shoulder. Half of his 106 K's are looking. 49 walks, 53 looking K's. He just fishing for those walks. Even a blind squirrel finds an occasional nut.

I know Soxie, but that's what message boards are for. If you are sick of everyone's angst for Bellhorn, don't read the thread. The endless discussion about his performance will continue to be just that, endless. Hell, even if he turns it around there will be those saying "I told you so", endlessly, and those who refuse to change their mind, endlessly. Dontcha just love the internet?

To say Mark Bellhorn is slumping would be an understatement.

He went into last night batting .187 since June 1, with more strikeouts (49) than hits (23) and walks (21) combined. After striking out two more times in his 0-for-3 effort last night, he is now hitting .105 (4-for-38) in July. Jul. 16 - 9:30 am et

I think Bellhorn has value and will turn this around but I think we should give Pedroia a call up and get him in the lineup every couple days and see how he does.

If you aren't going to play Pedroia every day, or at least 4 out of 5, that will slow his development. If management wants to continue to "wait and see" with Bellhorn, that is fine with me as long as they give him a short leash. I don't know, say mid-August. Call Pedroia up if things haven't improved by then.

Any team will sign any player who gets on base one out of three times, and they will shell out good money for it.

A .330 OBP is pathetic when you strike out 100 times. Usually people who strike out that much hit a lot more HR's and walk more.

Look at Adam Dunn and Jim Thome for example.

They said that Pedroia will probably be up in September to watch how he does in the majors.

But Snow also said Tito and the rest of the team told Bellhorn they have faith in him and want him out there everyday. I mean look at the way that they reacted when he hit the homerun, and he was so happy. You can't say you weren't happy for the guy.

He told Snow he takes too much of all this home and he just keeps getting worse because he keeps worrying about it more and more.
