I love him. I really like his attitude towards the game. He's not the best player out there but he's so sincere and besides that, he comes through in a clutch a lot of the time. Any fans?

I like Bellhorn. I think he's a pretty good defensive player, and although you can bring up his strikeout record, he can hit and take walks fairly well. I enjoy having him on our ballclub.

He has his moments, sure, but I get soooooo frustrated with the guy. It seems like every time I turn on the TV he's striking out or grounding into some form of double play. And he hit .191 in the postseason last year.

He does strike out a lot. I admit it, haha. But he does walk a lot. And before he was out with the flu he was leading the league in doubles. He won't ever hit the way JD hits or something, but I think he's a valuable player on certain levels. I just hate how a lot of people seem so ready to just write him off 'cause he's not a perfect hitter, you know?

Heh. I guess. I still like him, though. I have confidence in him and he comes through at times, really nicely. I don't think people should write him off so quickly. Not everyone is going to be a JD.

Bellhorn is a good guy but he hasnt been putting up good enough numbers to be the starting 2B for the Sox...we should have traded him for some minor league prospects and kept Cabrera to move him to 2B..Renteria and Cabrera up the middle would be a heck of a defense..And to the guy that said he was the best offensive 2B in the AL...Wow...thats saying a lot...he did make some clutch hits in last years postseason, but to say he was the best offensive 2B in the AL is just wrong...

BoSox Rule - He was only the best offensive 2B in the AL last year, so I guess he's alright.

Bellhorn gets no love - he was the best offensive secondbaseman last year. K's aren't really that bad as long as you have a decent avg. and a good OBP. Last year Bellhorn was near the top of the league in walks - and last year he grounded into a total of 6 DPs with Damon in front of him. He is a great sabermetric player because he is undervalued. He also hit some clutch HRs in the postseason regaurdless of his overall avg.

I think I would still rather have Hanley at 2B next year but Bellhorn is still the man and should remain in the lineup. Remember this guy hit 2nd last year in our lineup that scored the most runs in the league. He helped us do that so lets give him some respect.

Im not disrespecting Bellhorn at all...he's descent, but thats about it...no one paid attention to the numbers Cabrera put up in the playoffs...plus Cabrera and Renteria would work together a lot better becuz they played together in high school or college (i forget which one) Im not hating on Bellhorn, just yet..we'll see how things go for him..I HOPE he does prove to be the best 2B in the AL, but i dont see him deserving that title yet...oh yeh, thanks for the welcome message...i might be a noob to this forum..but im far from a noob in baseball talk (esp. about the Sox)

Bellhorn's true colors will show through soon enough. I mean, jeez, it looks like the whole team's numbers are down. When was the last time you saw Manny hitting under .280? Or Bill Mueller with .237, that's got to be a joke.

What I think is the team is still mentally exhausted from winning the World Series last year. For me, every pitch was a major emotional event and I am sure it was for every player as well. The saving grace in all this (all praise Theo and his amazing foresight) is that Arroyo is turning into a stud, Halama and Gonzalez don't stink, and we have some big irons in the fire in terms of pitching. While the offense may be down, so are the ERAs and we are winning.

So what's to worry about? Bellhorn will start smacking the ball soon enough. He's always been a clutch hitter and we just have not been in too many clutch situations so far this year.

Exactly. Even though all the pieces aren't performing at top ability, the team as a whole is able to win games. We can hang in there long enough. In a few weeks I can promise you the people who are supposed to be hitting will be hitting, and we won't be the worse for wear.

Bellhorn gets the Unsung Hero Award. He's the guy nobody notices, or underappreciates when they do. When you see a rally against the opponent's bullpen, thank Mark. The guy typically sees about 25-30 pitches a night himself. He accepts the negatives that come with working the count. Bottom of the order guy doing the dirty work. He's not fast or powerful, but he always seems to be in the middle of things when it counts. He worked a key walk the other night. He killed the Yankees in Game 6, going the other way for that home run. For good measure he tacked on another one down the right field line in Game 7 to head off any Yankee comeback. Then he wins WS Game 1 with another shot down the line. You can't have an all star at every position, not even for $200 million. But who gives you more bang for your buck than Mark? I usually prefer defense and speed at 2nd. Mark isn't that player, but he does so many things to make up for that, he belongs out there every night. Never pops off. Goes about his job quietly and professionally. He is the little engine that could.

Aww that's a nice description of him. Totally agree with you.

That may very well be the first time anyone has ever said "awww" on this site. Good to get some female input in here.

Haha, yes... it is. Anyways, Bellhorn was just as valuable as anyone in the playoffs last season, no reason why we shouldnt have gotten rid of him. He is probably one of the most hardworking, underrated and under appreicated players I've ever seen.

Its tough to say he is the best 2B in a league with Alfonso Soriano.

Last year, he was the best offensive 2B.

Yes, though, Soriano is great this year. Had a bit of an off year last year, but seems to be continuing the success this year that he had with the Yankees prior to 2004.

Haha am I the only girl here?

Bellhorn made an error tonight, but then he pulled off a great play and he got that RBI and did an overall good job tonight. Despite that we didn't win.

He's also so nice in real life. I've met him twice like in a personal way at Fenway, and he's one of the most humble and nice people I've ever met.

That error wasnt really his fault. Hes not used to making long throws like that for one, and also hes not used to ranging that far over to his right and coming up and having to gun the ball over.

Yeah, whatever. I'm not mad about this game. I wish we coulda won, seeing as the O's lost too, but at least they lost on a night we lost too. So whatever, now I can see a 9 game win streak ahead of us as we see the A's at home, goin to the M's, and then to the A's again. Then we can cook some Oriole and have it for dinner when we're at Fenway later in May :).

I have been attacked and accused of being the most negative fan in the world. so I will say that he gets some clutch hits, and clearly is (although apparently painfully quiet) a fearless, gritty competitor who is the consummate team guy...(if it wasnt for those friggn rally deflating K's) ..oops. I mean a tireless worker, and someone who I will alway remember for the contributions he made in last years championship season!!!..

Hahaha. That's cool. You have to admit, though, he was pretty good in last night's game. That double, that could've been a homerun if not for the wind perhaps. And he didn't strike out last night except for that one time.
