Okay here we go...

Rotation:

Pedro (13)

Schill (12.75)

Pavano (10)

Wake (4.34)

Cornroyo (0.3)

Bullpen:

Foulke (6)

Timlin (2.75)

Embree (3)

Mantei (0.7)

Myers (0.7)

Kline (2.5)

Malaska/Traber (0.3)

Hitting:

C: Varitek (9) / Mirabelli (2.93)

1b: Millar (2.93) / McCarty (0.7)

2b: Bellhorn (2)

ss: Pokey Reese/Desi Relaford/Barry Larkin/Mark Grudzalieniek

(choose 2, one for ss one to back up, 3 mill between the two of them)

3b: Mueller (2.5)

of: Manny (20)

of: Johnny (7.75)

of: Trot (6.5) / Roberts (1)

dh: Ortiz (6.25)

NOTE: Youkilis plays a final year in AAA

1. Must trade BK Kim and Doug Minky for anything we can get as long as we don't pay the salary.

This totals approximately $120 million. That is $10 million shy of the threshhold. This money will be used to pay for any incentives gained, insurance, and the other expenses. It also leaves just enough room to add a bit of salary at the trade dealine if Theo sees fit.

I think this is a perfectly realistic and more importantly, succesful scenario. Our rotation improves. Our bullpen would be dirty. While our offense would decline, I'd say we could afford to do this. I don't wanna get into the whole Minky/Millar thing, persoanlly I'd prefer to dump Minky for various reasons. To me Dave McCarty can fulfill the exact same job for a lot cheaper. That said, rip this to shreads with even the nitpickiest criticisms you have...

Also, is anyone else surprised the Stankees didn't make a run at Jeff Kent?

Youk,

To be honest, I'd LOVE this team. I was one of the biggest fans of Orlando, but I think the team you've assembled here is championship quality.

Pavano > Lowe

Arroyo > ANY 5th starter in baseball

A full year of Trot Nixon > Last year's RF situation

The only spot where I see a downgrade is Orlando to that shortstop platoon, but Pokey's D and someone like Larkin/Relaford to share time with would be a good enough # 9 hitter.

The 2004 Yankees were devastating offensively.

The 2004 Cardinals were devastating offensively.

The 2004 Red Sox were very good offensively, and had GREAT pitching with Pedro/Schill, and yes, Lowe when it really counted.

This team would be very similar. Not quite as good offensively, but with a good rotation 1-5, and that bullpen, this team will have a real shot at finally winning the AL East.

i've said it time in and time out... we won't hurt losing a bat or two. we've only had the most RS 2 years in a row.

getting better pitchers will make the difference. i'm not sure if we'll pull off pavano if we sign tek. i'm gearing at letting tek go, make sure we sign pavano and save the rest for next seasons singnings.

they are not going to sign wells. it doesn't make sense. the monster will eat him alive. he's a career like 10-10 4.7+era at fenway. it's a ploy to sign pavano imo.

that is a good roster. it would be much smarter for us to not sign renteria and tek at the price they are asking. save that 18+ mill for future free agent pitchers. ie sheets. how long do you think schilling can be very good for? and how long can wells be decent for?
