Nah. Best offense in baseball + deepest pitching in baseball = better than the Yankees.

Who ever that is, it certainly isn't the Red Sox. If you could be any less objective, let me know.

I'm not scared of the yankees. Who cares who they bring in? Last year they proved to be the biggest chokers in Major League HISTORY! Can they repeat?? Oh yes, I think they can.

I'll take the Sox chemistry and reasonable approach to building a team over a $250 million senior citizens' club any day.

I'd like you to prove me wrong.

I'd like you to prove yourself right, because as of now you are wrong.

I completely agree. I'd take our guys anyday. We are lucky and have a special team who get along, love their fans and love to play the game. They just have so much fun playing and are so fun to watch.

Last year, Carl Pavano faced 909 batters. Of those 909 batters, 694 batters put the ball in play. Against the 2004 Marlins, 32.7% of balls put in play became hits. So, Carl Pavano would've been expected to allow 242 hits, he only allowed 212. The Marlins defense saved 30 hits for Pavano.

The Cubs defense saved 5 hits for Clement.

Say you wanted to find out how many hits Keith Foulke should've given up last year. You goto to the Baseball-Reference team page for the '04 Sox.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/BOS/2004.shtml

Do this for the Red Sox team (they add all the stats up, you'll seem them)

(BFB - HR - BB - SO - HBP) thats how many balls were put in play. Then do ( H / [how many balls were put in play]

Then, Foulkes numbers were 333 BFP, 8 HR, 15 walks, 79 k's, and 6 HBP

(333 - 8 - 15 - 79 - 6) 225 balls were put in play vs. Foulke, and if you divided H / balls in play for the team you would've gotten .325.

225 * .325 = 73 hits Foulke would've been expected to allow, so the Red Sox defense saved 10 hits for Foulke. (Because he actually gave up 63)

Thats pretty cool. Baseball is awesome because of statistics like these. I wonder if you look at a pitcher (say wake or pedro) over his Red Sox career, if you'd see a noticeable difference in hits saved with this year's team and its improved defense.

ill give u RJ is a GREAT pitcher, but remember what happened last time pavano pitched against boston, o yea, let me remember, 14 runs IN THE FIRST INNING.

Pavano is a much more experienced pitcher now. (That start actually turned his 2003 season around)

Yankees have a good infield defense. Pavano only needs to get the groundballs to the left side of the infield or to first base when Tino is playing :)

doesnt infield defense involve THE WHOLE infield and not just 3 out of the 4?2b is a key position to have good D at. if there is not the same person there everday (with the exeption of rests days and stuff like that) than your doubleplay combo will be bad. defense is the most important up the middle and right now the yankees dont have that.

In a defensize comparison the Sox are better defensively in the infield. I give my reasons at the bottom

1b- If we keep Minky, edges Tino

2b- Bellhorn edges Womack

3b- A-Fraud edges Mueller

ss- Renteria edges Jeter

At first, its no contest, Minky is far better defensively. At second, Bellhorn had 61 errors in 124 games, Womack had 80+ in 133 games. At third Mueller had 14 errors in 96 games, A-Fraud had 13 in 155 games. At short Jeter has 13 with a RF of 4.46, Rent had 11 with a RF of 4.11

Remember though, Billy was playing through pain for the first part of the season. Once he came back from his knee surgery his defense improved dramatically. Overall he is a solid defensive 3rd baseman with a few bad games here and there. But everyone is entitled to have a bad game now and then.

And yes, I will defend Billy no matter what. :D

Hate to tell you 2090, but no one in baseball is afraid of the Yanks anymore.

Hate to tell you southern hick, but no one in baseball is confident when facing randy johnson, expecially shrek.

Does that make you a stupid thug because your from NY?

I dont live in the city though.

Would that make you a racist for living in Boston or even in Massachusetts? Of course not.
