well dude sorry i was looking at stats on yahoo! mlb

No need to appologize, I thought the same thing when I looked at their offensive production stats. So, I decided to dig a little deeper and see if there was a downside.

i still think we need an upgrade at second, cora is a step up from that stiff smellhorn, but we should still better.

I dont care about OBP or the walks..100+ strikeouts is disgraceful for a little putz like that.

he has very little range, too.

I think mark is fininshed in boston, thank God.

I can't believe Bellhorn still attracks this much hate considering this team has much bigger problems.

Millar's gotta go

We need a closer

We need to improve the bullpen

I wouldn't mind another starter.

Bellhorn's strikeouts are alarming, and his offensive contribution has been minimal, but second base is still priority # 5 in my book.

Hahaha. Better at defense? Yeah. That's why he shielded himself from the slow popup like a little 8 year old girl.

Lets see Cora is rated a + 3 in the FRAR which means he is a good defensive 2B, and he has made 3 errors this year, (0 at 2nd)

Bellhorn is rated a 0 which means he is average, and he has made 7 errors this year (6 at 2nd base)

Cora's range factor is 5.37, Bellhorn 5

Care to try again?

Blah blah blah. I'm basing my opinion on what I saw. Which was a terrible, pathetic play. So bad it made the front page of the Sports section in the Globe. If he's so good, I haven't seen it. Not in his 2 starts at least. And hitting? Yeah let's see that first hit in a Sox uniform already.

well this is just my thinking but mark bellhorn sux all he has is about 7 really good games a year he just takes up a spot in the line up im glad they are getting a new 2nd baseman

Soxie, I think you need to make peace with the idea of Mark not playing next year. He's either going to go elsewhere via free-agency/trade, or he's going to lose the job to Pedroia in spring training.

I'm putting money on him leaving, most likely through a trade. He's just not that valuable an asset on the bench. He can't be relied on to pinch hit. While his defense is serviceable, he's not versatile enough to be a middle-infield bench player. In other words, he can't play short that well.

soxie you're blinded by love.

bellhorn makes pathetic plays at least twice a game.

he looks like ray charles at the plate, FDR in the field and he runs like bill buckner.

okay so he isnt the redsox biggest problem, but he is a problem.

we need a new first baseman, a closer and bullpen, but we also need to get some production out our of the second baseman and bellsie aint it.

Bellhorn came up in a big situation last night, and instead of coming up clutch, once again takes his three and sits down. It is so frustrating watching him play. He is simpy not a big league hitter. Pitchers know he will chase bad fastballs and watch thigh high curveballs go by. His production numbers are not close to what they were last year, his walks are down, HR's are down, and strikeouts are up. To top it off, hes been inconsistent defensively. Beisides the bullpen second base is a huge problem, Bellhorn is as close to an automatic out as Tony Womack. He is simply not getting the job done whatsoever. You can't even play small ball with him because he can't run, and is not a very good sacrifice bunter. Worst of all you can't bench Bellhorn because he is not good enough at other positions to risk having to use him as a utility infielder. The time has come to release Mark Bellhorn. We don't exactly have "someone better" than Mark Bellhorn, but in no way is Cora, or Pedroia a WORSE option. As soon as Pedroia proves he can play a decent second base he becomes the starting second baseman because ANYTHING you get from him would be an upgrade over what Bellhorn brings to the table. Its sad too because I am a fan of sabremetrics, OPS, RC/27 and Bellhorn was the blueprint sabremetrics type of player because he displayed such a unique set of skills and made such little money, however the sox are getting exactly what they paid for with him now. Time to say Goodbye to #12

I feel so bad for soxie right now, but she is right. Bellhorn is better for right now at second base. What would you rather have, 0-3 with 3 Ks and a walk or 0-4. Cora may look better, but he isnt. Bellhorn brings more than Cora. Since he strikes out alot, he doesnt ground into double plays as often as indicated in a previous post which is pretty good. I used to be a pretty big anti-Bellhorn, but I have realized his value. The only guy I would want to replace him would be Youkilis, who would be in at third and Mueller over to second. But still, Bellhorn is as key a part of this lineup as anyone for the simple fact that he can work the counts and walk sometimes. And when he does make contact, and puts the ball in play, he is hitting around .360. If all he could do was make contact a few more times, he wouldnt be bad. Yeah, he isnt good, maybe he is even bad, but at this point, Cora is even worse. The last thing we need is to tinker with something thats not broken. Tito still needs to keep showing his confidence in Bellhorn, and maybe he will come around.

Listen to El Guapo. He's right. As bad as Bellhorn is (and believe me, he's been nothing short of horrible to date) Alex Cora is worse. He's very simply NOT an everyday player. He's more solid with the glove than Bellhorn, but he doesn't even compare offensively. I know that's a pretty bold statement, but take a look at his career numbers: He's not a good hitter. Playing him everyday would expose him more to pitchers and make him look even worse.

Right now if it's between Alex Cora or Mark Bellhorn, I'm starting Bellhorn every time.

I will point out however, that a certain struggling team was jump-started by bringing in some fresh talent from the minors to play second base. Could the Sox benefit from the same?
