I don't think he should. He said all the right things right there. We don't know what goes on behind closed doors. We forget that these are real human beings, not circus monkeys who are supposed to perform the way we want, right now, or else we throw them out and forget anything good they may've done. We need to think about the team as a WHOLE and obviously they need each other.

Parts of the article were cut out. Like for example when Millar stated that he and Tek talk on the phone for hours after a game talking about how best to help Bellhorn get better. Because, he said, they're a family, a nucleus, a machine that needs all it's part to work well.

I know Millar does a lot for the team in the clubhouse, but he cares too much about his image. I mean who cares what the press writes negatively about you and if people boo you. It's part of baseball. Live with it and play the game.

He came out and spoke out about it 'cause guys like Edgar and Bellhorn won't, because they're quiet and I'm sure it bothers them too, but they won't talk about it.

And Millar wanted to make the point that just because fans are railing on and on about getting this and this guy, it's not gonna happen. What's going to happen is what is right for the team.

I disagree. If he cared about his image, he wouldn't do KFC commercials.

Bellhorn does have a good OBP, but far too many of his outs aren't productive (aka whiffs). If they can swing a trade for a decent fielder who doesn't have to hit for average but puts wood on the ball, it would be an improvement.

I dunno. I mean, the Red Sox really have no problems in scoring runs, and Johnny is certainly productive batting leadoff. I guess if Bellhorn gets on base ahead of him, Edgar, Ortiz, Manny...etc, he's useful. If he could score a lot of runs for us, that's almost as good as knocking in a lot.

Welcome to the site, BTW.

yes much better than Todd Walker's. I'd take Todd's offence any day but the way this lineup is there's no need for it and Bellhorn's got the quick defense.

And ok. He'll get better. He's slumping. Lest you forgot he basically won the game Friday night 'cause we never would've returned most likely.

lest we forget that is one game out of the entire season, lest we forget he made a key out in the bottom of ninth..luckily johnny was up next...

But you are woman enough to admit he's slumping...and thus you';re willinginesss to be objective is something be respected.

believe me nothing would make me happier than too see markie mark step it up.

he's not the only one who kills rallies. you act like everyone's batting .350 except him. Edgar is constantly grounding out into double plays STILL and killing rallies. yet no one talks about that.

Mark will step up. I'm not worried.

oh please...you were being objective but now?

Bellhorn kills more rallies than george bush kills soldiers.

edgar is hitting almost 270.

if you're going to be in love with the worst hitter ont he team, you should be prepared to listen to poeple complain--without getting so defensive. Besides when you're as s***** a hiitter as smellhorn there is only one direction to go and that's up.

Bellhorn season statistics:

G	AB	R	H	2B	3B	HR	RBI	TB	BB	SO	SB	CS	OBP	SLG	AVG
2005	63	211	28	48	15	0	4	19	75	36	75	1	0	.339	.355	.227

Now, his last 10 games:

DATE	OPP	AB	R	H	HR	RBI	BB	SO	SB	AVG
JUN 08	@STL	2	0	1	0	0	2	1	0	.247
JUN 10	@CHC	4	1	2	1	1	0	1	0	.253
JUN 11	@CHC	3	0	0	0	0	1	2	0	.249
JUN 12	@CHC	4	0	1	0	0	1	3	0	.249
JUN 13	CIN	4	0	0	0	0	0	0	0	.244
JUN 14	CIN	3	0	0	0	0	1	1	0	.240
JUN 15	CIN	4	0	0	0	0	0	1	0	.235
JUN 17	PIT	4	1	1	1	3	0	0	0	.235
JUN 18	PIT	3	0	0	0	0	1	0	0	.232
JUN 19	PIT	4	0	0	0	0	0	2	0	.227
Totals	35	2	5	2	4	6	11	0	.143

Hardly an improvement. He's lowered his average more than 100 points and struck out twice as many times as he's walked. I don't see how anyone can argue for this guy.

Also, should I merge the 2 bellhorn threads that exist?

Renteria: .267/.318/.388; EQA: .243, WARP: .7

Bellhorn: .227/.339/.355; EQA: .250, WARP: 2.4

Bellhorn has a pretty big WARP edge, but the EQA and OPS are negligible.

Let's just put it this way: Our middle infield blows, especially when you compare it to Baltimore's. Hell, even Julio Lugo and Jorge Cantu are superior middle-infielders down there in Tampa.

What separated Bellhorn from the pack last year and made him acceptable (hell, it made him pretty damn good) was the power. He hit 37 doubles, 3 triples and 17 homers to go along with the 88 walks and 177 K's (yuck).

Strikeouts do not mean a player sucks. What it does mean is that they can be extremely unpredictable from year to year if they haven't established themselves on a long-term basis (Thome, Glaus, Dunn, etc.). Bellhorn's inability to make consistent contact is what makes him unpredictable and unreliable from year to year and even game to game. It's hard to predict what he's going to do next because he can frequently be overmatched.

I think it's pretty clear with Pedroia hitting .325/.406/.498 for Portland while walking more than he K's that he will be next season's 2B for the league minimum. He already presents a clear and ready upgrade to both the offense and defense. Plus, everyone's going to love him because he rarely K's, for what it's worth.

dude i wish he was only up to 36 strikeouts. he had another mult-strikeout game last nite strikeing out twice. he has for the second straight season, a major league leading 81 strikeouts, not even halfway this season.

He has his moments, sure, but I get soooooo frustrated with the guy. It seems like every time I turn on the TV he's striking out or grounding into some form of double play. And he hit .191 in the postseason last year.

Yes, but remember his homer that pretty much saved our butts?

Yeah, Bellhorn is annoying but oddly enough I'd feel pretty disappointed if he got traded. Hm. Ha, maybe it's a just a fun gamble to see if he'll actually swing at any one at bat lol

But I guess what I mean is, he adds character to the team, and what would the sox be without character?
